[QUOTE=Asmodai;47685562]Problema ko rin ang marriage. My family is uber-religious, so my lack of belief is hidden from them. If I ever have a family, I know I'll be pressured to raise my kids to be Catholic and say all that "papa Jesus loves you" stuff just to please my parents, and I can't find it in myself to do that. [QUOTE=meicon]

OMG. Sobrang pareho tayo. At my age (turning 21 this year), I still get scolded when I don't attend mass and when I don't join them in praying the rosary. Can't tell them outright that I'm no longer practicing any religion, Roman Catholicism for that matter. As religious people usually are, my family is a narrow-minded bunch. They wouldn't understand me for sure. I would just be subject to ridicule.

Exactly. It's also why I keep mum when they discuss religion and the like at the dinner table. I think my 'rents would sooner have a gay son than one that's a heathen, LOL Probably try to exorcise me too

Question, guys. Naiisip n'yo ba yung future n'yo?

Tapos kung papalakihin sila in an agnostic way, di kaya sila i-condemn sa school?

Pati sa career, kino-consider ko yan eh. I recently graduated and I'm still not sure which path to take. I'm thinking that if I build my career in the foreign service, I will just stay single and I don't mind being one for the rest of my life. I don't want to raise my kids here because of the predominance of religion. However, what if someone who's amazing comes along? Should I drag him out of the country and convince him to build our lives abroad?
Ako, naisip ko narin 'yan. Plan ko is mag-settle nalang abroad after makaipon.
I mean, officially, wala kang religion (dito sa Philippines). Kasi kung magiging "catholic" or what not ka parin by name, hindi ba magiging kumplikado 'yun if ever magka-anak ka nga?

LOL.
Tska nga pala, panao kayo nagsurvive sa TRED? Hindi ko pa siya nagiging subject pero any tips or pieces of advice on how to cruise along the subject? Pati pala on how to deal with professors.

I guess I'm pretty lucky that my immediate family isn't all that religious. They're still believers, I think, but we don't go to church or pray or anything like that.

I say just be yourself in TRED. I never hid my non-belief from any of my professors. In fact, I probably mentioned it in every written activity assigned to us. It's not like they can fail you if you don't believe.

As for the possibility of a meet-up, I'm totally up for it.

How old are you? When are you planning to "come out" re your lack of religion? Speaking of coming out, I think gays should shun religion. It's non-sense to be part of something that condemns your lifestyle.

Anyway, coming out is my problem also.

Puro parinigan and stuff. sensitive issue pa man din ito.

Nag-sesearch ako ng mga libro sa lib na about non-belief and stuff pero (un)suprisingly, wala akong makita. Saan ba pwedeng makahiram?

RE: meet up, ok lang naman. Pwedeng maging exchange of ideas and stuff.

This reminds me of discrimination in school admissions. Do you remember when Aiai Delas Alas' child was denied of enrollment because he/she was an illegitimate child? How much more if the child was not baptized? Baka gumulong na yung mga madre. "This child will go to hell"!

Grievance na yun! Haha. Haha. Anyway, opinion ka lang yan.

Makibasa ka na lang sa Power Books. The God Delusion ni Richard Dawkins malupit.

Why not give the professor what he/she wants to hear?

Sayang. Bakit ngayon lang nagkaroon ng ganito? ID106 ako eh.

'Yun nga. Ibang usapan na kung personalan. LOL.

I already have The God Delusion.

I honestly don't know. I might just end up giving my parents heart attacks if I did.

Haven't read the God Delusion yet. I'm a fan of Michael Shermer (the founding editor of Skeptic magazine) too.

    and 106 din ako.

Loko ka ah! Anong years ago? 2009 lang ako nag-grad. LOL

I think girls are less inclined to be non-believers.

The God Delusion is great. Does Shermer write books?

Marami na rin akong napanood na documentaries: The Root of All Evil, The Enemies of Reason, The Genius of Charles Darwin, lahat yan si Richard Dawkins. Maganda rin yung Religulous ni Bill Maher. Nakakatawa.

  15. #35
^ Yeah. "Why People Believe Weird Things" and "The Science of Good and Evil" are examples.

He has a youtube channel too, you can check it out. He concentrates less on God though and tends to talk of skepticism in general, such as with the pseudosciences

Sadly, 'di ko pa siya nabubuklat ngayon because of school works. Sana magkaroon na ako ng free time (w/c I doubt) -_-

I have yet to watch the root of all evil.
Maganda rin 'yung The Blind Watchmaker and 'yung A Brief History of Disbelief. Nagkaroon ako ng konting idea about the history and development of non-belief.

Hindi naman macla-classify as frat or what not ang group if ever?

BTW, I saw Christopher Hitchens in CNN kanina. He has cancer pala and his hair is already gone (probably from chemo). He said na if ever may lumabas na kwento na he retracted in his deathbed, don't believe it.
