Claudine’ axed: Claudine Barretto’s self-titled drama anthology series on GMA is facing closure soon, on the second week of August. The culprit: Low ratings.
It seems network has over-estimated Claudine’s pulling power when it launched the barely three-month old program directly up against an established drama series, “Maalaala Mo Kaya.” Note that a few years back, GMA similarly made an effort to topple “MMK” by pitting “Magpakailanman,” which had more or less the same format, on the same timeslot. There were times “Magpakailanman” would win the battle, but the program closed shop after a few years.
Claudine’s show unfortunately has not delivered the goods, so to speak, that during a recent media lunch with entertainment editors, GMA bigwigs, Atty. Felipe Gozon and Gualberto Duavit confirmed the show was ready to face the axe. Duavit said Claudine, a contract artist of the network after having transferred from ABS-CBN, was to be assigned a daily teleserye, which happens to be her forte.
Of course, it also didn’t help that the actress also faced talks of unprofessionalism while doing her first GMA show.
Take note that Claudine scored her biggest TV hits out of nightly dramas, and not on once weekly shows. Claudine will be joined, according to Duavit, by other actors and actresses in a new series currently being planned by the network. It wasn’t known if the transferee actress was going to play a mother role this time.
