Hello and good day!

Im back to my childhood hobby and yes, setting up fish tanks is fun some may dont have interest though but hey here's mine

- 10 Gallon fish tank, drift wood live plants
- Neon Tetra

I would really like to set up this all-Neon-tetra fish tank.

maganda sa paningin.

but Im really having problem sa current condition ng set up ko, madalas may namamatay pa-isa isa.

hopefully this thread would flourish for the other forumers who love aquariums and fish.

Hi! I am into saltwater/marine aquarium. FOWLR System with some soft corals and mushrooms. 3ft tank with Quick Start System Plug and play filter with protein skimmer.

Sa QT tank ngayon ang fishes ko.

Medyo bago pa din naman (4 months) pero my fishes are getting bigger and happier. I have 3 percula clownfishes with their host anemone, 1 hippo (blue) tang, 1 yellow watchman goby and 1 fingerfish.

Dr. Shrimp (skunk shrimp) is inside the DT (Display Tank) coz I am treating my fishes with Cupramine as they had an outbreak of ich while at the DT.

Because of my naivety and never quarantined my new fishes before, I have also experienced the pain of losing some fishes such as my yellow tang, butterflyfishes (copperband and racoon), firefish, some neon gobies.

I prefer Saltwater than Freshwater....mas colorful kasi ang fishes and love ko mga marine fishes.

If you have some simple questions on Marine Aquarium, I would be glad to share with you what I know.

wow finally may mga nag aalaga din ng mga isda dito sa pex... bago lang po akong ng aaquarium... i have some bette fish yung vailtale lang... and a month ago nagset-up ako ng tank originally for neon tetra... pero lahat ng binili ko namatay na lahat... so natira na lang sun sa bago kong aquarium are the resbora... gusto ko pa sana lagyan ng kulay yong tank... sana po mga sir matulungan ninyo po ako kung paano ang tamang set-up para sa mga tetra... salamat po...

Different fish have different needs and different environments from where they were originally from. Bettas are hardier because they don't rely on the dissolved oxygen in the water too much as they are anabantid. Rasboras are originally from Thailand, Malaysia, etc... while the neon tetra is from South America. You can already see the disparity of environments here.

I have been taking care of fish for many years, and the neon tetra was one of the most challenging. The secret is to monitor the pH and acidity/alkalinity level of your aquarium. Take note that sand, driftwood, even plants, rotting food, waste, etc...can alter the pH balance of your aquarium. Tip: before buying the neon tetras, ask the store owner where they came from, because if you can replicate the conditions of that aquarium then your fish have a better chance of surviving. If you can get a sample of the water they were living in, test it and see if you can approximate it. When you buy fish from a pet store, the tanks are bare. This not only makes it easier to catch fish, but on the upside, because they are not covered, allows the water to evaporate a bit, lets some harmful gases dissipate and absorb oxygen.

Mag experiment ka. One tank has all the plants, etc.. that you have, and another tank is bare. Put one set of tetras in one, and the other in the bare tank. Using the same water for both tanks, see which tank has most fish alive after a week.

Take the pH levels in both tanks and note the difference. Trial and error ang pagiging aquarium hobbyist.

Hi there! actually I've thought a lot about of having saltwater fish rather than freshwater but ended up with the latter.

for some reason naiisip ko kasi ang maintenance ng saltwater masyado pahirapan for the reason that I am living far from where I can get a purified saltwater and the only available water I have the ones that comes from a deep well. We dont use NAWASA either.

I really like to try though bec Saltwater fish, IMO, are far more beautiful than freshwater fish

maganda talaga tetra noh? lalo na kapag marami sila? kapag naayos ko na ca ko pic ko *** set up ko.

hindi ko na naisip na maglagaw ng kulay ng tubig. I just made use of a black background for the contrast,dark gravel, driftwood, live plants and pink reflector light lang.as simple as that and maganda na siya tignan as for my own idea of a aquarium set up

so far ngayon wala pa naman ako nakikitang namatay na tetra ko, out from 18 7 na lang sila since last friday pero mas masaya naman ako ngayon kasi wala pa namamatay since yesterday ng hapon.

i think kelangan ko ng iconsider *** ibang factor like the hardness/softness of the water, pH, the Temp and ammonia level. though I use Tension-gon (water conditioner daw sabi ng shop ko dito sa Pangasinan) and nung nagtext ako kung bakit namamatay isa isa sabi balik daw ako at may ilalagaw daw akong AQUTON ba iyon? dont really have an idea. But hopeflly I've share something that might help you on your tetra.

pero napansin ko may 2 to 3 akong tetra na nang bubully sa iba kaya naiisip ko baka sila *** cause kung bakit may namamatay na paisa-isa

maraming salamat sa post mo. its a really big help. maybe the culprit was my driftwood and live plants and some foods that were not consumed. How can I maintain such pH (alkalinity/acidity) of the water? I've read some reviews that neon tetras dont need frequent water changes as this may result to stress to them. I really love tetras kahit na puro tetras lang laman ng tank ko solve na ako dun.

and what do you use to determine the pH of water? do you use litmus paper?

as I've said I used to be an aquarist nut never got the chance to learn the proper way kasi bata pa ako nun.

Palagi pa nga ako bumubisita sa bio research just to check out kung ano ang bago.

yup. pero im not sure kung tama ito. Tensio-gon ang name nung solution pero I dont use naman NAWASA. Deep well kasi ang gamit dito sa amin. kaya ang nasa isip ko less noxious substance compared sa nawasa due to chlorine content

namatayan nanaman ako ng 2 tetras. hindi ko alam baka dagil sila sila mismo nag bubully and nipping each other's fin

nakabili na rin ako ng submersible hydrometer. and my water temp clocks at 28 degress Celsius. medyo higher ng konti sa recomended water temp (20 - 26)

hay. gusto ko na mag shift sa swordtail

hello im a fishlover also umm im planning po kasi na mag set up ng isang well planted na aquarium nakakita kasi ako sa cartimar and sa robinsons gale and nagandahan po talaga ako kasi makakarelax. ano po ba ang kailangan i-consider sa paglalagay ng live plants sa aquarium?

nagtanung po ako sa gale at ang sabi kailangan daw japanese substrate ang gamitin ko - totoo po ba?

tapos yung sa cartimar naman and sabi sakin i have to buy this C02 tank pero ang mahal 3k to 5k yung tank. tapos kung maliit naman yung aquarium pwede na rin daw yung liquid form na C02 na ipapatak everyday sa tank.

another question umm di po ba nagrerelease na din naman ang isda ng c02 so bakit kailangan pang bumili ng mga nabanggit ko sa taas.

^^^ Fish don't give off too much CO2. They have small gills. Plus, if you have aeration and a strong filter, this would also help dissipate the CO2 in the tank. So the CO2 tablets may help. One of the tips in raising plants is not to use too much aeration. If possible, don't use aeration. Ang nakikita natin sa Bio Research na tanks na perfect ang plants is because they clean the tanks and replace the dead plants. Punta ka sa Cartimar and look at some tanks there na may halaman at mapapansin mo na walang aeration. Malago ang tubo ng halaman at masaya ang isda. This is what they call a "balanced" tank.

Try African cichlids. Maraming magaganda. The only downside is you cannot have plants with them because they will tear the plants and/or uproot them. At medyo aggressive sila sa isa't isa at sa ibang isda so don't put them in with gentle fish.

I've left with 3 tetras na lang...haysss! but silang tatlo iyong tumagal..2 weeks na mag 3 week na yata.

silang 3 din iyong nag kakagatan ng buntot.

Possible kaya un sa Tetra set up? as in walang aeration?

^^^Yes bec the CO2 in the water won't disappear too fast, before the plant has a chance to absorb it. But remember the old rule for an unfiltered/non-aerated aquarium that has plants: one inch of fish per gallon.

Before buying fish, better set up your aquarium and allow the plants to thrive for a week or two. You can put one fish, like a swordtail or a female guppy, to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.

I remember when I had to leave for three weeks I left my 50 gal aquarium with some plants and two swordtails. Pag balik ko parang jungle siya, ang kapal ng halaman at may algae ng konti so di ko na nakita ang isda. But when I used the filter, ayun after one week the plants started to die. I added more fish to supplement the two but kept aeration on and the plants did not thrive.

The saying "Leave well enough alone" comes to mind.

^^^ That's the downside, but if you do not overfeed your fish, siphon the dead and decaying matter on the bottom, and scrape the algae that forms, then your tank will still be ok. Never leave any uneaten food on the bottom. Just feed your fish what they can eat in 5 minutes. Remember not to disturb the plants after you've planted them and they've taken root.

para hindi magkaroon ng algae sa glass, maglagay ka ng 2-3 snails. yung maliliit lang. pero mag-ingat ka dahil merong isang klase ng snails na grabe kung magreproduce. pupunuin yung aquarium mo, hanggang sa kasuluk-sulukan ng mga bato-bato mangingitlog sila. i ended up replacing all the stones, plants, atbp.

ngapala, maglagay ka rin ng mga 2 hipon na maliit para kainin nila yung excess na feed. ingat lang kasi kung minsan, kung masyado masikip yung space, pati yung isda nahuhuli nila.
