    The dangers of formula milk.

    http://coolinginflammation.blogspot....nd-health.html

Disruption of Gut Flora Leads to Disease

Babies fed breastmilk vs. formula display very large difference in inflammation and susceptibility to disease. Formula causes gut inflammation and susceptibility to intestinal and respiratory diesease. Formula also causes a dramatic shift in gut flora from a simple flora dominated by Bifidobacter to a complex adult gut flora.

so, what's the point? what should we do with babies who can't breastfeed?

leng_r... can't breastfeed? like may special needs or allergies?

Anyway, formula is not bad. It's just that breast milk is better. And what we feed our babies are our decision to make. These studies/reports hopefully help parents in making their decisions

Warnings on danger of soy formula milk; Edinburgh study highlights
    http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m.../ai_n12577802/

PARENTS have been advised against feeding soy formula milk to young babies after researchers in Edinburgh discovered the milk substitute had a significant effect on testosterone levels in male marmosets.

The unexpected findings will reawaken the controversy over soy formula milk (SFM), which contains high levels of phytoestrogens. These mimic the effect of the female hormone oestrogen, although the plant "hormones" are considerably weaker.

Concerns have been raised that consuming high quantities of soy milk might have an effect on a developing infant, but previous evidence has been inconclusive. The Edinburgh study is the first to show SFM does indeed have an effect on primate development, although the implications of this are unclear.

Soon after birth, like all male primates, human boys undergo a dramatic surge in testosterone - during this period the body produces high quantities of the principal male sex hormone. The reason for the surge is unknown, though testosterone is thought to be responsible for stimulating bone and muscle growth and the development of sexual characteristics.

In humans this "neonatal testosterone surge" takes place between one and five months of age. Monkey species undergo the same surge, including marmosets. However in the Edinburgh study when marmosets were fed with soy milk formula, which contains natural plant oestrogen, the surge was suppressed.

After 18-20 days, average testosterone levels in soy-fed marmosets were 30% lower than those fed on cow's milk, and after 35-45 days levels were 55% lower than the control group.
