    Isuzu Trooper

guys, help and suggestion lang ...

where planning to buy ISUZU TROOPER 00 model, medyo limited
lang kasi yung knowledge ko about sa mga auto. Gas or Unleaded ata yung gasolina niya(not sure, basta either sa 2 yan) the V6, 24 Valves,72k yung mileage .. at 400k .. reasonable price na ba un? pros and cons are welcome .. salamat

Check first if its a local unit and not a converted JDM unit.

Secondlyu, expect it to be a guzzler since thats a 3.2L v6 automatic most likely and parts may be limited to the dealer and some Isuzu specialty stores in Banawe and Masangkay.

At 400K, if its in good condition then thats just fair.

We had a trooper once (year 03)...locally bought - brand new....it was really good - no complaints until it reached siguro mga 120K kilometers tapos dun na lumabas yung sira.

While cruising on the highway kunwari or along edsa, biglang mamatay yung engine....tapos may times ang hirap magre-start, minsan mabilis lang...we had it checked so many times sa casa and pinadala pa nga siya even sa planta sa laguna, but they did not find anything...they changed the batteries, the injector and kung ano ano pa...the sudden death of the engine was still there...kaya we just sold it...

But sayang...it was one of our best cars! Super tibay and tipid!

    Hi!

A friend is offering me an irresistible offer for his well-maintained 02 Trooper (A/T)

Meron akong naririnig na mejo problematic nga daw yung sasakyan lalo na pag tumagal na pero yung mileage nito nasa 90k. (and in tip-top shape sabi ng mechanic na kakilala)

Tanong ko na din pala yung handling ng sasakyan. (if possible compared sa pajero A/T kasi yun gamit ko for 2 years na)

    Thanks in advance. ^_^

At that mileage, they suspension should have been changed. Other problem areas to check would be the electrical system, the water pump and radiator, and of course, the engine better be calibrated properly so that you don't belch black smoke. MMDA people are always eager to flag down Troopers, Crosswinds and other diesel vehicles to check for smoke belching.

Is the mechanic your mechanic? Does he specialise in Isuzu vehicles or diesel vehicles?

Oh yeah, better check for signs of rust if that was used to go through floods or if it was taken off-road. If it were taken off-road, check the under chassis for possible skid points.

    ^^

Thanks for pointing out a couple of things! (actually we failed to check some of those you mentioned.) BTW, the mechanic specializes in diesel vehicles and is a family friend as well.

I'm still in a bit of a dilemma though cause I've been reading some reviews on the trooper and they're mostly mixed.

It's actually my first time to buy a 2nd-hand auto and I'm a bit pessimistic myself. It might turn out to be a huge let-down. (On the plus side, it fits my budget perfectly. ) I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that there's still a lot of life left in it.

It looks like it's quite difficult to park too. LOL.

Stay away from the 00-04 models with 4JX1 engines. They have been faced out early in other countries due to defects with the injector/engine components. Although if you get one real cheap, you might have a budget for an engine swap with a 4JG2. That's what I would do kasi sayang yung body ng 00-04 models.

stay away from the gas models because they guzzle gas like an Expedition. Our friend traded-in his gas Trooper one week after buying it for a diesel version. The problem I heard though was on the transmission...

I agree here. The 4JX1 engines were really notorious for injector problems. The best model of this as aforementioned, is the 4JG2 (3.1L turbo diesel) however it's pretty rare to find a local version.

^^ And those that do have it (the turbo diesel) will probably not sell.

Wow. thanks for the tips guys. ^_^
