Actress Park JinHee, “40% of actors have considered suicide”
Four out of every 10 actors here have been suffering from depression and have had suicidal urges from time to time, according to a degree paper by actress Park Jin-hee, Tuesday.
About 20 percent have actually purchased toxic agents or “devices” for suicide, she revealed, claiming that the extreme stress to stay attractive and to remain in the limelight drives them to mental instability and leads them to make drastic choices.
For her masters degree paper for Yonsei University, “Studies on Depression and Suicidal Urges Among Actors,” Park, who has played leading roles in numerous movies and TV dramas, interviewed 260 actors last year with incomes ranging from 10 million won-per-episode to less than 1 million won a month.
She found that 40 percent were suffering from depression.
Respondents were quoted as saying, “I am sick of being alive. I want to die” and “I want to commit suicide and have often thought about going through with it.” About 20 percent of them actually bought pills or other harmful devices to kill themselves and another 20 percent said that they have confessed to others about their urges.
Park said most of these symptoms derive from their “unstable status” in life. They thought their employment status was too rocky and that their talents weren’t received well enough by the public and industry insiders.
The gap between the general public’s perception that entertainers “live flamboyant and happy lives” and their actual life being “not so glamorous” also caused them mental anguish.
They were often forced to hide their real characters or feelings from others to remain “likable” and some of them thought “having to stay young and blissful” was self-consuming.
Their stress index marked 53.12 out 100, which is higher than that of self-employed men at 48.12 and salaried workers, at 48.18.
Park’s report is expected to create a whirlwind in the showbiz world recently reeling from many celebrities committing suicide and the possible copycat syndrome among their fans.
Actresses Lee Eun-joo, Chung-Da-bin, Choi Jin-sil; actor Choi Jin-young and pop singer Yuni are just some of the well-known celebrities who have taken their own lives of late.
After the suicide by the late actress Choi Jin-sil in October 2008, the number of suicides jumped by 60 percent compared to the previous year, according to Statistics Korea.
“The numbers show that people, who seem to be in the middle of amiability, love and glamour, are some of the most lonesome and troubled,” Park said in the paper.

I love it when Choi Suk Bong messes with Lee Shin Mi. She gets so unruffled quickly. It's so much fun to see Choi Suk Bong tease her.
At first, I was worried that Lee Shin Mi was too uptight to make romance work between her and Choi Suk Bong but this characteristic is actually working for the drama now since Choi Suk Bong has found a way to get to her.
How cute was it when [spoiler start]Choi Suk Bong tapped Shin Mi's arm to gesture that he can show off his piano skills too?[spoiler end] Boo Tae Hee was right. [spoiler start]Choi Suk Bong looked cooler. I think she'd fall for him later on. She made me laugh during this episode with how she acted during her date with Choo Woon Suk. Hahaha! She could hardly contain her excitement.[spoiler end]
I'm so happy to see that Ji Hyun Woo's character here is still romantic and funny and quite different from his other characters in his other dramas. The story is getting more interesting too with more mystery unraveling in the horizon!
New thread...at nice motto! COUGARS RULE for 2010!

Oh my my, ke guapo ng mga boylets, oppas, senpais etc!!!
i read at kapamilyanovelas(multiply) that ABS CBN got the rights to air PERSONAL TASTE!!!! I hope this is really TRUE.. they are going to change raw the name.. PERSONAL MATCH will be the title once it hit the primetime sched.. hoping this is really true *pray* .. I would love ABS to do the dubbing, NO ONE ELSE!!!
madami ako ngayong nababasa na comments from Min ho's fan.. bakit daw si kuya, he keeps a certain distance with his co-actress.. pansin ko nga with all the BTS released of PT, si Min Ho nakikipagbiruan from time to time but umaalis kaagad ng set after takes.. no kulitan, no nothing.. behaved talaga.. and I'm loving it!!.. sabi ng mga fans.. kuya daw is very considerate of their feelings hence the distance.. if I know better, maingat talaga si kuya kasi baka may magalit, tuluyan siyang mawalan ng trabaho!! hahahaha..
COUGAR RULES! i love it=D
Wow what a nice house naman we got here.. thanks PO.. I don’t need to post na the pictures of my fave oppas because you guys did all the posting so… kamsahamnida=)

PERSONAL TASTE: mamang-mama ang dating ni LMH dito..plus napakafashionable pa ng mga outfits.. I remember JLC wearing pants na bitin sa ASAP pero hindi bagay sa kanya, para siyang magsasaka wehehehe. But with LMH.. WOW.. kahit ano yata pasuot sa kanya bagay niya…

LMAO! That was funny when Park Gae In (Son Ye Jin) and her married friend were discussing [spoiler start]Jin Ho (Lee Min Ho)'s "size"[spoiler end] and he could hear them. And she keeps [spoiler start]outing him.[spoiler end]
I noticed that this pink Marc Jacobs Rio snakeskin embossed satchel also made an appearance in episode 4:
It's the same purse that Soo Jung, Lee Shin Mi (Lee Bo Young)'s assistant in BOARM, carries around.
Then the red sport coat that Chang Ryul (Kim Ji Suk) had on in epi 4 is the same one Min Woo (Si Won) wore in Oh My Lady.
Do these shows have the same stylists or these stylists just have the same taste? I don't like that red sport coat. It's too loud especially for a man. LOL.
I felt so sorry for Gae In at the end of epi 4. But like Jin Ho said, [spoiler start]she was the one who humiliated herself for going out to meet Chang Ryul.[spoiler end]

Page One renamed Coffee House
Drama PD Pyo Min-soo’s upcoming series has a new name, ditching the working title Page One for a new one: Coffee House.
Personally, I think Page One was more suited to the drama’s content, as the story stars Kang Ji-hwan as a bestselling star novelist and Park Shi-yeon as the head of a publishing company. It seems they are trying to capitalize on brand recognition, however, by linking this drama to the director’s 2004 hit Full House (which also featured a writer, albeit a struggling one). Coffee House will be set in “Cafe Page One,” tying in the old title.
This sorta-kinda-almost makes Coffee House the second entry in a “House” themed series of dramas. The two shows don’t seem to have any meaningful connection to each other aside from the title, rather like the “Lovers” trio (Lovers in Paris, Lovers in Prague, Lovers) and the “Season” dramas (Autumn Fairy Tale, Winter Sonata, Spring Waltz, Summer Scent). In fact, I’m hoping that Coffee House will feel more like PD Pyo’s later dramas (The World They Live In, Insoon Is Pretty) than Full House.
Following Kang Ji-hwan’s casting earlier this month, his ex-management company, with whom the actor has been entangled in breach-of-contract disputes, had come out to say that their issues had not been settled. The production, on the other hand, felt that matters had reached enough of a conclusion to cast Kang anyway, confident that he would be ready to begin filming as soon as this month.
A third lead role had been rumored to be going to T-ara singer Ham Eun-jung, but the production has dispelled those claims, saying she is still only one of three contenders. Those three actresses will all go through script readings before a final decision is made, and the final cast list will be announced next week.
The romantic-comedy series comes from writer Song Jae-jung of sitcoms Soonpoong Clinic and Unstoppable High Kick, and will begin filming on April 21. It will follow SBS’s Oh My Lady.

Lee Jia added to Athena
Lee Jia has been cast as the other female lead in the IRIS spinoff Athena, alongside the previously cast Jung Woo-sung, Cha Seung-won, and Su Ae. (And… meh.) Well, you can’t win ‘em all?
She’ll play a character named Han Jae-hee, who is a special agent in the European office of the National Anti-Terror Service. She is physically tough and level-headed, who will contrast (somewhat) with Su Ae’s cool and calm double agent character.
Honestly, I can’t quite put a finger on why I can’t get fired up about Lee Jia. I’ve tried to like her in all her previous projects — she was pretty good in her debut, Legend, though a little less compelling in Beethoven Virus and downright shrill in Style. I just can’t connect with her and don’t really feel any sincerity from her acting, which prevents me from sympathizing with her characters. And to think, until now I was all excited about Athena. Though I like the men better in Athena than IRIS (as a whole), I think the women are about equivalent. I might even give the edge to IRIS for Kim So-yeon.
Athena will begin shooting in June.

Wed-Thurs battle heats up as ratings numbers rise
Two weeks have given our new Wednesday-Thursday dramas a chance to get settled and establish their stories, and today’s (Wednesday) fifth episode offered the series something of a new direction as they kicked off major storylines. (This isn’t very spoilery if you’ve seen the episodes from last week, but if you don’t want to know a single thing about the episodes’ content, skip to the next paragraph.) For instance, Cinderella’s Sister wrapped up the teenage years and sped forward to eight years later, and also marked the drama debut of Taecyeon. And Personal Taste got going in earnest when Lee Min-ho’s character begins to make over Sohn Ye-jin’s unkempt character.
Accordingly, ratings rose for both those dramas. Cinderella’s Sister stands poised to break 20% soon, as its Episode 5 drew a 19.7% (TNS Media, or 19.1% via AGB Nielsen), widening its lead and solidifying its first-place standing. With each episode’s numbers creeping upward, it’s on its way to being a bona fide hit, both ratings-wise and critically. (And deservedly so, in my opinion.) The news was also good for Personal Taste, which dipped a bit in its second week but came back up to a 13% TNS (14.3% AGB). You can probably credit that to Sohn’s prettified appearance (her messy looks were a common complaint of fans used to seeing her more polished), which frankly kinda bums me out a little. (I know Kae-in’s a slob, but she’s so adorable! It’s refreshing to have a heroine who isn’t always dressed in thousand-dollar designer threads.)
Prosecutor Princess, on the other hand, remained stable in third place as its story delved into a child sexual assault case. Its numbers have hardly budged since Episode 1, and in fact the latest 10.8% (or 10.4% AGB) was a repeat of its premiere rating. While ratings can always change, it looks like the rankings have been firmly established and will likely remain in this order. What I’m most curious about is seeing how far Cinderella’s Sister can rise.

Jung Ryeo-won in Sleeping With the Enemy
Jung Ryeo-won is coming back with a new movie, Sleeping With the Enemy, which co-stars Kim Joo-hyuk (Terroir) and is set during the Korean War. Her character meets his North Korean soldier character when his troops are given an order to retreat to a small village, and the two fall in love.
With the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the war coming up this summer, we have no shortage of war-related projects, notably So Ji-sub’s Road No. 1 and Kwon Sang-woo’s Into the Gunfire. However, this film aims for a different focus; while the others portray the war in a harsh light, Sleeping With the Enemy is striving to convey a “warm humanity, like in Welcome to Dongmakgol.”
Sleeping With the Enemy will be directed by Park Gun-yong, whose last project was the sports-comedy Lifting King Kong. Filming will begin on the movie on May 27.
We haven’t heard from Jung in a while, it seems; she had a drama and film last year (Ja Myung Go and Castaway on the Moon), but both were subdued affairs and Jung hasn’t been much in the public eye recently. It’ll be good to see her onscreen again.
Han Hyo-joo Changes Tack in Costume Drama
The MBC drama "Dong Yi" is the first historical drama for Han Hyo-joo. The show is the latest work by director Lee Byung-hoon, who has established his name in the genre by directing a series of hits such as "Heo Jun," "Jewel in the Palace" and "Lee San, Wind of the Palace."
"At the beginning, I was determined to leave everything up to director Lee Byung-hoon, rather than doing anything on my own. But now, I want to make my own character of Dong Yi, rather than dreaming of becoming the second Daejanggeum," the lead character of mega hit "Jewel in the Palace" played by Lee Young-ae, said the 23-year-old actress.
Viewers who remember "Jewel in the Palace" are likely to search for similarities as both focus on the life of women who worked their way to the top. "It would be a lie if I say I don't feel any pressure from being compared to the last great work," Han said. "I will have to do well, and I'm sure I'll be able to. I had special lessons from the director for two hours a day until very recently."
Han debuted in sitcom "Nonstop 5" in 2005. Last year, "Brilliant Legacy," which was immensely popular with over 40 percent ratings, was her real breakthrough. "I was just doing my job, but people loved it," she says. She has an angelic and fragile image that can make her difficult to remember. "I go anywhere without makeup, and nobody recognizes me. But I think my inconspicuous face makes me versatile and enables me naturally to adapt to any given situation. I don't necessarily want to force an image change," she says.
"Dong Yi" has been airing on Mondays and Tuesdays since March 22.

An official website for idol band A.N.JELL from hit SBS series "Minamishineyo" has been launched.

TVXQ’s Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu form a new unit in Japan!
We know how messy the situation is at the present moment between SM Entertainment and the wantaway TVXQ trio of Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu.
Having announced earlier this month that TVXQ will pause/stop group activities in Japan and focus on solo activities, many fans were noticeably crushed by this because it felt like the end of the world.
But there was some sort of reprieve for fans as Avex Japan made a big announcement on April 14th that they and a management company have contracted with Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu who will be working together as a unit. And to show their appreciation, the trio will be performing for fans in a concert titled THANKSGIVING LIVE IN DOME over two June weekends:
June 5 – 6th @ Osaka Kyocera Dome
June 12 – 13th @ Tokyo Dome
Happy or sad that the inevitable has happened? Only SM Entertainment knows.
Hype Nation to select a Korean girl group member for lead role
Hollywood is currently gearing up for their first filming session of Korean American hip hop movie, Hype Nation – just recently, the makers have announced of their exclusive selection of Jay Park to play the male lead. Due to the fact that the majority of the storyline takes place in Korea, it has also been confirmed that Jay Park himself will be departing to the country around June.
Another rumor about the movie has been confirmed by a representative today, and it looks like Hype Nation will be filled with k-pop after all! It’s been confirmed by a report that a Korean girl group member will be selected for the female lead role, playing the sister of Jay Park in the movie.
Many female k-pop stars have actually been considered for this female role, including BoA and Son Dambi. However, both stars had to bow out due to schedule conflicts.
A representative revealed, “The role will be taken by a member of a Korean girl group. There are several stars who are in discussion [with us regarding this role] at the moment.”
The staff also confirmed Jaebeom’s participation in the role again, saying, “It is a clear fact that Jaebeom has signed the contract for his appearance in the movie.”
So which girl group member would be suitable to be mighty Jay Park’s sister? Guess we’ll just have to sit tight!

Rainie Yang plans to bear-hug Jerry Yan at her concert
Rainie Yang will be debuting at Taipei Arena and will acknowledge idols Faye Wong and A-Mei by singing "Chess Piece" (Qi Zi) and "I Want Happiness" (Wo Yao Kuai Le). She revealed that at 13, she was acted as an extra in A-Mei's MV "Impulse" (Chong Dong), where she held a glowstick and waved it around but to her surprise, when the MV aired, all you could see was the glowstick, she didn't get to show her face at all, making her excited for nothing. Recently she bumped into A-Mei backstage and Rainie told her that she was going to sing this song, A-Mei also encouraged her saying, "It's your turn now!"
Special guest Jerry Yan sent an encouragement text which made Rainie laugh out loud, it read, "Do your best, don't feel too pressured! To FTV (pin yin: Dao Min Shi)." At the time she didn't understand the message, thinking to herself, "What am I going to FTV for!" Then she suddenly realised, "Dao Min Shi" was a reference to his character "Dao Ming Shi" in "Meteor Garden". This "Yan-style humour" caused non-stop laughter for her. Their act for the concert has been kept a secret, Rainie kept everyone in suspense saying, "You never know, there might be chest-stroking or a bear-hug, hope he doesn't mind!"
The concert day is fast approaching, Rainie has been working very hard on her dancing, once when rolling she accidentally hit her elbow. Rainie joked that dancing was like entering the world of a stuntman. As well as this, she's been experiencing coughing and lack of sleep, all she can do is drink lots of pear stewed in sugar to look after her throat.
Rainie's low-profile mother insisted on buying her own tickets and didn't even tell her daughter where she will be seated. Rainie's agent laughed, "Mother Yang is so cute, she has already planned on washing her hair and not wearing a hat that day because she's worried that wearing a hat would make her too conspicuous and she'll be noticed by the media."

Yoshitaka Dumps Tamaki for Flumpool Bassist?
It seems that actress Yoshitaka Yuriko (21, photo left) has split with actor Tamaki Hiroshi (30) and has already moved on. A source close to Tamaki told the Sankei Sports newspaper that the pair split up about a month ago. Meanwhile, today's issue of the "Josei Seven" weekly magazine includes shots of Yoshitaka on a recent date with Amakawa Genki (25, photo bottom left), bassist with the rock band Flumpool. After enjoying the cherry blossoms and dinner at a local izakaya restaurant, they returned to Amakawa's apartment. Asked to comment on the relationship, management for Yoshitaka said the pair are just good friends and had stayed up late playing video games.
Yoshitaka and Tamaki started dating after they worked together on the 2009 TBS drama "Love Shuffle." But their mutually busy TV and movie schedules, and Tamaki's music career, kept them apart for long periods. In an Oricon poll last year of the most promising actresses for 2010, Yoshitaka was ranked No.1.
