I most certainly agree echesterp. The fact that we have been consistently producing topnotchers in various licensure exams and have been competetive in different inter collegiate competitions, speaks of what our programs are capable of.

We are also the lone school to produce board passers by the thousands. I think we just also have to be more strict also with the program placements especially in courses with board
Exams.

Kudos to IABF, last year I think FEU got the 5th spot. I really think we have no problems with the curriculum and the quality of the faculty FEU has right now. FEU can raise the bar if it wants to..I'm really hoping the management would pursue its plans for IARFA, the graduate studies and IL to get level III status.

I really think FEU has the potential to belong on the list of very good schools in the country.

I'm also hoping that feu identify and help those students that are struggling with english, this is what the detractors are trying to paint, that tams are not very well rounded with english. I believe there are not too many students who cannot communicate well in english, all of us underwent Speech 1 (where our communication skills are honed), from here the instructors can immediately identify the people who needs extra help and give it to them.

Board-exam-wise, FEU is doing good. But research-wise, halos wala output. Check sa Academe thread about Scopus researches. This is definitely a room for improvement.

I see a bright future for a research culture to thrive in FEU
FEU launched SURETWRITE:

The buzzword in the University since it was formally launched last April 2010 is the acronym SURETWRITE which stands for Summer Research Training Writeshop. Under the helm of the University Director Dr. Barbara Wong-Fernandez, the research culture which was then a dream to aspire for is now a reality. With sixty faculty-researchers feverishly trying to beat the academic clock, it is expected that the final polished outputs will be ready for the research poster exhibit on June 10, 2011.

The faculty-researchers coming from the IAS, IABF, IN, IE, ITHM and IARFA have been assiduously trained and guided through the URC-initiated seminar workshops handled by experts in the various aspects of research. The formal training kicked off last April 7, 2011 with a lecture on INTERNET AND LIBRARY RESOURCES under Ms. Elnora Conti and selected FEU Library Staffers. Beefing it up was a very insightful seminar on DEVELOPING IDEAS AND DEFINING PROBLEMS FOR RESEARCH under Dr. Jose Alberto Reyes who laid the groundwork by helping everyone to distill their ideas into more definable ones.

Included in the “seminar vitals kit” was a training on DATA GATHERING on April 15th using research interview, its protocol and its ethical considerations which Dr. John Addy Garcia essentially combined with a working background on qualitative research in order to ensure that certain significant phenomena in the data collection process do not go unnoticed. Further, PROPER DOCUMENTATION AND CITATION needed to be addressed thus the nuts and bolts of Review of Related Literature (RRL) was handled by Dr. Cristina Parina on April 18th.

As part of the must-do’s in data collection was the lecture on CONSTRUCTING SURVEY QUESTIONNAIRES under Dr. Alicia Bustos-Orosa who actually steered the wheel of data gathering so that all faculty researchers were expected to have their self-constructed survey questionnaires ready for distribution on the last week of April 2011.
Last April 27th, Dr. Richard Pulmones, FEU’s in-house research consultant, shared his experiences and know-how on DATA ANALYSIS and how such data could be presented as comprehensible data employing a thematic approach. This was followed up by a half-day session on USING the SPSS on May 10th which was handled by Ed.D. candidates Messrs. Manuelito Bengo and Ronan Santos.

The tandem of Drs. Barbara Wong-Fernandez and Armando Laguimum took care of the final touches required by the FEU-URC to ensure adherence to research benchmarking standards through a seminar on REPORTING RESEARCH RESULTS on May 12th.

Since a research synergy demands both artistic and textual elements, a seminar-workshop on PRESENTING RESEARCH RESULTS IN POSTER FORMAT was conducted by VP Miguel Carpio on May 20th. The Grand Research Exhibit on June 10, 2011 is certainly going to galvanize every FEU academician to research action.
Lastly, with Dr. Isagani Cruz’s talk on PUBLISHING IN REFEREED JOURNALS on May 25th, the FEU-URC would hopefully brim with applications for local and international publications.

After six weeks of intensive research training and scholarly writing, the FEU SURETWRITE 2011 participants received their certificates of completion during the closing rites held at the FEU Auditorium on June 10, 2011 which coincided with the University’s Faculty Day.

Conspiring with the theme of the Faculty Day “Making a Difference, the FEU SURETWRITE 2011 Graduation echoed the University’s coveted goal of making research an “academic lifestyle.”

The chambers of the FEU Auditorium were permeated with the spirit of victory as the sixty faculty unfurled their banners of pride through a symbolical handing out of their final research outputs to the FEU President Dr. Lydia B. Echauz in exchange for their certificates of completion.

Dr. Barbara Wong-Fernandez, the FEU-URC Director, officially opened the Graduation Ceremony by giving the audience a mental panorama of the coverage of the FEU SURETWRITE 2011 in terms of research topics pursued and undertaken, a glimpse of the state-of-research in the University before the birthing of the SURETWRITE & SERTWRITE, the budget allocation as an ongoing concern, and the breadth of the research trainings offered to the faculty during the SURETWRITE 2011.

Capping this event was a testimonial delivered by the IAS Faculty Ms. Lourdes D. Ignacio who shared how she had to face head-on the dilemma of being caught between one’s personal judgement and professional submission in implementing the suggestions of the FEU-URC Research Consultants. She talked about among other things, how she had to surpass the hurdle of editing a 140-page research output to make it fit into a 20-page ready-to-publish journal article.

Representing the collective research perspectives of the IABF was Mr. Sofronio Dulay who expressed how the value of discipline in beating deadlines has been re-instilled upon them and how the cutting edge knowledge learned from highly-esteemed resource speakers has made him archive-conscious to ensure its indelibility for future reference.

It is worthwhile to note that the SURETWRITE 2011 received rave reviews from its faculty participants who considered the program as a very good avenue to harness their research skills through the help and prodding of a roster of credible resource persons and research coordinators/consultants.



As a visioning input from these participants, FEU should be able to install a “research desk” per department consisting of faculty who are not only capable of doing research but also can ignite the fire of research so that everyone blazes with a zeal for knowledge that cannot be extinguished.

though i was ecstatic this morning when I saw the topnotchers in the list, I cant help but feel again a little, well not really disappointed, but sad, cos andami pala di pumasa sa Educ, when I checked the school performances this afternoon.

though around 73% ang first time takers sa elem, that's 3 out of 4 passers, 16/22 to be specific, pero nahatak na 2nd time takers, and naging 19/33 or 58%

and sa sec. 37/101 or 36.63%.

parang nakakapanlumo naman. how one institute can produce several topnotchers tapos may mga di pumapasa.

Elem is alright, kasi hamak na madaming schools ang below 50% and our passing rate is way higher than the national.

but sa sec. medyo madugo, and yung mga 2nd takers pa nakapagpababa.,

maybe the IE should look deeper into this, bakit ganun ang performance ng half of the population ng IE.

although factor talaga na UP,UST and PNU being just around the corner and they attract a lot of bright students,

not to mention FEU's own Institute of Nursing which can produce 2,000 board passers per exam, na pinuntahan din ng maraming competitive students.

pero pwede naman siguro magawan ng paraan yan.

Hi nikki. I think the IE is under "rebuilding process."..As you see, mas mataas ang passing rate ng mga first timer kasi di ba meron ng model classroom ang IE which i think really helps a lot to the students. Let's wait for the years to come, it will improve more pag medyo nauubos na yung mga retaker. Meron bang in-house review ang IE?

CONGRATULATIONS to BSN 219-Group 73! FIRST PLACE in the Research Poster Presentation Competition at the 4th National Nursing Research Conference
last November 18-19, 2011 at Stotsenberg Conference Center, Clark, Pampanga with research entitled “Malunggay Aqueous Extracts’ Effect in the Bleeding Time of Sprague Dawley Rats”. Participants from IN bested 40 entries coming from all over the country.

Reading all the posts here, I would agree with you guys that while FEU has already proven itself in the undergrad courses, its now time for the university to upgrade its graduate course.

For the FEU MBA at least, I've seen the improvements in the quality of professors and facilities starting 2011. I haven't seen the output yet though, but so far, things are looking good sa MBA.
