Far Eastern University – Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts

The University first offered Architecture in 1954 under the Institute of Technology, with architect Elias Ruiz heading the then Department of Architecture of the Institute. In 1968, the University launched a course in Fine Arts, major in Advertising. After two years, however, the University's board of trustees created the Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts (IARFA) with then Executive Vice President Nicanor M. Reyes Jr. concurrently serving as acting dean and Prof. Galo B. Ocampo as acting secretary and concurrent head of the Department of Fine Arts. Architect Benjamin N. Mascarenas headed the Department of Architecture.

Jesus M. Bondoc was named IARFA dean in 1971 when Executive Vice President Reyes was appointed acting president of the University. It was during Dean Bondoc's term that new courses in Interior Design were introduced. Among those curricular offerings were the two-year certificate course in Interior Design and a four-year course in Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. In 1973, architectural board review was offered to the University's graduates.
Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts.

Ruperto C. Gaite took over Prof. Bondoc as dean in 1981. Dean Gaite effected significant revisions and improvements in response to the resurgence of cultural activities in contemporary Philippine society. He was responsible for introducing to the University the five-year B.S. Architecture curriculum. Dean Gaite molded and reshaped IARFA for six years.

Architect Marylou C. Ventura, a planner and environmentalist, was appointed dean in 1988. She upgraded the quality of art and architecture education in the University during her 10-year tenure. Architect Victoriano O. Aviguetero succeeded Dean Ventura, although moved on to other concerns after only two years and was thus succeeded by architect Miguel Carpio who remains the Institute's dynamic dean wherein now he is the Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs in the whole university.

Aside from Architecture, Fine Arts major in Advertising, the University now also offers Fine Arts major in Painting. These courses are designed to produce capable professionals whose training and outlook are relevant to national development even as the courses also provide them opportunities for growth that is enlightened by an appreciation of cultural heritage and moral values.

The Institute maintains high standards as can be gleaned from the yearly result of the board exam, for architects in which FEU usually graduates land in the Top 20. Similarly, the University's Fine Arts students have continuously garnered major awards in various prestigious art competitions. Three award winners in their student days at the University are now members of the Fine Arts faculty, namely, Giovanni C. Dela Rosa, Marcial A. Pontillas, and Modesto P. Saldana.

Hi po IARFA people. Meron po ba kayo idea kung sino yung Architect ng Lyceum Cavite or Launa or Batangas ata. Kasi may nabasa akong article eh FEU-IARFA alumnus yung nag-design nun.

Maganda ang pagkaka-design parang Airport daw. And do you have images po b? Thanks.

I'm considering FEU's Advertising Arts if ever I didnt get a chance to get a slot in UST with the same course. I want to know if ok ba ang facilities, faculty and the curriculum. I'm applying for transferee.

    @CEEJAii06

Hmm, Masasabi ko na OK ang FEU Advertising Arts. In terms of Curriculum, Mix siya ng "Traditional Fine Arts" & Advertising. In the early years kasi, Focus muna kayo sa "Traditional Arts" na may basics of Advertising na. In the 2nd half of the course, Unti-unti nang pumapasok ang Advertising, Hanggang 4th year na solid Advertising na(though may Animation/Cartooning pa).

Faculty, Most of them ay nagtuturo rin sa ibang Art Schools like UST, Adventist & CSB. Mostly, Graduates sila ng UST/FEATI(Undergrad), UP(Post-Graduate) at isang FEU(Painting), at nirerequire silang kumuha ng Master's Degree bago magturo sa FEU.

Facilities: Ok rin ang Facilities ng FA Dept ng IARFA. Drafting Tables ang pinapagamit sa kanila for Drawing/Laboratory sessions. Plus, Upgraded Computers for Computer Graphic Subjects. They also has Darkroom & Photography room for Photography Classes. At ang dami nilang still life models. The problem is, may kulang rin naman.

Thank you for your informative post.

Ohh. Kelan papasok ang mga computer subjects? 2nd or 3rd year? Spoonfeeding ba? or like they will just tell you on what to do then *** na bahala. Did you use AI and PS in your graphic design subjects? Im askin this because I wanna learn how to do illustrations, posters, layouts and advertisements using those softwares.

Do you have MAC labs for your graphic design subjects?

Marami pa kong itatanong, pero for now yan na muna.

  8. #8

Keep it coming, Bring it on! HAHA!

Wala kayong subjects for AI? For example book illustrations, comics..etc.?

Yung UST ata may MAC lab na. Sana magkaroon na rin sa FEU.

May kopya ka ng curriculum? Yung updated.

Dati kasi wala pa, pero 2 years ago, nagbabalak mag-open ang IARFA ng animation course, eh alam mo naman, Pen tablets is a must sa course na yun, so ewan ko lang kung meron na silang ganun.

Curriculum, yes, meron ako, pero wala sa akin ngayon. i'll post it later.

  11. #11

Di ba kapag sa digital illustrations, you need to use AI? or you can use PS?

Ang hirap magdraw kung walang pen tablet. Mahirap kung mouse lang. Wow, animation course? Cool. Itutuloy kaya nila?

    Thanks!

  12. #12
Dati kasi, pinapa-drawing kami then scan, sabay kulay sa computer. Ganun yung sa amin dati. Pero I'm still looking forward sa pen tablet.

  13. #13
^ May scanner kayo sa lab?

Sadly, Walang scanner. So kanya-kanyang scan nalang around the FEU Campus.

Parang more on traditional arts talaga ang sa FEU than modern art like graphic design,animation..etc.

Kasi ang digital arts kasi ay nasa FEU-EAC na (BS Info Tech maj. in Digital Arts, a.k.a Multimedia Arts).

Download time kasi kaya ganito akong oras mag-online
