Just Finished: Transformers: War for Cybertron (PC)

Bah weep granah weep ni ni bong

For Transformers fans of any continuity, especially those who grew up watching G1, check this game out. Some may say that this is just a Gears of War clone without the cover mechanics, but it's unique and definitive as a Transformers game. Hasbro stated that this is canon and a sort of reboot of G1 with the new continuity, Transfomers: Prime. So, in terms of story, have fun discovering/ re-discovering Starscream's origins, how Optimus and Bumblebee met, how Optimus became a Prime, and many more.

Combat is fast-paced and the transformations are cool and sleek and are integral to gameplay. The transformation sequences have the G1-feel mixed with the complexity of the live-action movies. I couldn't help laughing at times at the banter among the characters (esp. Breakdown and Warpath), even during intense firefights.

Consider the following:

Megatron: Steady yourself, coward. I marked this area for Dark Energon bombers.
Breakdown: ARE YOU INSANE?!? I mean... yes, brilliant, Megatron!

Or this one among the Seekers

Starscream: The Autobots must have booby trapped this room! Fools!
Skywarp: Wait, are you calling us fools or the Autobots fools? 'Cause I'm not getting the sense that you respect me.
Starcream: Silence! Fool.
Skywarp: That's exactly what I'm talking about!

Speaking of banter, Peter Cullen reprises his role as the voice of Optimus Prime. There are other voice talents that are familiar. There are also a lot of homages and references to the franchise as a whole so this game really ups the nostalgia factor.

Currently Playing: None. I see my love affair with SC2 ending. I may revert back to Napoleon: Total War or Forged Alliance.
