Septic tank, drains, storm drains (all about drain designs and issues).

Triplex ang design ng house namin. Each unit has a different owner. Pansin ko iyong gitnang unit tumatagas iyong storm drain nila (sealed with cement). I also noticed that the three houses have one septic tank.

If it followed the revised standards for septic tanks which is Three chambers instead of the old two chambers pwede yan. But I think the rain water from the down spouts should have gone straight to the sewer instead to the septic tank.

storm drains are not supposed to pass through your septic tanks, they're supposed to be tapped directly to the street drain.

I saw sa news last night about a local inventor tapping rain water from his roof led to a tank and filter para maging drinking water. Sa Ch.7 ko napanood. You could probably Email them to ask more information about it for your idea.

Follow up question... Iyong storm drainage ba sino ba talaga technically ang may responsibility nun? Storm drainage eto iyong drainage (sealed with a squared cement) na nasa labas ng gate ng bahay.

When it exits your property it should be the responsibility of the LGU or if you're in a subdivision consult your association agreements.

Property line means the boundaries of your lot.

How do you check if the drains / stormdrains go through the septic tank? Can you base it on the age of the design? My aunt's house is 40 years old already and she had a roof drain diverted to a floor drain. During a strong rainstorm water came from under the tiles and we suspect it was overloading the septic tank.

What are the effects of excessive rainwater overloading the septic tank?

Paps as long na may dual or triple chamber ang septic tank ok lang punuin ng rainwater as long as the outlet is connected to the sewage system. Kung hindi konektado sa sa sewage system duon lang aapaw yan or the sewage system outside ef apaw na rin due to floods saka lang mag back up yan.

most strom drain design are not connected to the septic tank. actual some strom drain systems (area and catch basins) are not interconnected. it is designed to be effective and spill at the fastest rate even with multiple outflows.

water seeping under the tile is probably caused by the ground water pressure. your aunt's area must be over saturate and the ground water pressure often pushes up against the flooring.

septic tanks often encounter back flows due to flooding because it does not have a check valve. that is why it is not advisable to connect the strom drain system to the septic tank. the toilet fixtures will not flush would be the worse side effect.

But the ordinary floor drains in the cr and in the laundry area, are they normally connected to the septic tank? Am I right to assume na dapat only the toilet fixtures should connect to the septic tank?

  15. #15
all floor drains are connected to the septic tank and these are susceptible to back flow.

Not necessarily Paps. You can have these "greywater" directed to your waste water line directly to the main or public sewage system. You can also connect to your downspout catch basins as long as it will lead to the sewer main or gutter. As long as you have a septic that have an overflow that also lead to sewer system then it's also ok to connect the drains to your septic tank.

greywater ... to a rainwater tank if possible
