MANILA, Philippines—The man in the red shirt makes faces at the camera, raises his hands in the air as he dances to a familiar tune with two funny guys. His name is Richard Gordon and he is running for President.
In an uploaded video on the video-sharing site, YouTube, the usually stern and serious senator took a break from his campaign to reveal his funny side with Internet sensations Moymoy Palaboy and brother Roadfill.
Less than a week after it was uploaded, the video had close to 80,000 views and word about it has spread in social networking sites like Facebook.
The duo's manager Mitch Razote told the Inquirer: "We were not expecting it would be a hit. We did not really plan the video. We did not even have a script."
Moymoy Palaboy, whose real name is James Obesa, and his brother Roadfill rose to Internet stardom—some of their earlier videos had breached two million views—by uploading videos of themselves lip-synching popular songs on YouTube.
The instant fame brought them to mainstream media: They are regulars of the GMA-7 gag show, "Bubble Gang," and are endorsing a few products.
But Razote said the brothers thumbed down financial offers to endorse a presidential candidate.
They instead volunteered to help Gordon.
Gordon, who earlier admitted he was already short of funds to air television commercials, smiled when asked about the video.
"This is life,” he said. “Sometimes it's serious. Sometimes it's frivolous. This just shows that you are human."
Before shooting the video, Gordon did not know that the Obesa brothers were famous. He said: "I did not know they were very popular on YouTube."
The video runs for almost three minutes.
James and Roadfill appear at the beginning, wearing red shirts with Gordon's name and lip-synching “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” a song from the musical, "The Lion King." Gordon enters in the middle of the song and dances with them.
One of the borthers said, "We didn't know Senator Gordon would be this cool."
In his blog, Roadfill said they researched about the track records of all the presidential candidates and found “that only **** Gordon, in our assessment, has the capability to improve our nation."
Though the video is funny, Roadfill sounded serious in his blog.
He said that after he posted his preferred presidential candidate on Facebook, a friend who happens to be a Gordon volunteer invited them to help out in the campaign.
The brothers and their manager even went to Gordon's campaign headquarters in Mandaluyong City to volunteer.
They decided to help by doing what they do best: Why not do a video with Gordon and upload it on their YouTube page which has over 119,000 subscribers?
Last week, Moymoy Palaboy and Roadfill recorded a video with Gordon shot in a garden near Gordon’s condo in Taguig City. It was titled, "In the Jungle 2."
Gordon himself was familiar with the tune and after just a few minutes of practice, the presidential candidate had memorized the steps.
It turned out to be the perfect song choice, Razote said.
The video was done in one take.
kinaganda nito sa dalawa di sila nabulag sa offer ng iba dun sila sa the best. kung si villar mag offer diyan malamang mababa ang milli0n hehehhe
I am proud of Moymoy and Roadfill..
