Nyeh, I like most of the bands listed and I never knew they were Indie. :P

  2. #22
...........WELL, NOT ALL OF EM ARE STRICTLY INDIE. I CONSIDER ALTERNATIVE BANDS INDIE AS WELL. SO WHAT BANDS IN MY LIST ARE YA INTO?!?!

  3. #23
Hmmm.. lemme see, isa-isahin ko sa list mo.

Belly, The Breeders, Frente, Jill Sobule, Juliana Hatfield (what happend to the three?), Letters to Cleo, Madder Rose, Moonpools and Caterpillars, The Murmurs, Pixies, Radiohead, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Teenage Fanclub, New Order.

  4. #24
Cibo Matto's not the same as before though. They have songs that sound mainstream all ready. I love their old wacky songs that are REALLY annoying. :P

...........THE MOONPOOLS HAVE SPLIT UP UNFORTUNATELY!! THERE WERE NEWS THAT THEY WERE ABOUT TO RECORD A SECOND ALBUM...WELL, TOO BAD IT NEVER PUSHED THROUGH.

  7. #27
    uhhhh... I'm lost guys...
What's indie anyway? (I sound stupid...)
I like most of the bands there but I'm not really into classifying music.

layer, kahit ako "indie" ko rin alam what makes a band/music, indie. pero basically indie is short for independent meaning not released by any major label. so dont know why some bands listed are even there.

    peace!!!

  10. #30
Oo nga! Tama ka monkey. Ako ata may pakana ng mga non-indie bands sa list eh! Sowee

  11. #31
.........IT'S TRUE THAT "INDIE" STANDS FOR INDEPENDENT. BUT FOR ME, THAT IS NOT THE CASE ANYMORE. FOR ME THE WORD "INDIE" IS JUST THE NAME I USE FOR THAT CERTAIN KIND OF MUSIC.

................THE BEST EXAMPLE IS ALTERNATIVE MUSIC. WE ALL NOW WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE.....AND SERIOUSLY, DO YOU STILL THINK THAT IT IS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE MAINSTREAM MUSIC OF TODAY.....ALTERNATIVE IS THE MAINSTREAM OF TODAY!!!!!!!! IT'S JUST THE NAME, A TAG AND NOTHING ELSE. AND THAT'S WHAT I FEEL ABOUT INDIE TOO.

......COZ IT WOULD BE FOOLISH TO TAKE THE NAME "INDIE" AS INDEPENDENT SERIOUSLY AND HAVE THAT CERTAIN ALTERNATIVE, GARAGE, ELECTRONICA SOUND. BECAUSE ALL UNDERGROUND MUSIC IS INDEPENDENT!!!! NOBODY USES THE TERM INDIE METAL BECAUSE WE [METALLERS] KNOW THAT IT IS INDEPENDENT BY NATURE. OR HOW ABOUT INDIE JAZZ, INDIE BLUES, INDIE OPERA, INDIE REGGAE, INDIE SKA AND SO ON!!!!!

..........THAT IS WHY FOR ME, INDIE IS JUST THE NAME/TAG USED FOR THAT CERTAIN KIND OF MUSIC.

I quote pink boy of Hey Arnold "You're confusing me!!!!"
I agree with both deathcrayon's and monkey's definition.

    Cool

    hmmm nagulo nga ano..
anyway tama si crayon... but as for me... im into indiepop...characterised by jangly guitar pop, melodical, twee boy/girl vox(think early sound of the cardigans emmerdale/life era) ...and magulo nga kasi pag sinabing indie lang... madaming kinds talaga yan... like yung iba when u say indie... naiisip underground punk/ska..which is true rin.. some naman like in the UK when u say indie.. papasok eh britpop...like suede, blur, manics, placebo... tama rin yun... although signed to major labels.. pero dati kasi sila signed rin sa indie labels kaso caught the hype decided to transfer to major recording labels which is ok lang rin...
so indie is more than just really being signed to independent labels..its the kind of music na rin eh... as aforementioned.. when u say indiepop... u call to mind the characteristic more than anything...

Since indie music is somewhat obscure and hard to find, the term "indie" is used in that way (loosely). Sometimes indie songs and indie bands become popular, but the label tends to stick. I think flunkeemonkee's confusion could also stem from the fact that bands that were formerly "indie" by definition are now signed up with big bad record companies/labels.

    i agree with lush...

yun nga kasi yung iba they proceeded signing on to major labels.. kaya parang hindi na masasabing "indie"
pero basta.. its more than just being signed to an independent label..

    Cool

hey guys! at last I found you. Ive been lurking the internet for 4 years trying to find pinoys that are into indie music. yung nga lang, parang konti lang kayo. at least makaka-relate na tayo. its really hard to find people that knows this type of music, unless someone/something had introduced to them these things and that is the case for me. i have a friend who used to play in a band "skies of ember", and he's the only I could relate into these things. before, i was into new wave and it was really hard to make that transition but im glad i made it. at saka nakakasawa na ang new-wave dahil kahit saan, kahit anong araw, madalas mong mapakinggan. sana hindi na lang ibinalik. pero i still love some of them, those who were really capable of producing good albums. back to indie, maybe we could share something with each other like mp3s, cd copying (i have a cd burner in the office), etc. btw, my favorite band is 'the verve', ive got all their albums and singles (except for the e.p. that contains 5tracks), i think 20+ na yung verve cds ko. i think you too should collect your favorite band's albums, if you can afford, buy their singles too, not to mention bootlegs, sometimes they became collector items because of limited production.

with regards to my other collections, well, parehas lang siguro with popscenester (where did you get that handle, from a fanzine?), others are guided by voices, wilco, stone roses, swallow, alisons halo, imperial teen, medicine, sebadoh, laika, flaming lips, darling buds, ride, versus, chapterhouse, his name is alive, orchids, rosaries, pristines, riverside, po!, etc.

popscenester, dyou have the original cd of holiday? kasi i just copied it from a cd-copy rin. what album do you have "ready set go!"? that is what i have. i must say, this band is great, but ive heard shortlived lang sila. and cant find sites about them.

    thanks guys!

popscene, hi! as for the skies of ember, nakalimutan ko na ang pangalan ng ibang members, si Arnel yung kaibigan ko doon, he played bass. btw, do you know Bes (or Bez), he's working in Tower Records Alabang.

you have the cd, great! actually, ngayon ko lang napakinggan ang holiday, my friend sent me this one just a week ago. They're great, I'll buy their album sooner or later, or pag nakita ko na lang. Ang haba na ng listahan ko, sheesh! kaso wala na akong pera.

  18. #38

    Cool

Hey Phreax!!! hmmm... who might this person be.. i mean the one u know from skies of ember... i know some of them too... rad...small world.. really... well come to think of it the "indie" world is indeed such a small one especially here in the Phils...

well, i used to be into new wave myself, but failed to really buy albums cause my brother did so, so basically new wave collections are his.. hehehe..but still, i love the music!..pero indeed, irritating yung mga rehash ng new wave stuff... lalo na yung remixed! sama talaga!

as for mp3/cd burning... sure!.. but i must admit i have a few cd's only.. im such a cheapo kasi.. but now im regretting it! waaa!! Anyway, i Do have a Holiday cd, but the one i have is Cafe Reggio... i only have Ready! Steady! Go! on Mp3... Unfortunately, Yes they are shortlived...but they remain to be one of my favourites! and i dont think i've seen a site about them as well...*sigh*

as for my nick.. hehehe.. well popscene (i got it from a name of a supposed Indie Club in NYC) is the nick i use on irc.. but apparently may registered na.. so lumabas popscenester... not really from the Zine na Scenester..(which btw was a nice fanzine)...

anyway, that will be all for now!...

    don't stop the *p*o*p*!

Phreax: hey... yeah i know Arnel .. not quite sure if he knows me by name but am sure by face oo...

as for Vez, that tower boy.. hehehe oo kilala ko rin...(even went to his b-day weeks ago!)... another proof na the "indie" world is a small small place...

oh btw, yung skies of ember buo na ulit, with different line up, Arnel is still playing sa pagkakaalam ko...and they might play at mayrics this coming sunday at the buzz nite(where u could catch local indie acts) ... or sa sunday grabe ata.. hmm pero im not sure bout that pa...
