Guadalupe Shrine in Tablon – the new Holy Week destination in Cagayan de Oro

April 13, 2009 at 12:48 pm · Filed under Events and tagged: Cagayan de Oro, Guadalupe Shrine, Holy Week, Tablon

The Guadalupe Shrine in Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City has become a major destination this year during the holy week. The number of devotees significantly increased this year, thanks to the word of mouth among Cagayanons.

The “Panaad” at Guadalupe involves crossing the Umalag River 9 times with the Chapel where the “Birhen sa Guadalupe” is enshrined as the end point. Because it’s summer, river water was just ankle or knee deep. The trek is enjoyable because they’re done under the shade of trees. More like an adventure to most of the “trekkers”, the cold waters of the river tends to soothe the bodies from the scorching heat of the sun.

Most of the crowd are in the teens to not so old as depicted in the photos. But young and old have found some ways to do the “panaad”. With expanded promotion, Guadalupe will surely be not just a Holy Week destination but a tourist haven in the years to come.

Dahilayan Adventure Park is in Bukidnon...you need to allocate about 1-1.5 hours travel from CDO (including some delays if any). You can't do WWR and Dahilayan in 1 day if you arrived at 10AM. Rafting is at least 3 hours river run plus orientation, etc.

Maybe if you arrive in CDO at 7AM then you can do WWR and then goto Dahilayan in the afternoon.

Sana when LIA commences operation, it will put in place is its own airport taxi system with fixed rates for every specific destination. Inis din ako sa mga rip-off taxi drivers na yan.
