matagal na ito. nangyari ito noong late 90s and early 2000s bago nia naging manager si Wyngard at noong kaha-handle pa lang ni Wyngard sa kanya. isa ito sa mga dark moments ni marya sa buhay niya na kanyang napagtagumpayang lusutan sa tulong na rin ng mga taong pinagkatiwalaan niya like the late Wyngard Tracy.

kahit si vilma santos dinaanan ito. nabaon din si vi sa utang noon at para makabayad siya ang dami niyang tinanggap na projects to d point na wala na halos siang pahinga sa pagtatrabaho.

I guess one of the main reasons i chose Maricel was because of her outstanding acting skills; I also admire the dignity and strength with which she lives her life. Whether it was the highs or the lows, she’s always held her own and always been so dignified. I am proud of Maricel, she has given every maricelian a reason to be proud.

Maricel Movies I love by isabel_felix

1. Saan Darating Ang Umaga?
This was one of the rarest times when Maricel would shed off her “kikay” or “tomboy” image. Regal did capitalize on this image for commercial purposes. Back then, Maricel’s movies in Regal were all comedies and sometimes I did wish that she could be given roles that would showcase other aspects of her acting range and depth.

When Viva offered this to her, it took some time to be realized. But lo and behold, she won her first major acting award as an adult in this movie. I could still remember how happy Ms. Charito Solis then when Maricel’s name was called.

As a fan, I love seeing Maricel better-dressed, refined, and more glamorous. I hated how Regal would always cast her as this “loud, brusque, always shouting” gal out to nag William in their movies.

SDAU was one of the best family films ever. It was so touching that until now, this film would make me sob.

2. Kaya Kong Abutin ang Langit
It has the first (and the last, I guess) ever real love/bed scene for Maricel and William. For that alone, this film would always be significant to me. And of course, I need not elaborate on the superb performance Maricel gave in this film. It was a commercial and critical success. Via Hoffman was able to produce more movies because of this.

3. Hindi Kita Malimot
Obvious ba? I was a Maricel-William fan too. Sweet sila dito, di ba? For the first time, hindi ‘ander de saya’ si William dito at very demure si Maricel. And need I say that this is an Ishmael Bernal film? It is one of the best fan movies that Bernal made.

4. Teenage Marriage
Again, Maricel and William were normal here. They were normal young couple struggling to survive the trials of a young marriage. This was one of the better films of William who was unfortunately typecast as the other half of a loveteam.

Maricel’s quiet scenes here were remarkable. This film further amplifies Maricel’s depth and range as an actress. And like I said, I like it when Maricel’s roles deviate from her usual ‘bankable’ and box-office-busting image.

5. Ang Boyfriend Kong Kano
I like it that Charito Solis and Celia Rodriguez are in this movie. We know how these two veteran actresses admired Maricel. I wish I could watch this again today.

This is a well-crafted, entertaining movie about family relationship and old provincial customs and traditions.

Again, Maricel is not her usual movie image here.
6. Ikaw Pa Lang Ang Minahal
Acting tour de force. Need I say more? She was robbed off her deserving grand slam award for her seamless performance here. But then again, who needs the trophies given by a handful of people when all else in the industry believe otherwise?
7. Hinugot sa Langit
The telephone scene says it all. I think nobody can ever beat that?
8. Inang Yaya
The best film in recent years, a ray of hope in this age of mediocrity. And it wouldn’t be without Maricel in it.
9. Pepa en Pilar
For me, the best Maricel-Gabby team up. It did prove that Maricel and Gabby, both members of different loveteams do have an on-screen chemistry.
10. Summer Love
Love the milieu. Love the ‘selosan’ part, exchange of partners. It proved that Maricel has chemistry both with William and Gabby, which could not be said about Snooky. She definitely has no chemistry with William.

Love the ‘summer’ look shot in the Ilocos region. Again, Maricel is feminine here, not her usual film image.

11. Soltera
Again, it shows that Maricel can be paired off with younger actors without appearing awkward. And she’s a strong career woman here.

12. Separada
Again, glamorous Maricel. I would not cite performance anymore. For me it’s always given already when it comes to Maricel.
13. A Love Story
Sabi nga ng isang male viewer, “Legs pa lang, ulam na.” Need I say more? She’s so visually stimulating here that one would wonder why she’s not making more movies such as this.
There, I hope you wouldn’t mind my sharing this. I’m having this nostalgic syndrome. God, I do miss Maricel’s presence…

I'm sure all of you here knew about the "When I Fall In Love" incident. That was the reason why it took decades before Maricel and Aga finally teamed up. And the wait was worth it. They have made one of the better love stories of all time.

Who would even think that an older "kerida" would win over a much younger "wife"? Only actress of Maricel's caliber could pull it off convincingly and such credibility?

And it was really a sight to behold that Angelica Panganiban, the "young wife", who played her daughter in a number of films would beg Maricel, the "older kerida" to give up Aga, "her philandering husband"?

Every time I watch this scene, I would smile at the thought. How time flew and it did flow very graciously for Maricel.

I'm so happy to see Maricel grow old graciously. She acts and dresses appropriately. She's never appeared na "nagmumurang-kamyas". NEVER.

She always acts and appears her age. And I'm very happy and grateful for that. She's always dignified.

For sometime, I was afraid that she would be like Pops Fernandez or Zsa-Zsa Padilla who sometimes appear 'pa-bagets'.

Maricel has never been caught wearing anything not age-appropriate. As she grew older, she's learn to craft her own style and it's a sight to behold every time she successfully pull this off.

And quite surprisingly, she always appears younger than her age without really trying hard.
She can still hold her own opposite younger actors/hunks like Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, or even Derek Ramsay.

You wouldn't notice the age difference between Derek and Maricel in T2. I just really hope they would be able to star in a love story. Their chemistry is undeniable. Maricel always does have this wonderful chemistry with 'darker', hunk actors like Cesar. Derek and Cesar are of the same type: 'lalaking-lalaki', ruggedly good-looking.

I often wonder at how Maricel does this consistently. I mean, she does have an impeccable taste in clothes. No wonder she has been regarded as one of the best-dressed, if not the best.

And I wouldn't say that it's mainly because she can afford to buy the finer things in life. TASTE IS NOT ABOUT MONEY. Many can afford to buy more, but unfortunately, TASTE is not something that can be bought. It's acquired. And quite fortunately, Maricel has acquired such taste, through the years.

She's always been simple but elegant. She's never loud and calls attention to herself. And despite this "quietness", she still is inevitably noticeable.

Sabi nga ng isang premyadong direktor, "Si Maricel kahit nasa isang tabi lang at manahimik, mapapansin at mapapansin mo siya."

She indeed has this incredible and remarkable presence on and off screen.

SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO CRACK A JOKE JUST TO CREATE A STIR.

Even now, when she has shied away from the limelight, she's still controversial.

PEOPLE CAN'T REALLY IGNORE HER EVEN IF AT THIS POINT IN HER LIFE, SHE MIGHT HAVE WANTED TO LEAD A QUIETER LIFE.

Maybe, people are really missing her so much.

I DO MISS HER PRESENCE.

I seldom watch local TV now because nothing interests me anymore.

And it's so frustrating to see the entertainment industry dying. It has never recovered.

I really do miss the 80's and the 90's when both film and TV industries were flourishing, when there were movie queens and great actors and actresses.

Maybe that's why Maricel has not been motivated enough. Maybe that's why she opted to not accept mediocre offers. And maybe that's why she refuses to listen to our appeals.

What's the point, really?
