Facebook : advantage and disadvantage

I always un-tag myself if the picture is unflattering.

LOL. Same here. Especially those I'm-so-inebriated-I-could-hardly-open-my-eyes photos.


For me, it's mostly advantages. It's easier to communicate with my model-photographer circle. I also get in touch with old friends and schoolmates. I rarely post personal stuff there (I even delete any comment on my wall that pertains to my private life), hence the so-called privacy issue is not inconveniencing me.

Advantage You get to reconnect with old classmates and friends. You meet new people, maybe find love, play games, and express what you're thinking.

Disadvantage People tag you stuffs that may implicate you (like pictures of you in a drunken state). The possibilty that prospective employers search your account and see the real you.

it depends naman sayo kung paano mo gagamitin...
pwede mo naman hindi ilagay lahat-lahat ng tungkol sayo kung gusto nmo ng privacy, at pwede ka naman magset kung sa lahat ba gusto mo pakita profile mo o sa mga friends mo lang...

sa akin advantage yan, para magkaroon ako ng communication sa ibang mga friends, at for entertainment na rin.... :-)

Disadvantages : You know whats happening in your ex's lives, and they probably know whats happening in yours. Moments when you announce things like engagements, babies on the way, etc become impersonal, cause you already blasted it to the world.

oo nga mabibitter ka lang pag nakita mo yung ex mo na masaya or may mahal ng iba samantalang ikaw mahal mo pa din siya.. di ka pa naka-move on.

I still think that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

FB has definitely helped me connect with long-lost classmates, batchmates, etc.

With regards to your life being to "exposed" to the public eye...remember that it is YOU yourself that decides what to post or what not to post.

advantage - you really can connect to friends kahit pa nga classmate ko nung elementary magka connect kami... nagkakamustahan...

disadvantage? nakakasira paminsan ng relasyon...
hehe isa yan kaya kami nagbreak ng ex bf ko na...

I dont have any social networking account (sorry naman dyan..) but reading from posts here.. parang iisa lang ang major advantage ng mga sites na to which is for one to re-connect with old classmates and long lost friends...

but is it really worth the time and energy to maintain/ check your account every hour, every single day just to keep updated with how your "friend" (whom you never really gave a rat's @ss before you stumbled upon his name/face on facebook) managed to master planting crops and berries...?

Facebook is not for me

i used to go online to escape reality...but at this point in time, reality has taken over my escape so meh, i lost interest.

advantage:
- good tool to keep in touch with relatives abroad and in other cities

disadvantage:
- pinabilis ng Facebook ipa-identify sa isang tao kung sino ang dapat niyang iwasan sa real world at hindi pwedeng pagkatiwalaan

- it causes depression.

ayon sa study, dahil daw usually nagpo-post lang namang ng update tuwing may occasion so it gives us an impression that that person is happy and has a great social life while us the viewers are sat down in front of the pc, not doing anything worthwhile

at hindi ako ligtas dito, nakaka-depress din yung mga narcissistic updates at puro tungkol sa sarili at feelings yung content ng wall, either very happy or meron reklamo sa buhay. negativity is contagious and false happiness is irritating...

and for some reason, ang sikip din sa dibdib kapag meron nagchi-chismisan sa news feed ko. ayoko na lang manghimasok sa mga nanghihimasok

this is very true. nakakaapekto talaga yung mga updates na yan sa mood ng viewer na nasa harap lang ng PC at walang ginagawa. it affects how they view their own lives compared to others. especially if you're not the outgoing type, tapos you have a friend who frequently posts pictures of his own escapades, it makes you insecure of yourself and feel like that other person lives a happier life than you. it kinda affects the self-esteem of some people.
