I honestly didn't need a piece of paper to tell everyone that I'm sticking it out through hell or high water.

But, I must admit, that piece of paper provides things:
    1) security for the woman.
    2) legitimacy to the children.
    3) social benefits to all of them.
    4) acceptance by a judgmental society (in terms of how they view the lady)

All these reasons for getting that piece of paper doesn't make it the most important day of your life?

    No.

What century were you born, dude?
    How old are you anyway?

We treated our wedding day just like a day na may occasion sa bahay.

nothing, I'm just amazed that a married woman will ever deny that a wedding celebration existed in her life just to prove a point.

In fact our wedding was a total surprise for me. My husband just asked me one day completely out of the blue. Hey wanna get married today? I said sure. And we got married the same day, civil, just the two of us and the officiant. We didn't even have a wedding ring or anything and both of us were just dressed plainly. We paid around $50 for the license and the officiant's fees. Then we went to our favorite restaurant to celebrate afterwards. Simple, no frills and no stress.

Been married over 3 years, have two kids, paying off mortgages, getting ready for the children's schooling, dealing with household expenses, managing finances etc. It's obviously not a fairytale ending but it's grounded in reality and all the postive and negative comes with the package.

I had a similar wedding although we didn't do it on the day that hubby proposed. The judge took our pictures while officiating the 5-minute rite. I didn't trust her photography skills so we went to Sear's for better portraits then had lunch in a restaurant.

The problem with so-called celebrity-scale weddings is that the bar is set high for future occasions like birth (dapat sosyal na hospital), christening, 1st bday. I think this mentality was propagated by the media focusing so much on stylish weddings of celebrities.

    LONERS!

eh kahit nga loners dapat may kunting respeto pa rin sa mga magulang , kahit man lang as a simple thank you sa pagpapa-aral sa kanya.

Masakit yata sa parents na hindi man lang invited sa wedding ng anak niya o kaya kahit man lang celebration, walang nangyari.

They deserve to be part of it too , you know. They somewhat lost a daughter.

I really don't get this obsession with the celebration.

celebration doesn't mean to have many guests..

kahit mommy and daddy lang with siblings..

    just the immediate family.

Nah. We were both based in the US when we got married. My family and most of my friends were in the Philippines, most of his family was in Peru.

Anyway, when he first proposed to me a year before, it became a tug of war between our families. My family wanted a wedding in the Philippines, his family wanted a wedding in Peru.

Just think, gotta please two families? From 2 opposite continents and the expense that it will entail? Too much stress.
