Peter Hernandez (born October 8, 1986, better known by his stage name Bruno Mars, is an American singer-songwriter and music producer. He is well known for lending his vocals and co-writing the hooks for the songs "Nothin' on You" by B.o.B, and "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy. He also co-wrote the international hits "Right Round" by Flo Rida and "Wavin' Flag" by K'naan.

Peter Hernandez was born and raised in Hawaii by parents Peter Hernandez and Bernadette "Bernie" of Puerto Rican and Filipino descent. Hernandez was one of 6 children, (brother Eric and sisters Jaime "Kailani", Tiara, Tahiti and Presley). He came from a musical family giving him a diverse mix of reggae, rock, hip hop, and R&B.From a young age, he was impersonating and performing songs by influential artists such as Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley. In 1990 Hernandez was featured in MidWeek magazine as "Little Elvis". He played Little Elvis in the movie Honeymoon in Vegas in 1992. He attended President Theodore Roosevelt High School, graduating in 2003 at age 17, and shortly after moved to Los Angeles to pursue a musical career. His first musical appearance as a singer was in Far*East Movement's second studio album Animal, featured on the track "3D", produced by The Stereotypes.

Before becoming a successful solo artist, he was an acknowledged music producer, penning songs for the likes of Flo Rida, Alexandra Burke, Travis McCoy, Adam Levine, Brandy, Sean Kingston and he also co-wrote the Sugababes' hit song "Get Sexy" and provided backing vocals on their album Sweet 7. He reached prominence as a solo artist after not only writing, but featuring on "Nothin' on You" by B.o.B and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire". He said of them, "I think those songs weren't meant to be full-sung songs. If I'd sung all of "Nothin' on You", it might've sounded like some '90s R&B." It was soon announced after this success that Mars would be releasing his debut EP, titled It's Better If You Don't Understand on May 11, 2010. Although Mars has been referenced as "soft" because of his light, angelic, falsetto voice, his friend says "What people don't know is there's a darker underbelly to Bruno Mars,". Mars himself says " I blame that on me singing to girls back in high school..."

Mars' debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, will be released on October 5, 2010.The lead single, "Just the Way You Are", was released on July 19, 2010, and has so far peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. Other confirmed tracks on the record include "Marry You" and "Grenades".He will perform at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards on September 12, 2010. The album cover was officially released on August 30, 2010.He will open for Maroon 5 on the fall leg of the Hands All Over Tour starting October 6, 2010. Mars will also co-headline with Travie McCoy an a European tour starting October 18, 2010.

I really liked his voice ever since I first heard Nothin' On You by B.o.B. and I didn't know that he's half-Pinoy so I was really surprised when someone told me recently that he is. Nice!

1st time to hear that he's Pinoy. Does he acknowledge that in his interviews? I'm surprised that Filipino DJs don't mention it whenever they play his songs.

^^ I don't think it matters to him. Why should it? He's Hawaiian. That's probably all there is to know during interviews.

Absolutely...I find it rather pathetic that we Pinoys should claim him as our own even if he hasn't said anything in public about his so-called "Filipino" heritage.

Did you think Mutya Buena went forward about being half-Pinay during her stint with the Sugababes?? Nuh-uh. Ditto with The Saturdays' Vanessa White. Yet we continue claiming them as "our own"

    Puh-leez.
