    Japanese Animated Movies

I am a sucker for the works of Studio Ghibli, especially those of Hayao Miyazaki. I watched a lot of Japanese animated movies. And I want to watch more. Maybe there is something I missed out? Any Japanese animated movie you might want to recommend? Thanks!

Yesssss. One cannot mention Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo without Hayao Miyazaki in one sentence. But I'm pretty sure the TS, given that s/he is a big Studio Ghibli/ Miyazaki fan would have heard about this charming anime movie, one of, if not the best of Miyazaki's works.

Uh. Yes. I am a Hayao Miyazaki fan. But I am not sure if The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is a Studio Ghibli production. Because I have researched the Internet for Studio Ghibli movies before, and I think I have not came across the title. I came to know of it just yesterday, when I conducted a thorough research for more Japanese animation titles. And hell yeah, I liked what I have seen. Probably one of the best. Thank you very much!

So far, here are what I have already watched:
    Howl's Moving Castle
    Spirited Away
    My Neighbor Totoro
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
    Castle in the Sky
    Grave of the Fireflies
Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea
    Princess Mononoke
    Sword of the Stranger
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
    Paprika
    5 Centimeters Per Second
    Tokyo Godfathers
    Akira
    Perfect Blue
    Ghost in the Shell
    Castle of Cagliostro
    Vampire Hunter D
    Kiki's Delivery Service
    Porco Rosso
    Tales From Earthsea
    Whisper of the Heart
    The Cat Returns
    Raccoon War

Anything more you might want to add? Anything will be much appreciated.

I Can Hear the Sea/Ocean Waves - another film by Studio Ghibli. One of my favorite Studio Ghibli films because I am fond of romantic-comedies .

Mind Game - I've watched this film during the Eiga Sai (Japanese Film Fest) held last July at Shangri-la Plaza. It's very entertaining and its animation style is very unique. And also, this film has won several awards and been praised by Satoshi Kon.

Steamboy - directed by Katsuhiro Otomo who's also the director of Akira. According to wikipedia, this film is the most expensive full length Japanese animated movie made to date.

Summer Wars - I haven't seen this one yet. It's from the director of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Hosoda Mamoru, so I think it's worth watching.

Good choice. I've watched these as well cept for Vexille and Highlander. I think the older animes have their own unique charm and slightly more substance.

To the TS...Hmm. if you want an anime that would momentarily give you a major mindf**k but upon further analysis would give you a sense of satisfaction of figuring why the events had to happen, I'd say watch The Sky Crawlers. It's intelligent albeit cynical at times, just how I like it if I want to do away with the normal fluff.

Cool. I have actually seen some of the suggested titles, and I must say, Japanese movies never cease to amuse me.

Thank you for all your contributions. I have been downloading and watching nonstop for the last couple of days. And yes, I was right, I missed a lot of things. Thanks for all of you guys.

    On to Wicked City.

Perhaps we may enter into a discussion here about the movies we watched? Why we like/dislike a particular movie? Their messages, no matter how subtle, etc.

Hi there, thanks also for creating this thread. I'm also searching for anime movies to watch just like you. I believe, I haven't seen all the good anime movies and this thread has also been helpful to me. You might want to check out these titles:

    Millennium Actress

    Tekkonkinkreet

    Kakurenbo - Hide and Seek
