try the fighting fish/betta splendens' cousins... the gourami. they're both anabantoids, meaning they possess a labyrinth organ that makes them get oxygen from the water surface instead from within the water.

Rage, ok *** ba sila i keep sa Fish bowl? i mean yung mga Betta's or Gourami, may nakausap kasi ako na nag aalaga sabi nya madali ang buhay ng isda pag fish bowl kasi maliit yung opening...

  4. #964
^at ang sabi naman sakin hindi na daw kailangan ng o2 pag bowl ang aquarium> ano ba talaga mga experts? or kailangan ng halaman yun nga lang dapt may ilaw? para makaproduce ng o2?

  5. #965

uhm you might be referring to the Pacu, which i believe (if i am not mistaken) a member of the carachin family (surprisingly, cousin of the neon tetra)....

...which is also a docile cousin of the piranha.

at oo, lumalaki ang pacu (see below).

a gourami is a different specie...

and... hey, thanks! it's my pleasure.

if you would follow the general "1-inch of fish per gallon" rule, the answer would be yes.... fishes won't thrive in such small spaces such as an ordinary fishbowl... and not because of the small opening. imagine being locked in a minicooper with three of your friends, tapos sabay-sabay silang uutot... just kidding, but ganun ang easiest analogy na nakukuhang discomfort ang isda. di gaya natin, lumalangoy at humihinga sila kung nasaan narooon din ang katas ng ebak nila, isama mo na ang nabubulok na left-over food, tapos di pa oxygenated ang tubig.

sorry, no it's not mine. random lang na pic na nakuha ko sa web. but dati meron akong blue gouramis gaya ng nasa ibaba. tagal din ng buhay. very low maintenance and does well with almost any tankmates.

hmmm makatingin ng ng gourami sa petshop. mukang maganda din eh. do they preferred alone or madami? di kasi pede sa akin malaking aquarium its either fish bowl lang or yung aquarium (rectangular) na smallest.

    thanks again sa sagot rage!

  10. #970
no problem. gouramis can be alone but better in pairs/trios. i would suggest the dwarf types kasi cute.

    ^noted!

since wala ako oxygen lagyan ko na din ng halaman noh?

  12. #972
yup. that would help, besides weekly 25% water change.

Hydrilla (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrilla) and Cabomba (http://www.aquahobby.com/garden/e_cabomba.php) ang pinakamadaling maisa-suggest. they grow easy... and fast, so just trim and discard. no need to secure them on the soil as they are just fine na palutang-lutang.

marami nito sa petshops, mura lang kung sakaling binebenta. kung maaari, hingi ka na lang ng trimmings.

    nice avatar, by the way.

  15. #975

pinutakte ako ng algae after kong mawala ng 1 month dito sa japan. no choice but to reset. heto na sya ngayon, now trying to make a carpet out of the Cobra Grass i planted.

di ko muna inilagay yung neon tetras para kutkutin lagi ng shrimps yung natitirang beard algae sa driftwood.

turtles, like goldfishes are sh!t machines, hehe. paano ba setup mo, and what kind of turtles ba? if red-eared sliders, they're basking turtles which requires you to have the tank half-full, then may basking spots sila. downside, you can only have an internal filter which only collects solid matter, pero bantot ay di mawawala. frequent water changes kelangan.

if aquatic turtles like shoft-shelled species, ok ang full tank ng water, an overhead or hang-on-back filter would do fine.

but depende pa rin sa laki ng turtles mo ha. the more na malaki, the more na ma-ebak sila. anyways, di gaya ng fishes... frequent water changes lang katapat nyan... that's by experience lamang po.

    salamat po sa pag-appreciate.

well, sa current setup ko kasi (besides di uso brown out dito sa japan)... as long as i have 6-8 hours of light sa planted tank ko, it's fine.

kung magka-brownout man ng saglit, no problem. i can compensate. pero kung gaya sa pinas na tamang 4-6 hours brownout... it would be a disaster to my planted tank.

fishes would be just fine, though. without light temporarily or filtration... frequent once-a week naman ako mag-water change so ok pa rin quality ng water.

yes sir, i have red-eared sliders, yun na din kasi ginagawa ko, frequently changing their water, nakakatamad din kasi minsan.

thanks for the info sir rage.
