Recruitment is vital to any modern basketball program. Look at the top programs now, whether it be in the UAAP or the NCAA or even the smaller leagues, schools MUST recruit if they want to win. San Beda recruited Sam Ekwe and Pong Escobal a few years back and they delivered a grand slam and returned San Beda to the top of the NCAA after a 28-year title drought.

Ateneo recruited heavily after the whole BJ Manalo "defection" and slowly but steadily climbed out of our so-called Dark Ages. We grabbed Magnum Membrere and LA Tenorio out of San Beda, just as Lasalle grabbed Tyrone Bautista and Renren Ritualo. We did not stop there: we also took in Yuri Escueta and Mike Baldos, and now we have Nico Salva and Arthur Dela Cruz.

I for one am grateful to the great Ato Badolato that he never got in the way of his players who wanted to attend college someplace other than Mendiola.

As for Baser Amer, well that boy is not guaranteed to stay in San Beda either. I know he is one of Eric Gonzalez's boys, on loan to San Beda because Gonzalez is a good friend of Badolato's. Amer might easily wind up in a blue uniform when he goes to college, the DARK blue of NU, where Gonzalez is head coach.

Recruitment is a nasty business: it has become all about bigger and better offers. To say top recruits would prefer Ateneo immediately over any other program is naive at best, and typically arrogant of many Ateneans at worst.

unfortunately, the women's volleyball team will never be ADMU-powered for the simple reason that ateneo high is an all-boys school

so it will be UST-, CSA-, Brent-, etc. powered women's volleyball team.
