kapag hinde tama ang interlocking (for example niremedyohan lang) chances are mechanicaly weak at saka mawawala ang "homogenousness" making it weak and suceptible sa water drip.

  2. #22

Kailangan umapak ka sa may mga pamakuan. Avoid the in in-betweens.

    Sustainable Built: A Green Roof

Plants have been used on roofs for thousands of years, from sod roofs in Europe to the hanging gardens of Babylon. But in the last 50 years this practice has evolved into what are now called green roofs, living roofs or eco-roofs. Green roofs are those that have been planted with specific vegetation using a well-researched sustainable design methodology. They are an exciting new development in the sustainable building movement, and are gaining in popularity across the world.

    Types of Green Roof
While there is no standard classification for green roofs, they can be divided into two basic types:

    * Intensive Living Roofs - these incorporate plants from between 1 to 15 feet high, including shrubs and trees. They require deep levels of soil to support them and a weight-loading roof. They support a high level of plant and wildlife diversity, but require ongoing maintenance and extensive irrigation. They are not suitable for most domestic buildings.

    * Extensive Living Roofs - these incorporate low-lying plants from 2 to 6 inches high. They require only a few inches of soil to support them, and only need a low weight-loading roof. They are low maintenance and can be used for any kind of roof, including sheds, garages, houses, balconies, extensions and outhouses, and also commercial buildings.

Both types of green roofs can be used for flat or pitched roof construction. Flat roofs are the most common and the easiest to establish and maintain, but green roofs can have a pitch up to 45 degrees. With sloped roofs, there are design issues affecting drainage and soil loss that need to be carefully considered.

    Benefits of Green Roofs
There are a number of social, economic and environmental benefits to green roofs, including:

    * Increasing home energy efficiency - cooling in summer, insulation in winter
    * Filtering and cleaning toxins from both air and water
    * Reducing carbon dioxide emissions
    * Retaining rainwater before it evaporates, reducing the likelihood of flooding
    * Reducing urban temperatures and associated smog
    * Insulating against sound and noise
    * Preserving and enhancing biodiversity
    * Providing aesthetic appeal and 'green space' recreational opportunities
    * Using recycled materials like aggregates and plastic sheets

LOLOL.

Here in Philippine soil, one of the brands of Green Wall and Green Roof offered here is named Elmich.

The Elmich Green Roof is made of 100% recycled plastic, and it can be partially or totally covered by plants. So what are the advantages of a plant-covered roof? That means less rain water runoff, less energy consumption due to cooler insides of the house, less air pollution since plants breathe in carbon and air particles, less noise as plants provide a sound buffer, and less harmful effects from UV rays.

  11. #31
Meanwhile, the Elmich Green Wall is similar to the Green Roof in the sense that you can also put plants in them. It has grids where you can plant herbs or vegetables in between, so it also offers the same advantages like better house insulation, noise reduction, and sunlight absorption.

You can contact the Philippine distributor of Elmich to know more about their Green Roof and Green Wall - SuperSonic Manufacturing and look for Ms. Josie Muñoz, Product Manager

Question ulit. iyong bubong kasi namin parang naka shape as a triangle parang ganito: /\. (see figure below and focus on the horizontal line). So kung isaside view iyong bubong parang ganito:

/---------\ Iyong horizontal line paki akyat na lang sa top ng dalawang lines (left and right).

Does that mean, pwedeng pasukan ng tubig iyon?

As far as walls are concern, medyo hit or miss talaga. May makikita kang bahay with a firewall that was plainly plastered but there's no water seepage others are less fortunate. There's several factors that causes this. Sometimes water seeps from the top part of the wall kase yung flashing doesn't goes all the way to the other side of the wall. Minsan naman sa orientation ng bahay yung side ng wall the yun gets the most rainfall or next to another firewall and water gets trapped between two walls. Yung plaster sometimes may crack or bitaw na sa hallow block so may way pumasok ang tubig and with the gap gumagapang sa loob ang tubig. Sometimes the moisture on the interior walls isn't really coming from the outside but condensation or moisture from a poorly ventilated interior.

As preventive measure, Just make sure the flashing are properly installed, You can ad an additive to the cement for the plastering of the wall like a water proofing compound like SAHARA and have the walls painted with cementicious/rubberized elastomeric paints.

we're planning to change our roof kasi tinatapakan ng kapitbahay namin yung yero tsaka pag may tumalon na pusa nagdedent agad.

Steel roofing especially the traditional corrugated type maingay pag malakas ang araw. This is normal, especially when sun hits it and hides behind clouds, heat expands and contracts roof sheets.
A big factor to consider when having a house constructed is to make the roof less complicated, easier to maintain as well. Good paint that I recommend is still Boysen Roofguard, it is durable, easy to use since water based sya and covers a lot. For a 4 gallon it should be more than enough for average sized roof. Bear in mind though that roof should be repainted at least every 5 years. For roof holes the best brand is vulcaseal, tested this already. Resilient to UV damage, slightly flexible and can be painted over. When servicing your roof make sure to step on the framing, as what was mentioned by cyber, yung pamakuan. Stepping otherwise may pull up the nail or screw and this will cause leaks when it rains. You can apply vulcaseal on the nail/ screw heads if this occurs.
I find almost all brands of roofing to be the same in terms of durability, for lack of scientific lab tests we cannot know for sure. Just MAINTAIN your roof by painting this. I see a lot of these already in state of decay because the house owner simply does not want to spend P2,300 for a 4gallon paint and labor - instead opting to buy a better cellphone, car accessory and what not. Prioritize!!! Money spent on your house is an investment, not a loss compared to cars, electronic gadgets. I see alot of houses that are in a state of disrepair, nature is the worst enemy. Clean your gutters of leaves, better to trim trees overhanging your roof.

question po sa mga experts natin dito...

tumutulo kasi yung bubong namin, napa-rain or shine paint na namin ito siguro two years ago, nawala naman tulo. pero this year meron na naman at mukhang mas marami ng holes judging from the mapa sa kisame.

so sabi ng husband ko baka dapat magpalit na talaga ng bubong, and he is thinking of asphalt shingles. nagpunta kami sa Multi-line along edsa to inquire. wala pa kaming proposal so hindi ko pa alam price implications.

pag shingles daw, medyo mahal kesa long span, pero virtually maintenance free kasi di na need i-vulcaseal or things like that every so often. hindi pa daw maingay pag umuulan unlike yero, tsaka since me plywood undersheeting, kahit daw ipatanggal na namin yung kisame for better air circulation sa loob ng bahay.

i'm not an expert. share ko lang experience ko sa shingles. i think mas mahal ang shingles kasi when my house was constructed, long span din ang original agreed roofing. i decided to change it to shingles. my builder asked an additional of around 30 to 40 thousand to the original contract price. may not be that much dahil hindi naman malaki ang canopy ng bubong namin. ang alam ko my builder subcontracted the whole roof thing, or the price of shingles already included installation. hindi lahat ng karpentero alam how to work with shingles.

i decided on shingles for esthetic purpose and more. mas maganda talaga sya. hindi rin sya maingay kung umuulan. kung tama ang installation, wala kang problema sa tulo. it's supposed to be less hot than steel roof. pero feeling ko mainit pa rin when sun is hot. maybe kulang sa vent ang ceiling.
