yup. i don't see a big fuzz bout starbucks. lumaki ako probinsya at nung nasa manila na ako e di ko maintindihan kung ano meron sa starbucks at kailangan magpasosyal para lang dun. me kilala ako kapitbahay ang yabang lagi raw sila starbucks tapos panay picture ng starbucks sa facebook pero nangungutang sa akin lagi ng pambili raw ulam at bigas. makasabay lang kahit walang makain.

1. I know this girl who has all designer label clothes and bags and naka iPhone 4. She is a former beauty queen and a model and a very known party girl. She hangs out only with the rich kids and every weekend, you can see her clubbing or at the bars. We belonged to the same org and one day we decided to have our meeting at their house. At first hesitant siya but eventually gave in. She looks really rich and all and it was a shock to us all that she lives in the squatter-ish part of the city, and her house had holes in the ceiling and it was leaking. Their bathroom is outside the house na parang hanggang dibdib lang ang walls. We eventually found out that all the money her sister sent home to have their house fixed from working abroad, she spent it on all the designer stuff and the iPhone 4. Ang mas kawawa is her lola becausenhe bedroom sa second floor, yung walls have holes and the ceiling was starting to cave in. May sakit pa naman ang lola niya. After that, my perspective about her totally changed.

2. Back in high school, there was this girl who invites herself to the outings ng barkada ko. She would brag about the riches they have and how big her allowance is. Nung bagong labas yung Nokia 3210, one of my classmates had it. Since phones were a no-no in school, she left it in her bag as we went to a separate room for our computer classes. When we came back, nawala na ang phone. So all our bags were checked. The phone and wallet was found in that classmate's bag and she got suspended.

3. There is this girl from our city who had a very rich bf from Manila. The guy spoiled her to death, gave her designer bags and iPhones, BlackBerry's and an iPad. Because the guy's circle of friends were mostly celebrities, she were also friends with them and flaunts it on Facebook and Twitter. Then she became a "designer". She got pregnant and personally told me that she and the guy had a civil wedding in Manila. Then a few months after she gave birth, they broke up. She told me she caught her husband having sex with his business partner, but her story changed when she talked to my friend. I bumped into the guy on a trip and asked him how's married life and his response "di ko pinakasalan yun! Psychotic ***** yun! Ninakawan kami ng pera tas ngayon andami niyang sinasabi na i cheated on her? Di kami kasal at di nangyari yung mga sinasabi niya!". And now, my aunt told me recently she has numerous lawsuits daw because of money.

4. Another girl from my city sells high end gadgets, watches, bags and apparel online. One of my friend's sister bought 2 iPhone 4's from her and gave her P80k. Ang dumating lang is the box for the iPhone with a nailcutter inside. When confronted, she said complain lang daw to FedEx. And when they did, FedEx said when they scanned it, nailcutter lang daw talaga ang laman ng boxes. Sayang naman the girl because she's so pretty but sobrang materialistic that she has to dupe people so she can buy designer stuff and gadgets.

^^seryoso?? dapat may lawsuit na yung girl na nagbebenta ng gadgets, watches, bags and apparel online. parang "front" lang yung business niya... tapos todo huthot at panloloko sa bumibili. kaya talaga... minsan HASSLE bumili ng kung anu-ano online... lalo na sa di mo naman kakilala, kahit pa friend of a friend siya, kasi di mo rin naman alam kung acquaintance lang din ng friend mo yun.

baka dahil na rin sa trabaho niya, kaya kailangan niya talagang mamili ng designer items at wag palampasin lahat ng parties,.. pero ang mali niya dun eh di naman niya pera yung ginamit niya sa luho niya, at kawawa naman yung taong naghirap sa pera na yun para dun sa lola niya at grabe naka-tiis siyang tumira sa ganung environment. di man lang niya naisip na mag-apartment or budget condo.


-saka yung sa married couple... kasalanan ng BF yun eh. sinanay niyang ganun... so ayun, malamang namroblema siya nung todo nung super-huthot na sa kaniya si girl. nagkataon baka "tight budget" -kasi meron na silang baby. so bago yung luho-kay baby muna mapupunta expenses. sayang din yun, nagpakasal na sila.

-yung highschool days... naman na story. grabe ang mga may sakit na "klepto" di namimili ng status sa buhay.

I really don't understand what do we mean when we say "social climber", honestly... maybe because I do not look into any social status, I look into the human quality with higher regard...

Pag ang mahirap ba is trying to imitate the lifestyle of the rich ones, social climber na siya non?

what if yung mayaman is trying to live like the poor people, ano tawag doon? social descending? hehe

bakit pag yung mayaman ang nanggagaya, we consider it noble, pero pag yung mahirap, we consider it kahiyahiya?

what about yung mga pinoy na nag papakawestern style or korean, japanese etc. social climber din ba sila?

Isn't it that moving from one stage to another is natural, and shall we not all strive to move from one stage to another? it is the way to experience life. real status is not determined by material things, but by the true way of life. status is only in the mind but in reality there is none, we are all equally free to chose the what, who, and how of our life. if you look into the concept of "social climber" in a bad way, we must not forget, that some times in our journey in this life we are all social climber at some point...

^^ that concept of yours applies lang if that poor someone managed to reach his dreams in a way na wala siyang "GINAMIT" na TAO. Or talagang BRAINS & BRAWNS talaga para ma-achieve niya yung higher status in life. Yung mga rags to riches lifestory na talagang pinag-sumikapan ng tao. I respect them.
