The pilot is essentially the same as the first episode, "A Study in Pink", but it was only 1 hour, as the creators were expecting to be greenlit a standard 6 episodes x 1 hour each. The BBC instead wanted them to do 3 eps x 90 minutes each, so they reshot the pilot into the version we have now.

What's the difference? No deleted scenes or they added a couple so we can have 90 minutes?

Is there any chance that they go back to standard 6 episodes and not just 3 eps per season?

Great season premiere.
A scandal in belgravia was the first sherlock holmes story i've read but this is way better. Kudos to the writer.

I finally watched this one (while I was out) and what can I say... WOW.

I gotta agree now with CARAMBA, this deserve more than three episodes.

stranded: I haven't seen the pilot myself, but from what I've read:

- Sherlock seems to be more personable.
- Watson isn't as fleshed out here as in the final version.
- Since the pilot was filmed by a different director, it has a different feel to it, along the lines of it's not as flashy and intriguing, like "It's good, not bad," instead of "Whoa, that's amazing!"
- The story feels tighter, since it's just 60 minutes.
- The most significant change I guess is [spoiler start]the showdown with Sherlock and the cabbie; he gets drugged, and the pill game happens in his flat.[spoiler end]

I can't seem to find info on why the BBC commissioned it as 3 x 90 mins eps. Sana nga mag-6 x 1 hour na lang din sila, the more eps the merrier.
