@j_mike15: i agree with rage_within.. meron mga snails na di kaya yun ibang type ng algae, minsan kailangan mo manually tanggalin yun.. pero magandang pantagal din ng algae yun nerite at ramshorn snail.. as well as bristlenose pleco at shrimps.. ramshorn snail, mabilis dumami, minsan peste na rin. maglagay ka lang ng 2 semi adults after 2-3 days me itlog na e.. yun nerite naman, parang sa brackish lang ata nagbi-breed..

just follow yung prevention tips ni rage.. pinaka agree ako dun sa #2. yung iba not applicable na sa akin. kasi dagdag tubig lang ako, at nasa labas ng bahay yun tank ko..

Thanks for the added advice bloodbath.

A fisherman or caretaker was holding knife fish which is about 2ft long which they said is beacoming a threat.

knife fishes are voracious carnivores, literally an eating machine.

it is a threat. letting a foreign/exotic fish like that in our lakes would be like putting in a vacuum cleaner that would suck any species of fish. 2 feet long... imagine how many live fishes na nakain nun to get to that size.

whoever man yung nagpakawala nun sa lake would either be an uncaring idiot or just a plain imbecile.

    http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/196945/...in-laguna-lake

nagsimula po ako mag alaga ng isda noong January this year...
    pero laging namamatay...
so i search and nalaman kong napakakomplekado pala ang fish keeping, hindi basta basta hehehe...

    1 pleco (a.k.a. janitor fish)

and i'm confuse about this activated carbon....

compared sa normal uling, syempre this would cost a bit more. uling is so cheap, kahit saan mabibili. i believe you can use normal uling since pwede mo syang ma-reuse basta tuyuin mo lang maigi sa araw. downside lang nito, just make sure na walang halong chemicals like oil or kerosene, or else tigok mga alaga mo imbes na mapabuti.

Hi guys. I just bought a fish 3 weeks ago. And i have a few questions.

    1. My red cap oranda has white spots on his wen. I'm worried it's ich but there are no white spots anywhere else and it's not grainy. Could it be stress? I had to transfer him to a tank last weekend when The bowl cracked after cleaning. I put him in a big jar temporarily but i accidentally put hot water from the tap instead of cold. It looks happy and healthy apart from the white spots. I havent tested the water but will do so when i find time to buy a kit this weekend.

    2. I'm thinking of getting a friend for him. Whats a good small fish to put in a tank with the oranda? I have a 5 gal tank. I'm open to snails too. Basta low maintenance and hardy.

  11. #1211
^ get him another oranda, with the white spots (i am not so sure about this) i think its fungi infection, i suggest that you quarantined your oranda first before joining it with other fishes para hindi mahawa.

  12. #1212
I had a look this morning and some of the spots were gone. Lalo na the bigger ones.

I'm worried about getting a second oranda from my research they grow to be the size of baseballs and my 5 gal tank won't be able to accomodate two of them.

Minsan dirt lang kasi yun nakikita mo na nadidikit sa body nila. covered kasi ng slime yun katawan ng isda, so kung me sand, durog na fish food yun tank mo, minsan nadidikit sila sa balat ng isda. observe the behavior of the fish, if the fish is too lethargic, that's the time you can say that it is sick.

ang suggested daw na tank size sa gold fish ay 10 gallons kada isa.. kasi daw voracious eaters so malakas sila magdumi.. pwede mo naman di sundin yan, basta maganda ang filtration mo.. at once a day ka lang magpakain.

since koi ang alaga nyo, maganda kung overhead filter ang gamitin nyo.. i would like to add na yun koi, lumalaki sila ng todo, so eventually, itatransfer mo yan sa mas malaking tank, or pond.

Thank you. He's very active. Last night I spent half an hour watching him. He floats up tapos swims really fast pababa.

My tank is filtered and the water is clear naman after one week of no water change. Would you suggest we change the water weekly considering he's a very dirty fish?

Do you think I could add another fish? Or a snail? Or a shrimp? He looks very lonely.

shrimp? snail? i think they are too small for your oranda, i suggest get gold fishes na lang.

siguro mas okay kung bawasan mo pagpapakain, nun nag goldfish kasi ako, twice a day ako magpakain, tapos marami pa ako binibigay, then mabilis dumumi nga yun tubig, so i tried to give smaller amount of pellets, twice a day.. eventually, i changed to once a day feeding, then less water change per week.

then for the tank mate, i would have another oranda. but it would be better if you will upgrade your tank into 20 gallons, before adding a new fish..

sa fish keeping kasi, the larger the tank, the easier to maintain the water parameters.
