    Accountancy as Second Degree

    maraming salamat....

    Hi there,

Pareho kayo ng sitwasyon ng friend ko. Licensed Civil Engr siya for a year now pero she felt na very mismatched siya sa chosed career kaya plan nya to take a second degree which is accounting.

Career-wise, what are your reasons ba why take accounting at this stage of your life?

When I asked my friend sabi nya, if mag-establish sya ng business in the future malaking tulong if she has an accounting degree. Sabi ko baka mistaken siya since hindi talaga entrepreneurial or marketing skills ang focus ng accountancy.

If same kayo ng reason career-wise, I suggest why not MBA na lang, which is a step-forward sa career & business management talaga ang focus.

Nga pala, I'm a CPA for a year now & is planning to take up Law next year. I also invited my Civil Engr friend to join me kaso Law is not her cup of tea raw.

alam ko tinuturo sa MBA more on management

for non-accounting graduate, meron sa MBA program na refresher or intro about accounting...

    good luck to you...

hello. im a 2 degree holder. 1st i finished a 4yr degree in finance, then i wasnt satisfied, i feel like im nobody, no specific profession.

I decided to take accountancy at psba manila and finished it by 2 and half years from accounting 1 to the last. Reviewed at cpar. Now im a cpa working with Manabat Sanagustin

If i hadnt take this path to cpa profession, i might regret it for the rest of my life.

Now, graduate na ako and taking mg review at CPAR. Iba talaga ang exposure din sa pup, nakaka-pressure lalo ng yung evaluation exams. sobrang thankful ako kasi unexpected ang lahat. i thank God for the plans He gave me, sana maging cpa na lang, okay na.

Tingin ko, nasa tao lang yan. Diskartehan lang, baka kasi you see your profession as not as good as accounting. kanya-kanyang perspective yan. baka maya kapag nagtake ka ng accounting, magbago isip mo. think beyond what you see. yun lang payo ko.

kaberns, sino-sino professors mo nung undergrad?

Yes, you need to be full time student in BSA.. hehe.. anu po ba kayo digital.me? mechanical engineer?

    @Chiz,

I'm currently preparing for the UP LAE set this November.

    @ivandulce

Sa PUP-Cavite (Maragondon Campus) ako nag-accountancy. One of my former professors was the notorious Madam O (Leonila Ocampo). I know terror teacher sya sa UP-Main. Ngatog to the bones presence pa lang. Hehe.

Magna Cum Laude siya at JPIA President ng PUP Manila during his time. CPA board topnotcher din ang pagkakaalam ko.

@chiz & ivandulce, do we know each other ba personally? Hehe. PM me.

    Thanks!

If you want some specialized knowledge like Financial Reporting, Taxation or Auditing or wish to be a CPA by profession, I suggest mag-accounting ka nga.

Pero may mga kilala akong planning/ project engineer who benefits most having an MBA degree.

Unless you want to be the bookkeeper of your own business, MBA may be the best for you since you cited scheduling, project costing & cost control as your core areas.

Saka, should we always live by our first choice?

When I was young I really wanted to be a dinosaur when I grow up fortunately I had a change of heart.

Or else I would have to make a career out of wearing that Barney suit on children parties just to live by my first choice, you see?

    Hehe.

    (walang halong biru) lol

kung darating yung point na kelangan kong mamili kung hihinto ako sa pagtatrabaho o mag aaral eh... i'll cross the bridge when i get there... ^-^
    thanks...

    a road less-travelled

Haha.

Mukhang desidido ka na talagang mag-accounting, giant leap from your current estado pero alam ko your wise naman to properly comprehend the consequences and expectations kaakibat ng iyong decision.

Since wholeheartedly you long for accounting, i suggest you leave your day job & go to UP, Lasal or UST. Have the best accounting education, you waited this far, you only deserve the best!

Your taking a road less-travelled, my friend.

I hope you have the wisdom to avoid getting lost along the way.

    @Kaburns

personally hindi . Anong mga nirereview mo na books para sa UP LAE , i heard mahirap daw talaga makapasok sa UP law 200 lang ang nakakapasok puro UP, Ateneo at La Salle students lang at dapat Latin Honors graduate ka din. Any Optional Law schools bukod sa UP?

Prof namin ngayon at noong nakaraang sem si Mam Ocampo, Nakakapanginig laman nga eh.

  18. #18

    Madam O.

Safe to assume undergrad ka sa UP-Manila. Will you take up Law right after the CPA board?

I know you'll survive naman Ms.O's daily fury basta don't come to class unprepared. I must say isa ako sa fave nya during my undergrad. Sometimes nga, effortless ang having a good grade from her especially sa Feasib Study namin. Hehe.

Naku I hoarded a lot of GRE, GMAT, SAT, UPCAT & LSAT materials from the net to prepare for LAE. Also bought an LSAT reviewer published by McGraw Hill para ma-master crtical/ logical reasoning section of the LAE.

Nagpapa-tutor din ako sa aking girlfriend who's a Mathematics teacher for the algebra part of the exam. Every Saturday, group study kame ng 2 of my high school friends also hoping to get into UP Law.

Malcolm or nowhere else ang driving force ko now eh, so not looking at other Juris Doctor program. Haha.

Si Lockex, PExer din at #6 sa MAy '09 boardexam, passer ng LAE kahit hindi rin maganda TOR so I'm banking on that nalang.

Hope I can make it. I want to hear more from you.
