Maganda and murang bilhin for a first car

Ask ko lang ano ba maganda at murang bilhin for a first car?

Thanks!

my lancer 77 el can go 13 km/l hway driving and 9-10 km/l city driving
    easy and low maintainance

Yung 1990 or up model po sana. Saka marami kasing pataas na daan sa amin so mahirap yan.

Sentra LEC PS 1999 model. Carb naman yan so madali ang maintenance... + mas modelo pa.

Sinearch ko mukha ngang ok. Btw, what do you mean na carb sya?

At that price range, your car choices are quite old.

If you're new to cars, best you bring with you a trusted and experienced auto mechanic when you inspect and test drive a prospective buy. The auto mechanic can determine if the prospect is a good buy or will become a money pit for you.

    My two cents.

Lancer - Singkit and some itlog
Corolla - small body and some big body
    Sentra - series 3

medyo nakaka duda kung makakakuha ka ng mga mas bagong models sa ganyang price range...better get an older (early 90s) but properly maintained car, than a late 90s car na mukhang best buy.

    bring a mechanic with you.

if your new to cars...paturo ka na lang sa mechanic pag may problem...if you're also new to driving...mas magandang 2nd hand nga kunin mo...kumbaga testing car mo...kahit magasgasan ka sa pag park di ka manghihinayang masyado

carburetor at di fuel injected engine, meaning wala syang computer box, walang mamahaling sensors na maaring masira.

    @TS..

at that price range and you're looking for a second-hand car.. nakopo!

you also have to take into consideration daily cost of fuel and future maintenance spending for the car [patay!]

this may be OT but since baguhan ka pa naman sa kotse, why not consider an alternative form of transport?

but that's just me.. hehehe. nakapagdecide ka naman na sa kotse eh. better to get a new car.. ipon ka pa ng kaunti.

2 years ago nabenta ko yung 93 Sentra SE Saloon ko ng 100K, tires @ 80% pa, wala kalampag dahil bago repair lahat pag ilalim, radiator di nagbabawas ng tubig, zero oil leak, 130K mileage, power windors, lock, side mirrors antenna, all working. No idling issues since marunong na ko maglinis ng mga sensors, so every 3 mos linis sya. had to sell dahil nakabili ako ng mas modelo, at iisa lang ang garahe ko. Anyways, point ko lang, at 100K possible na makabili ka pa ng matinong kotse... but syempre magreserve ka palagi ng 10K for pontential repairs, at pamember ka sa AAP or Wheelers in case kelangan i-tow.

TS, before you consider buying a car... tanungin mo sarili mo muna... kaya ko ba mag pa gas ng 500 every two days (depende kung daily ride mo ito and kung malayo ang mga pupuntahan mo, work or school to your home)? meron ba akong spare na pera pag nasira yung 2nd hand na kotse? Think through the pros and cons... kung mas maraming cons... wag na... saka na lang.... ipon na lang muna.

If you can spare 7-8k pesos monthly, then try to consider buying a brand new car. 100k pwede na down for a brand new car, then 7-8k mo. ammortization for 5 years... Kung kaya... and that's just me.

    Hi, thanks sa tips.

Like this post, I'm sure marami pa dyan well maintained na car for my budget.

Me mga nagsa suggest kasi Lancer singkit, itlog or Toyota Big Body.

Daily travel expense ko kasi is around 210. I used to have an officemate na malapit sa house namin na may honda esi na nakakasabay ko sa pagpasok sa office. Ang daily gas consumption nya is nasa 180 and tipid pa kami ng more than 2 hours sa travel time.

Madugo lang kasi ang monthly nila for 5 years for a first car eh.

Unfortunately you can't have your cake and eat it too. You'll find cars at 120K or less however these will be hard pressed to give you a consistent 10-11km/l in the city come hell and high water (in traffic terms); cars that can do such are the likes of the Vios, Altis, Jazz, City, Picanto, Focus diesel, etc.

In that budget range though a 1990 Corolla GL/XE, 1993 to 1995 Corolla XE, 1993 to 1995 Sentra B13, or Lancer EL will fit the bill. Take note though that you will be spending another 20K to 50K for repairs and maintenance to make sure the car you have will be reliable (change all fluids, filters, fix suspension, brakes, a/c system, cooling system, carb overhaul, etc.).

Case in point: We have 1993 Sentra 1.4 JX which was left with me by an aunt who upgraded and still didn't sell her old car (first owned, all original including the paint). Its in generally good condition and was parked for over a year without use but i still spent around 13K to get it running reliably again (to my tastes). We use it sparingly though since no matter what we do with the engine and carb tuning, it still wont get better than 8km/L at the most in the city (versus the 10-11km/l i get with my daily drive) so its basically left to runabout duties and pampalengke.
