Not sure if there's already an existing thread for this. But The Avengers movie is coming out on May 4, 2012. It will be directed by Joss Whedon.

At least merong Thor at Capt. America to tide us over. Honestly I have more hopes for Thor than CA. Parang mas magaling ang mga artista, and I love Kenneth Branagh. They seem to be on shaky footing with CA.

Director Joss Whedon Talks About Casting Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner in The Avengers

Here’s what he had to say about casting Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye:
The thing about Hawkeye, he’s got his bows and arrows, you need somebody who’s very very down to earth, who’s very grounded, and who’s going to be the kind of guy who, you see him, and you understand why he likes to be far away from things and then shoot at them.

And with respect to Mark Ruffalo coming on board to play the Hulk:

Mark was my first and only choice for Bruce Banner. I’m stunned that we landed that, just stunned. He has what I remember loving about the show, that quality of, you just look at him and you go through it with him, he invites you in in a way that [no] other performer has since Bill Bixby. He is a guy who’s been beaten up by life, but not defined by that. That’s what I want from Bruce Banner, is a guy who’s still getting it done, even though he has his problem.

Mark Ruffalo Discusses Playing The Hulk in The Avengers

Entertainment Weekly recently talked with Mark Ruffalo about playing the Hulk in Marvel Studios highly anticipated movie version of The Avengers.

In talking with Ruffalo they discussed what it is like inhabiting such an iconic character as Bruce Banner.

He's a guy struggling with two sides of himself - the dark and the light - and everything he does in his life is filtered through issues of control. I grew up on the Bill Bixby TV series, which I thought was a really nuanced and real human way to look at The Hulk. I like that the part has those qualities.


Another topic of discussion was Ruffalo picking up the role after Marvel and Edward Norton had a clandestine falling out.

I'm a friend of Ed's, and yeah, that wasn't a great way for all that to go down. But the way I see it is that Ed has bequeathed this part to me. I look at it as my generation's Hamlet.

The Avengers Movie: No Wasp and Scarlet

"It is true that the movie is only going to have one female avenger", director Joss Whedon told The Sunday Herald-Sun (via Moviehole). "But (Black Widow) will not be the only female character [in the film]."

Whedon didn't elaborate on who the other women in the film will be, but rumors spread recently that Alice Eve (who bowed out of playing Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class) may be up for a villain role in The Avengers now instead .

"The role, albeit minor, would serve to tie together another of their properties; since the villainous character is most notably featured in Thor comic story lines," according to Comic Book Movie. "Though the role has yet to be given a name, fans of the character should undoubtedly be able to pinpoint who it is."
