Hello eto nanaman ako... I think my fish is sick. The blood vessels on his fins are very red and the base of his fins/tail looks really pink. He looks lethargic. He just sits in one corner of his tank. He's still eating which is good pero he just sits there.

I noticed this a week ago and i thought that he was just sleeping more because it's winter and there's less light. I changed the 30% of the water on the Sunday. He's became a bit more active pero by Friday, he's the same. So I did another 30% change. Last night napansin ko mas malaki na yun splotch of red sa fin nya and i did another 20% change.

What do you think is wrong? I will post a photo later. I might also show it to my local shop to see if i need medication.

    quarantine that fish immediately.

might be fungal infections. try mo muna sa methylene blue, kung hindi ay refer ka na sa pet shop kung ano maia-advise nila.

  6. #1266
he's the only fish in that tank. I'm going to the pet shop tomorrow. If he's sick i really feel bad.

    here are the photos:

possibly septicemia? he's swimming around at the moment. pero fins are still quite red.

  8. #1268
Thanks. I will ask din there.

I went to the pet shop today. The girl gave me tri sulfa and made me buy that gravel vaccuum cleaner that rage mentioned. She gave me a full lecture on how to take care of the fish and how to clean the tank.

    4. itapon ang 30% ng garapon water, salinan ng tubig from balde para mapuno muli ang garapon. the idea is to acclimate the fish with new water. leave for 5 mins.
    5. do step 4 again, this time at 50%. leave for 5 mins.
    6. then lagyan ng methylene blue yung garapon water as indicated sa label. leave fish there for 3 hours or half a day.

when joining new fish to community tank, just do steps 4 and 5 using tank water, or until halos malabo na yung pagka-blue ng water sa garapon. then isalin na ang isda sa tank.

this is what i normally do. it may or may not work for you, kayo na bahala.

I meant walang instruction whatsoever. We initially got a fishbowl with our fish and was told it will be enough for 2 orandas. Only to find out later on that 2 orandas need at least 30 gallons of water double filtration etc.

I accept that as a buyer, i have the responsibility to do research etc pero pag sinabi sa iyo sa fish shop that this set up will be ok, you would think you can rely o that.

This new shop that i go to, i tried buyig another fish and the person refused to sell me a fish kasi nga daw my tank is too small.

Anyway, just ranting and sharing what i learned since i adopted Ponyo. I'll update you guys kung ano mangyari. Hopefully he will be fine.

  11. #1271
    Ponyo... cute name.

  12. #1272
@slice: atleast ngayon narerealize mo na rin yan, dati ganyan din ako nun baguhan pa.. yun pag research yan yung exciting sa hobby. yung ibang di nakakaintindi, sinasabi madali lang mag alaga ng isda.. pero para sa akin, sa simula pa lang e mahirap na.. it involves a lot of planning.. minsan kahit gusto mo yun particular na isda e di pwede for some reasons like wala ka pwesto, bawal sa pinas, pagagalitan ka ng misis mo kasi masyadong malaki yun aquarium, malakas sa kuryente yun filter mo, etc..

  13. #1273
Yep mahirap talaga mag alaga pero worth it naman.

Ponyo looks better. Fins are less red and he was swimming in his tank when i woke up. I will have to do a second dose on saturday but he's made progress. Thank God.

wow.... ganun pala yun... kasi ako pag bumili ng bagong isda, nilalagay ko siya sa tabo, yung tubig sa plastic eh sinasalin ko sa tabo... tapos nilalagyan ko ng meth-blue pero mga 5 mins lang then check if he got some lice in his body and fins... tinatanggal ko po usin tsani.... minsan may isa o dalawa... then lagay ko na po sa tank.... then check the other fish in the tank if may pagbabago sa kanila after i put the new fish... if napansin ko na nag flashing sila, lagay ulit ng meth-blue sa tank, mga 20 drops po...

nice.. i suggest that after treatment, place some activated carbon in your tank, since gumamit ka ng medication, it will adsorb the remaining medication in your water.

mag iistart ka ulet mag set up ng biological filter nyan.. since some medication can kill the beneficial bacteria in your tank.

This is my filter. I took out the carbon cartridge when I
Medicated. So i guess i just put it back in?

How often do you need to change the filter medium? The lady said the carbon cartridge needs to be changed every 6 weeks. There's a foam filter as well but she didn't say anything about changing it.

alam ko it depends on your filter and also how many fish you have (kasi mas marami mas madumi)... sa akin kasi araw-araw ko pinipiga yung foam sa filter...

can you post the full view of your tank pls...
