Dolphy Film Festival at the Ayala Malls Cinemas
    JUL 26
    Posted by Veron Dionisio

As a fitting and continuing tribute to the late King of Comedy, the Ayala Malls Cinemas will hold a Dolphy Film Festival on a limited engagement from July 27-29, 2012 for the benefit of the Dolphy Aid Para sa Pinoy Foundation. The Festival will screen some of the record-breaking movies he produced under his own film outfit, the RVQ Productions, that showcase his versatility as a comedian such as the following:

    1. My Heart Belongs to Daddy (1982)

This movie defied the conventional belief that role typecasting is a box-office suicide. Kudos to the Puruntong family who’s proven in this film that they could portray other roles and come out convincingly and believably. Cast as a middle class family based in Baguio, Dolphy, Nida, Rolly and Maricel showed that they could be as effective a family living in a humble barung-barong as they are in a concrete and bigger middle-class dwelling. This box-office hit tells of a family whose rather peaceful existence is disturbed by the release of its patriarch, Jacinto, played by Dolphy, from prison after 16 years. To make it easier for his family to move on after he was imprisoned, he and his wife, Mercy, played by Nida Blanca, agreed on making his children believe that he’s already dead. After his release from prison, Jacinto finds out that it’s too difficult to live with this agreement specially when he saw his youngest child who turns out to be a fine young lady played by Maricel Soriano. So upon his release, he decides to reconnect with his family by pretending to be a piano teacher for Maricel. The conflict arises when Maricel finally discovers that Jacinto is his real father. The fact that Mercy is engaged with another man makes the circumstances more complicated. Can Jacinto reclaim his place in his family’s life? Find out.

It tells of a widower Rudy, played by Dolphy, who has to come to terms with the death of his wife (played by Nova Villa) and forced him to face the challenges of being a single parent to his five children as he learns to deal with the problems associated with puberty and growing up such as unwanted pregnancy, drug addiction, etc.

Also known as the John en Marsha Part 2, the movie centers on the struggles of John and Rolly Puruntong in the United States as they try to seek greener pastures and become successful so Marsha and Shirley can join them. Revisit the Puruntong household in this second of the eight John en Marsha movies.

In his desperation, he succumbs to evil temptations and forges a deal with the devil Satanasia: his transformation to his youthful self and become a young and rich bachelor for a year. The Comedy King won an acting award for this film that challenges his thespian skills by playing multiple roles of an old grumpy scientist, a devil and a young and rich bachelor.

    Trinoma Cinema 6: July 28, 2012; 2.30 PM and 7.30 PM
    Market! Market! Cinema 6: July 29, 2012; 2.00 PM and 7.00 PM

    5. Mga Anak ni Facifica Falayfay (1987)

Co-starring with Dolphy in this film are Zsa-Zsa Padilla, Roderick Paulate and Rolly Quizon. Dolphy plays a police officer who can’t accept that he has a gay son played by Roderick. He feels so frustrated that he cannot turn his gay son into straight guy he could be proud of. To make matters worse, he has to deal with other problems such as his assignment to bust a drug syndicate. He has to resort to disguising as Facifica Falayfay in one of his drug busting operations. This naturally plays hilariously with Roderick’s gay character.

Here you go. Mamili na from the list of all known films of Maricel Soriano

    Her Filmography

Maricel Soriano undoubtedly is the most versatile actress of all time.
The variety of her film output is unmatched in the history of Philippine Cinema. She has the most number of comedy films from John en Marsha in 1973 to I Will Survive in 2004. Her Inday Series (Inday, Inday sa Balitaw, Inday Bote and Super Inday) is a landmark in the comedy arena. Some of her dramatic films are considered classics now most notable of which are Saan Darating ang Umaga in 1983, Kaya Kong Abutin ang Langit in 1984, Hinugot sa Langit in 1985, Babaing Hampaslupa in 1988, Ikaw Pa Lang ang Minahal in 1992, Inagaw Mo Ang Lahat sa Akin in 1995 (The Philippine entry to the Oscar Awards), Abot Kamay ang Pangarap in 1996 (entry at the Toronto International Filmfest), Soltera in 1999, Mila in 2001, Filipinas in 2003 and recently, Inang Yaya in 2006. Her action-oriented films with Action superstars are all certified hits starting with the record breaking Batang Quiapo in 1986 until her last in 1998's Sige, Subukan Mo. Whether fantasy (Mga Kwento ni Lola Basyang, etc.), Suspense (Dahas, etc.), Horror (Sa Piling ng Aswang, Vampira, etc.) Romance (When I Fall in Love, etc.), Maricel never fails to deliver with much aplomb and flare seldom seen in the past and present crop of actresses.

The Diamond Star's versatility does not stop in acting alone. Maricel is considered the ‘Dancing Queen' of the 1980's and her signature dance numbers I Am What I Am, Rico Mambo among others have continued to be associated with her even to this very day. While not a professional singer, she even managed to record two songs, the theme song of the movie, Oh my Mama and the gold record hit Ngayon At Habang Panahon. Aside from a sold out concert at the Araneta Coliseum entitled Hello, Hello Maricel in 1987, she has appeared in hit concerts here and abroad in the late 80's and early 90's.

She is the third most awarded film actress of all time with 19 (child, supporting and lead actress) trophies to boost from various legitimate award giving bodies such as FAMAS, PMPC, Enpress, FAP, YCC, Pasado, GMMSFP, MMFF, Manila, Iloilo and Cinemanila Film Festivals. Aside from these, Maricel has received other acting awards from various sources such as fan magazine publishing companies and people's choice awards.

It's February - our beloved Diamond Star's Birthday Month! And what a better way to celebrate her life, her accomplishments and everything we love about her by watching her films once again brought to us by Cinema One (Philippines) and Cinema One Global (via TFC)! CELEBRATE by crying, laughing, being terrified, feeling young, in love, broken hearted and being amazed by the versatility and performance of Maricel Soriano in all her films! Here is the schedule :-) WATCH AND ENJOY the Maricel Soriano Film Festival on Cinema One and Cinema One Global!

Angelica Panganiban, Maricel Soriano and Marian Rivera
