tama, schedule pa lang hirap na.. tingin ng manager *** robot, *** tipong walang buhay, di kelangan ng pahinga. papaikut-ikutin ang body clock mu. Night shift, mid-shift, Asia-shift. *** iba 6days straight and work, one day off tapos work na agad. madalas may pasok pa ng weekends. hai..

once i gain enough experience in IT, i'll seek a much better career out of hp..

Did they tell you what SOW means? Because, in my line of work, SOW is statement of work. I doubt if there's a statement of work role. But, I have a few team mates working in the ALU account. Like any other new accounts, there are challenges but not really that too challenging. the planning for ALU is much better compared to other new accounts

I guess every HP site is the same. There is no work-life balance in HP, trust me. The reason I'm staying in the company is because even if my workload is crazy (I work 10-16 hours a day including Saturdays and Sundays on a night shift), the compensation is unbelievable good. I have no more life outside work, but I guess it's worth the sacrifice if I'm being paid well by the company. If you're going to work for HP, you need to set your priorities. Right now, my focus is my work and saving money to buy a big house.

Not really, I have been working at HP for more than five years and I work 9 hours a day most of the time. My workload has always been aligned to my career plans and aligned with my managers. True though, there are some situations and projects where it requires me to work more than 12 hours or work on a weekend but this is rare. I have been to a lot of towers already within AS and it's the same work-life balance. My team-mates, customers, manager do know that I prioritize my work-life balance. My career has been extra-ordinary as well. I would do admit, there are times that it's stressful and you need to work long hours but I guess this is one of those inevitable in the IT industry. The last time that I need to work overtime was March. It was a two weekends in a row that I need to work to meet project timelines. I was properly compensated (CDO-wise) and recognized.

I know a lot of people having crazy workloads and, most of the time, the root of the problem lies with employees not being able to align it with their managers or not being able to say no (though I am not saying that you fall in this category as I don't really know you situation). If your manager do know what your priorities are, you would have a great career and work-life balance in HP. It's really all about knowing where to draw the line between exceptional delivery and overworking (or over-committing).

In summary, no, it's not the same with all sites. I guess I have been with HP long enough to know that work-life balance do exists.

Agree. They always say that they promote work-life balance but it seems that's not the case.

Ano ba ang eksaktong ginagawa sa ITO division? Doesn't field service exist in HP, only service helpdesk?

career-wise? ok naman at first pero there are times na maiisip mo na lang its the same work everyday. well, in all fairness to HP, ok ang pay, in terms of time panalo (i.e. flextime). maninibago ka talaga sa ibang company if ever lilipat ka kasi hindi ganun kastrict although one thing for sure kelangan result-driven ka. but still, i would consider taking opportunities outside HP.

sa mga taga HP may question ako, meron na ba kayo specialization in terms of IT industry based from your experience(s) dito sa company?

I see. I guess I fall under this category. I never say "No" to my manager when new roles and projects are assigned to me. I look at it as an opportunity to grow and step up that's why I keep on accepting responsibilities. Don't get me wrong because I still love the company and I plan to stick with HP for a while. Paying no heed on the workload, I can see my career growing really really fast in HP. I've already been in the company for 2 years, but I've already handled new roles, got promoted, plus the huge raise. Nevertheless, I would still say that the workload is crazy (and i still don't have work-life balance), but if it's a vehicle for me to fast-track my career, I guess I can live with it. :-)

ITO - more on IT infrastructure - most of the roles here are Systems Administrator (unix, wintel, webhosting, lotusnotes, exchange), database admin (oracle, sql) and software packaging. Sakanila din ang SAP Basis Admin.

Right now, we are greatly in need of Wintel (windows server admin), unix, webhosting and dba because of the ALU account. 30-40 headcounts for Wintel and Unix alone.

Working with this company is great. The work-life balance is up to you. Masarap ang flextime at people. Mabigat ang workload. Sympre, kasi HP to. HP values performance.Kung positive outlook mo sa work-- kakayanin mo dito. Pero kung puro ka rant ng rant sa trabaho, naku, it's better for you to leave. What's good with HP is that you can talk to your manager directly with regard to what you really want for your career. Your manager will schedule for any training that will suit the career that you want to pursue basta lang e the expectations are exceeded or met.

HP Manila is growing. Remember it is Best Shore! Madaming opportunity sa loob. Career wise -- very good! Compensation, uhmm, this will follow. )

I'm glad that I started with HP Manila. Now, I'm with HP Singapore. Same workload and higher pay. hahaha! Kaya hold on lang sa role. Kaya yan! Just think positive.
