Not really. It isn't ours. It's from Spain. I hate to say it, but I don't like the MerLion to be part of any of our symbols. It doesn't symbolize anything Filipino.
^The thing is nasa official seal naten it was patented noon pa bat they were claiming na kanila yan. Baka isipin ng ibang bansa na tayo pa ang manggagaya.
Local patent laws, most of the time, aren't recognized on other countries. Don't worry, other countries are smart enough to analyze what's behind the mer-lion issue.
LoL.. go ahead protest infront of the singaporean embassy!
The thread starter is dumb.
Mas di bagaysa singapore yan...yung singpore kasi..hango sa malay translation ng tiger city na singapura na galing sa hindu/sanskrit word is singh tiger sa ingles...parang dapat tigre ang ginamit nila!
goes to show no matter how singapore is economically advance it is still a country where culture and arts is continuously being bastardized...obviously manifesting their total lack of cultural heritage and identity....so sad that our government can't do anything...
What the hell is a merlion anyway? Last time I checked, whenever our pet cat gets wet, it gets sick for three weeks. We should replace our emblem animal with something more awesome, like a shark-octo-eagl-cynthialuster. Tentacles, talon, teeth, and kung fu. I'll leave the imagining part up to you guys. We be ballin'
too bad, we too poor erect our own giant merlion statue that spews water through its mouth.
now the merlion has become Singapore's symbol watching over the Lion City.
saka ang alam ko, ang legend is that when the raja went to singapore island he saw the lion with the fish tail. kaya yun ang naging symbol nila or something. i dont really give a $#i7.
Mayor Lim...should lead the charge..he is the head of the City of Manila and the Merlion is the corporate emblem/seal of Manila.
Pag naibalik sa atin ang Merlion symbol, magiging kasing kaprosperous na tayo sa Singapore!
Overnight!
With the rampant corruption in our country.. di na yata uubra yung merlion. Dapat mercrocodile na.

The heraldic device used by Manila and other seals in the Philippines is a sea lion.
http://www.ops.gov.ph/records/eo_no310.htm# The Coat-Of-Arms of the President of the Philippines shall be of the following design:
A circular blue shield with an eight-rayed golden-yellow Philippine sun at the center. Overlapping the Philippine sun is a red equilateral triangle. Inside and at the center of the equilateral triangle is the traditional golden-yellow sea lion (Ultramar) of the Coat-Of-Arms granted to the City of Manila in 1596, on guard with a sword on its right paw, at hilt.
Can you cite any official Philippine government document referring to a mer-lion?
