History of PinoyExchange...

When I was typing to post for a reply, I wondered how did this forum started its humble beginnings. Who are the creators? Pinoy ba sila? Why they have thought of putting up a forum like this? Etc.

I hate history when I was in high school but, in this case, I am curious.

The forum was begun by people who love to talk...to express their opinions on a variety of subject matter. The BB was somehow a logical offshoot of their common interest. =) Now, I'll leave the details to the admin and the rest of the moderators!

Forgive this rambling narrative but here goes:

Nix was visiting his brother batang uliran in the US last May when batang uliran commented that perhaps there was a need for a discussion group where issues both big and small concerning different aspects of the Philippines and the Filipino could be discussed. We agreed that sports esp. basketball was important in our daily lives so we thought that would be the anchor. Batang uliran had participated in similar discussion groups before and noticed that things ran smoothly with the Ultimate Bulletin Board software so we agreed this was what we were going to use.

So the concepts were in place but how could we promote it? Enter Kaboom - a nephew to the brothers though he was, in age, between the older batang uliran and the younger nix. Why not put up a dedicated UAAP forum and ask Silverstar to help promote it? Great idea and the runaway success of the UAAP forum is proof you people agree as well!

Our initial core group includes Marco, a brother-in-law to nix and batang uliran, who takes care of the technical aspects of the site and soon, Mikoid, a friend of nix who will help us with our growth and expansion. BTW, he also designed what we think is a neat looking front page.

Along the way, we have also recruited 3 from our membership - Ada, Mister Dean and Aragorn to help us moderate other forums. Needless to say, all three have done great jobs as moderators and Ada especially as Pinoy Culture is now almost as popular as UAAP! (even more than batang uliran's pet forum, Movies and TV )

So this is where we are right now - we have just passed the 500 mark in # of members (in about 2 months of operation)and have close to 6,000 posts. All of you have contributed to our success and we thank you all.

What does the future hold? Hopefully more members and even more posts! We have a few plans in the works and these involve adding more content to the site as well as eventually transforming it into an entry point for would be web jockeys and the like. The forum will always be around and we will continue to work to tailor it to what you want.

What about advertising? A lot of people have asked me what you get out of this, if you actually earn from having a BB. I told them I don't think so (do you?) and that you're probably doing this because it's a hobby of sorts for you guys.

There really is no income generated. In fact, the Mail and More logo on the front is a store (it's actually a franchise) that we own and operate along Taft Avenue. The Neilpryde banner (the one that used to be where the Mail and More logo is) was just a filler used by Mikoid when he designed the webpage for us. We're still looking for a higher resolution image for the Mail and More banner.

We have other ideas for future sites, and we are looking at Pinoyexchange as a possible entry point to access these web sites. The forum itself is really a hobby. It's fun, and we get to exchange ideas with so many other people. As for advertising, we have not made any moves to acquire the accounts of other companies. It really isn't out of the question in the future, but it isn't one of the primary objectives of our group.

Moving back into circulation so that newer members can read. As you all know at this point, 3.5 months since we moved past the 500 member mark, we have over 2000 members and over 46,000 posts!
