Ateneans: snobbish?

Are Ateneans quite snobbish? No offense meant, but I'm really considering the environment I'll be in if I decide to go here. I am afraid, as silly as it sounds, that I won't be able to find new friends, as I am quite shy.

when i visited the campus kailan lang, may mga estudyante akong nakaka salubong na submissive, may takot sila and gusto nila ngumiti, iyong clueless na mukha ang inihaharap nila so they smile,,,i guess its breeding,ganon sa tate and other developed countries, kung magkasalubong ang mga strangers may greeting na pagbati na hows it goin or how do u do..

I don't think so. The vast majority are friendly and super down to earth, easy-to-deal-wth types.

Why don't you just visit the campus and find out for yourself instead of relying on comments in an online message board?

Ateneo just hosted its annual OPEN HOUSE for interested students recently. Dapat pumunta ka to know the "feel" of the Ateneo environment and people.

Snobbish? Maybe the "ish" part due to false perceptions on how an Atenean carries himself and how an Atenean articulates his/her ideas....but snob? That's urban legend.

many people have the wrong assumptions about Ateneans though I wouldn't say na totally wala. there are 'rare' snobs pero 99.9999% of Ateneans are not.

Nope, yung classmate ko ngayon sa grad school full blooded atenean, di naman snobbish.. Nasa tao yan wala sa school.. if you want to build relationships with people, spend time with them..

Something about the word 'Open House', makes me think about the words 'Zoo' or 'Animal'.

The people who come to Ateneo College are not Ateneans in the first place, most of them are from other schools.

My logic is that: If one atenean is mayabang, then he was already mayabang to begin with.

A school can't turn someone into someone else, not unless the people they come in contact with cause this.

ummm... snob talaga pag mayaman... konti lang ang hindi snob sa kanila... 1 year ako sa katipunan pero di man lang ako nagkaron ng kaibigang nag-aaral sa ateneo... samantalang, nung nasa sampaloc ako, ilang months pa lang, may mga kaibigan na akong galing sa ust at feu...

at dun pa sa tinutuluyan ko (sa katipunan), sinabihan ako ng mga guard dun na ako lang daw ang nakakausap nila kasi *** mga taga-ateneo at up daw, parang ayaw makipag-usap. ngaung wala na ako dun, namimiss daw nila ako. sabi ko naman, "haaaaayyy..."

i guess, kaya ko lang naman nasabing snob ang mga taga-ateneo kasi marami na akong mga nakilalang tao from diff't schools. kung ikukumpara talaga sila, they're at the end of the spectrum. pero syempre may mababait din naman. pero jusko, 5% lang ata ang ganun. the rest are either (1) weird, (2) unfriendly, (3) awkward, (4) ayaw lang makipagfriends.

i just hope everything changes after this post.

well, 75% of people i know who belong to the rich class are really snob. this is affirmed by the observations of other people too, particularly the masses... anyways, like what i've said, 1 year ako sa katipunan pero ni minsan, di ako nakakuhang friend from ateneo. at di rin ako nakahanap ng kausap na taga-ateneo. whereas nung andun ako sa sampaloc, it didnt take me long para makakuha ng friends from ust and feu. again, this is based on observations.

were they able to connect to the masses? kasi sa bldg nga namin, di nakakausap ng mga sikyu ang mga taga-ateneo. malimit lang. "hi" lang o kaya maiiksing statements. *** babae din dun sa laundry shop nakapagsabing, ako lang daw ang katsismisan nya at nung umalis na ako dun, nalulungkot na sya. again, this is based on observations.

Ask the photocopy ladies, security guards and maintenance people inside Ateneo and let's see if they agree with you.
