strictly invitational ba ang Dec. 2 christmas concert? or may tiket na mabibili?

  2. #82
^ i think the event is by invitation only. last year kasi, meron din for thomasian community; the following day yung by invitation na mostly manila's elite circle ang invited.

so december 1 ang pang thomasian community?

  4. #84
Kelan ang televised presentation nito? So far for the past years, it has been Channel 5 that has shown it on TV. Usually Dec 20-24 ang showing.

Nagpunta ako sa swatch and I saw that the watches are quite small for my wrist. Sayang.

UST attempts world’s grandest living rosary

MANILA, - As a grand thanksgiving to the Our Lady of the Rosary for its 400 years of existence, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) will be organizing its students, alumni, faculty members, and administrative staff to form a big living rosary on the forthcoming Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Through the December 8 Marian event, Asia’ oldest Catholic University will also attempt to set a world record of the largest human rosary with some 20,000 participants.

According to a Facebook page devoted to the event dubbed “Q Rosary,” the grand living rosary is a statement of UST’s unchanging love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin.

“Having been named ‘Colegio de Nuestra Señora del Santisimo Rosario’ at the time of its inception, UST has had a long history of devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary, patroness of the Dominican Order. It is in thanksgiving for 400 years of her maternal protection that the University shall hold the Quadricentennial Living Rosary,” the information on the Facebook page says.

Participants of the grand living rosary will congregate along Arellano Drive, Ceferino Gonzales Drive, Osmeña Drive, A.Albert Drive, Quezon Drive, Leon Ma. Guerrero Drive, and Araullo Drive, and within Plaza Mayor and Plaza Intramuros inside the UST Campus in Espana Manila.

Participants assigned to the Hail Mary beads will wear yellow shirts, while those assigned to the Our Father beads, the Cross, and the Center Medal will wear blue shirts. Those assigned to the connecting chains will wear white shirts.

The grand rosary will be prayed from 4 to 5 p.m. and a Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception will follow.

The Q Rosary was initially set on October 7 but due to unpredictable weather, it was rescheduled to December. A mass was held in honor of the Our Lady of Manaoag in place of the Q Rosary. (Kris Bayos)

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) ushers in the Yuletide season with the grand staging of the 8th UST Christmas Concert Gala on December 2, 6:30 p.m., at the Santisimo Rosario Parish Chapel.

Heralding this year’s concert gala is a stellar cast of Thomasian musical gems led by 2010 Choir of the World recipient UST Singers, the UST Symphony Orchestra, the UST Brass Ensemble, soprano Rachelle Gerodias, and pianist Raul Sunico, president of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and dean of the UST Conservatory of Music.

Coming off a dramatic victory in the 2010 Llangollen International Music Eistedfodd in North Wales last July, the UST Singers is set to perform four special numbers arranged by its conductor Prof. Fidel Calalang.

Gerodias on the other hand will sing Rejoice Greatly from “The Messiah” and Because of Who You Are shortly after Sunico plays Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite joined by a group of ballerinas in the background.

Another highlight will be UST Symphony Orchestra conductor Prof. Herminigildo Ranera’s O Night Divine Medley (I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, Silent Night, The First Noel, and It Came Upon the Midnight Clear) to be rendered by sopranos Nenen Alfornon, Thea Perez, and Naomi Sison and tenors Eugene delos Santos, Randy Gilongco and Coro Tomasino conductor Prof. Ronan Ferrer.

Other performers include Coro Tomasino (Tres Villacicos and Gising Na conducted by Ferrer), Liturgikon Vocal Ensemble and tenor Lemuel dela Cruz (Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee), and harpists Lourdes Gregorio and Christian Caragayan (Green sleeves – “What Child Is This”)

The UST Brass Ensemble opens the concert with Christmas Fanfare followed by the UST Symphony Orchestra’s Three Kings and Jingle Bells Around the World, with Ranera at the helm.

Pasko sa UST composed by Prof. Antonio Africa and Christmas Greetings reunite all performing choirs on stage with the UST Symphony Orchestra providing the musical accompaniment.

The musical festivity ends with the community singing of Adeste Fideles and Joy to the World.

Leading this year’s concert gala are chairpersons Fr. Isidro C. Abaño, O.P., executive director for Quadricentennial Activities and Highlights, and Ms. Maricris C. Zobel, art patroness.

I watched the Christmas Concert Gala at the Santisimo Parish. Watching and listening to these fine talents from the UST Conservatory of Music makes you really proud to be a Thomasian. Such a world-class production! Indeed, the best comes only from UST, as Father Abano aptly said in his opening remarks.

The one yesterday (Dec 1) was just a practice. Concert will be later. It's most prolly open for the community.

And about that thing they're building in front the chapel.. It is another water spectacle! There's just no way that the Nine Martyrs will be on the spot.

pampi, tonight's concert is by invitation only (for university's friends and benefactors). It is usually attended by Manila's high society, the diplomatic corps and some politicians.

If you are fascinated with prominent people in the society including Imelda Marcos, just stay outside the chapel and see them inch their way. I am sure the Imeldific will be there to support Dean Raul Sunico.

You might also catch some celebrities na bitbit ni Dr. Vikie Belo.

I think they will install a huge lcd screen at Plaza Mayor for those who cannot enter the chapel.
