The reinvention of the TV goddess

Kristine Hermosa's journey in showbiz has been one heck of a roller coaster ride: one moment she's at the peak of her career, the next minute she's out of the limelight. And now she's back again, making a buzz with her projects and endorsements.

But really, it's not that hard to understand how Kristine, despite being away from the limelight, can come back and shine in such a fickle industry. She has a certain je ne sais quoi about her that today's aspiring artists are still working hard to achieve. And we witnessed that the moment she walked into Doc Marlon's studio with a warm smile on her face despite feeling under the weather on the day of our shoot. Before we knew it, we were already wrapping up. Yes, ladies and gents, she is that effortlessly beautiful.

Now that you're done with Dahil May Isang Ikaw, what's keeping you busy these days?

I'm still enjoying my rest. I'm not thinking of anything yet, except maybe to go on some trips. Siguro in May I'll start doing another project. Wala pa lang concrete plans.

We're sure your fans are looking forward to that. You were away from the spotlight for awhile. What made you decide to come back?

It wasn't naman a decision. Ako 'yung artista who doesn't really plan for my career. Kung ano 'yung ibigay sa akin, then that's fine with me. Hindi ako 'yung parang naghahabol for the limelight and stuff. I believe that if it's for you, then it's for you. You don't have to chase after it.
Well said. You've had a chance to work with a lot of actors and actresses.

Who else do you want to work with?

Marami pa. Walang certain person pero alam ko marami pa akong gustong makatrabaho na mga veteran actors and actresses.
How do you balance your work and personal life?

When it's time for work, I work. Kahit siguro for six months na dire-diretso I can do that. But in between I have to rest because I won't be able to function well. So 'pag sobra na and I feel na parang pumapangit na ako (laughs), feeling ko na parang bloated na ako because of all the puyat, then that's the time to rest and unwind.

Care to share how you manage to stay fit?

I do cardio exercises. I try my best to increase 'yung time for my cardio. Kasi I eat anything. I love eating. So para ma-enjoy ko 'yung mga food na gusto kong kainin, I really have to go to the gym and work out.
When you're not at the gym and you don't have a taping or shoot, what do you do?

I fix my stuff at home. I love fixing my things! Minsan nagbabawas ako ng clothes. I check kung ano 'yung pwede ko ma-alter para sa ibang designs. I invite my friends to come over or I go to the salon. Normal, typical girl thing. I watch movies or I go online.

What sites do you go to when you're online?

Aside from Facebook, mga games. Like GameHouse, Big Fish, mga ganun.. (laughs). I also frequent YouTube.. I love watching those funny viral videos, 'yung mga Japanese, Chinese, Korean videos. Sometimes kapag hindi ko napapanood 'yung sarili ko tapos may magsabi, that's the only time I check YouTube for myself. When I'm online, I also go on YM and check my email. I also look for clothes design on the Web. I love mixing and matching designs and styles kasi.

Wow! You must spend a lot of time cybersurfing! Which among your gadgets can't you leave home without?

A waterproof Panasonic camera. Actually, kahit 'yung phone ko water-resistant. I own a Nokia 3720 classic. Nagtatanong sila bakit daw ito ang phone ko. Some people think that I have an elegant phone, 'yung mga uso ngayon. But I like this because it's great for outdoor use. Hindi ka masyadong kabado na baka masira.

We totally agree! What other gadgets do you own?

I have an Asus Eee PC. I like netbooks because they're very portable. I also own a Canon DSLR and a Panasonic Lumix camera.
If you could only bring one of these every day-a DSLR, point-and-shoot or a camcorder-what would you pick?

A point-and-shoot. Pero siyempre at times kailangan mo rin ng DSLR or camcorder. Although mas madalas ko nagagamit ang stills kaysa videos.

If you were to measure your techie-ness on a scale of 1 to 10, how high would you be?

9!

That's high!

Oo kasi interested talaga ako. Although I don't know everything about computers, I love making kalikot. Say, for example with cameras. Kunwari may magpapa-picture sa akin at ayaw gumana ng flash ng camera niya, papakialaman ko tapos ako ang magse-set! (laughs). With computers naman, mahilig akong magtanong sa mga nag-aayos ng laptop ko. "Kuya bakit ganito? Bakit ganyan?" Tinuturuan nila ako tapos the next time gagawin ko mag-isa. I love playing The Sims 3 kaya hindi pwede na hindi nag-work ang Sims sa computer ko.

Tech goddess, huh? (Laughs) Are you the type of person who likes watching movies at home or do you prefer going to the cinema?

Given a choice gusto ko talaga sa bahay kasi mas relaxed. Pero kung marami kami ng mga friends ko, we go out.

What type of movies do you like?

I love Nicole Kidman movies. I'm a big fan! I also watch romantic comedies, suspense with a bit of action, mga Angelina Jolie kind of movies. And I love fairy tales-Snow White, Cinderella, 'yung mga classic Disney movies.

What about music?

Jazz music, mga pang-beach para pang chill lang. I also listen to classic love songs, mga Doris Day....

And you listen to these using what?

My iPod. Kasi parang ayaw ko naman magdala ng CD player! (laughs).

Hahaha! What technology of the past do you wish would make a comeback?

Gusto ko 'yung mga _lm cameras. Iba 'yung feeling kapag film. 'Yung tipong pag pina-print mo masu-surprise ka kung maganda o pangit. We have it easy now kasi with digital cameras.

What car do you drive?

I have a Kia Carens. I just changed it from a Hyundai Santa Fe.

Any dream car you're saving up for?

Oh, yes! A Rubicon Jeep!
