    Hi. Welcome to PinoyNursing Sub-Forum.

I think New York, New Mexico, Oregon will issue a license even if you don't have a SSN. My initial license was in Oregon and they just had me sign an affidavit stating that I will provide them my SSN as soon as I have one.

Majority of the states require at least 1 service from CGFNS, CES being the most utilized. And that process will take an average of 4 months after you submitted them the whole document.

I don't know the answer to your question. However, here are the links to the Boards of Nursing for each state mentioned in this thread...plus Texas. I hope it helps.

Well, normally the answer is yes because technically you are licensed in one state and will just endorse/transfer your license to another state. I don't know how states do it but I guess it's somewhat like a mutual agreement between states to recognize other state's license.

BUT, Each state had their own rules regarding nursing registration. Being licensed in one state doesn't automatically qualify you to be licensed in another. California, in particular, has its own evaluation scheme. They want your OR/DR cases to match the dates of your Surgical and Maternal nursing lectures. Example, your MCH lectures were done May 2011, then your DR cases should be at least close to this date.

Also, I think they want Filipino graduates to complete certain lecture hours on some nursing concepts. (I don't know if Psyche or OB or what.) But the thing is they don't have such individual programs in California. I personally know someone who opted to just take the whole nursing program in California just so she can be licensed. She's an immigrant, though.

How do you know retrogression will be over. Only the US COngress can end it and they have no appetite for immigration as the economy is still shaky.

true. most of my friends who failed nclex had a hard time to re apply again for the exam because the California Board of Nursing has a new rules for foreign graduates. I believe they have to complete certain hours for Maternal and Child Health and Psych. That's why most of them opted to take the LVN exam.

Ang hirap lang, most of the hospitals ay need pa din ng 1-2 yrs acute care experience para makapasok. Although ang pa dami din demand ng mga RNs lalu na dito sa California. Patience is a virtue until makapasok din ako sa hospital.

International Students And Social Security Numbers
SSA Publication No. 05-10181, September 2011

Are you temporarily in the United States to attend a college, language, vocational or nonacademic school with a nonimmigrant F-1, M-1 or J-1 student classification? Your school may ask you for your Social Security number. Some colleges and schools use Social Security numbers as student identification numbers. If you do not have a Social Security number, the college or school should be able to give you another identification number.

Social Security numbers generally are assigned to people who are authorized to work in the United States. Social Security numbers are used to report your wages to the government and to determine eligibility for Social Security benefits. Social Security will not assign you a number just to enroll in a college or school.
