    BPI Savings - Proof of Billing requirement

    Hello there,

    I was wondering if anyone had opened a savings account on BPI and experienced something similar to my case:

    They opened my account (I got the deposit slip with my account #) but did not give me the ATM card until I give the branch a proof of billing. I cannot secure a proof of billing addressed at the one I registered w/them at the moment. I have explained to the teller that securing one would be impossible at the moment but she only told me na "to follow" the proof of billing, but she did not give the ATM card to me after she processed my new account.

    Will the lack of a billing statement void my application/getting my ATM card and using my account? In the first place kung hindi pwede, sana sinabi na lang niya and I could have opened an account on another bank with less stricter requirements...

    A proof of address is a common requirement, not just for BPI. They need to be satisfied that you actually reside at the place you stated. A utility bill in your name and sent to the address is the easiest way to satisfy the requirement, but there are other means. If you have just moved into the house and have not had time to correct the records, sometimes an endorsement from another client of the branch does the trick.

    The teller's response is disappointing. Makes you look like you have a problem. You should talk to an officer and throw the problem at him. You want to do business with them, but cannot fulfill the requirement. Have him suggest some substitutes.

    Yes that was the case. The thing is that I am living at another address for security reasons, and the caretaker of my house is out and will not be back for a few months - all of the billing statements are with her and I cannot get them on time.

    The teller could have rejected opening my account there and then, instead of holding it and leaving the money I deposited floating. Maybe I'll try your suggestion of talking to the branch manager regarding this case...The teller was even doing other tasks/prioritized handling other people with big accounts before me, when I was the first in line. (not too related with the issue really, but I justed want to share this.)

    Nag apply ako dati sa BPI for additional savings account since wala akong billing document the teller automatically informed me that they cant process my application if I cant show proof of billing kahit may existing account number na ako sa kanila. I Need to secure the billing docs. Bpi is one of the banks that is very strict when it comes to document requirements. Sa case mo dapat ireklamo mo sa bank manager yan.

    Unfortunately, in their desire to be strict, BPI is one of the banks whose low-level employees are discouraged from exercising discretion. That's why the situation must be explained to officers, who can deal with the exceptions accordingly.
