NADINE SAMONTE (born Nadine Burgos Eidloth on March 2, 1988 in Rosenheim, Bavaria, Germany) is a Filipina actress.A pretty daughter of a German father and Filipina mother. She is an avenger from the first season of StarStruck. She is lasted up to the Final 6 with Dion Ignacio, Yasmien Kurdi, Rainier Castillo, Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado. Nadine and Dion were the last contestants to be eliminated and the last avengers for the said season of Starstruck.

StarSruck finalist Nadine Samonte did not quite reach the prize, but her charisma makes her a certified fan magnet. Now, this German-Filipina knockout prepares to show off her winning form.


Star Quality

She lost the StarStruck title by the skin of her teeth but Nadine Samonte is undaunted. True, she was a tad disappointed -- after all, Nadine was so close to it that triumph seemed a sigh away -- but her enthusiasm did not, in any way, lose its sparkle.

Nadine's positive attitude found affirmation in teen celeb Maxine Magalona's earnest declaration when they met during this cover shoot at the studio of Dominique James: "I wanted you to win!"

A lot of televiewers probably share Maxine's sentiment. It is readily apparent that the StarStruck finalist has the guts and the goods to make it big in the business. Watch her flash that toothy smile. It's a smile that reveals a happy soul behind the visually appealing package.

Nadine has promise in the acting department, too. Which perhaps explains why, despite being relegated to the status of an "Avenger" in the competition, Nadine is being given the exposure she rightly deserves.

For Nadine, showbiz means an opportunity to showcase her talent and earn badly needed money. Weighing down on this 15-year-old girl's shoulders is the very adult responsibility of helping support her family. Could it be why she seems to have grown older than her years?

Despite the distracting sense of maturity in the way she talks about life, Nadine is still very much the teenager that she is, indulging in the same stuff most young people do -- malling, partying, hanging out with friends. But it is her competitive spirit that spells all the difference -- making her a real winner at the end of the day.


Claim to Fame

Even before StarStruck came to be, Nadine was a model, flashing that winsome smile for many a print ad and TVC since she was 13 years old.

And we're talking about major products, too! Nadine has endorsed a leading fruit juice product, flipped her lustrous tresses for a popular shampoo/conditioner, toted the latest cell phone units, and whispered in Richard Gutierrez's ear for a sanitary pad TVC.

Nadine's wide modeling exposure would naturally attract the attention of talent scouts who caused her first formal foray into showbiz as a member of Star Circle Batch 10. But after a series of TV guest appearances, Nadine felt that her career was getting nowhere. Hence, her search for greener pastures earnestly began after she was released from her contract.

Then GMA-7's StarStruck came along. Joining it brought her back to square one. "Meaningful friends questioned my move to join StarStruck," Nadine relates. "They told me, 'Bakit ka sumali dyan? Mataas ka na, bigla ka na namang bumaba.' But all I said was, 'Okay lang, para maiba naman. Sayang yung opportunity.'"

Indeed, the StarStruck mania has made Nadine more famous that her past TV appearances or modeling stints ever did. Now, eager fans swarm around her whenever she goes to the mall. Even her kid sister gets to be asked for autographs!

Life couldn't be better at this point, Nadine happily claims. The only blight in the horizon is her dad, who -- till this day -- is totally against her showbiz aspirations. Had he even known that she had joined StarStruck -- he's currently based in his native country, Germany -- Nadine says he would have barred her from pursuing it.

"My parents are already separated, and my dad went back to Germany kasi nga hindi siya natutuwa sa pagmomodel ko sa TV commercials," she relates. "Ewan ko, ayaw niya talaga eh. We even got into a fight about it so he flew back to Germany. And when he asked me if I wanted to go back with him, I said no."

Fortunately, Nadine has all the support she needs from her mom, who keeps her company at all her showbiz engagements.

Here and Now

She might not have made it to the Final Four, but Nadine has struck gold where here showbiz career is concerned. She's presently busy with tapings for the new season of the teen series Love to Love, which will see her paired off with fellow StarStruck finalist Dion Ignacio.

Some TV guestings and provincial shows are also on Nadine's current agenda, not to mention her stint as image model for Gibi shoes.

It is such that Nadine has to grapple with her studies at Angelicum Academy in Biñan Laguna, where she is currently on her third year in high school. "I'm afraid I can't catch up with all the academic requirements,"she says. "Minsan when I'm asleep, minumulto ako ng test papers ko. Two months na ako absent eh. And with all these showbiz projects that I now have, mahirap humabol!"

Still, Nadine can't be faulted for grabbing at an opportunity while it's there. So even as she studies chemical formulas and geometrical configurations., she's likewise bent on memorizing her TV scripts -- all the while hoping that she can also get some sleep.

Moment of Glory

To Nadine's surprise, legions of applicants trooped to GMA-7's new reality TV show. There were initially over 1,000 teenagers who signed up for the competition, and Nadine didn't think she stood a chance.

Yet she did make it through the auditions, even if she couldn't dance or sing much. When she first tried out, in fact, she had come straight from a TVC shoot. "Wala akong makeup, nakatali lang ang hair ko, tapos yung outfit ko pambahay," she laughs in fond recollection. "I just told myself na kung para sa akin ito, papasa ako."

Nadine was extremely delighted that she made it all the way to the final six. And ironically, it was StarStruck that gave her the priceless opportunity to hone her acting skills through the workshops they were made to attend.
