Squats are a predominantly lower body focused exercise. It targets your glutes, quads, hamstrings, and even the calves. Since stability is needed in this exercise, the core gets a decent workout as well. In short = KING

What can I use to replace Powerclean's in Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength program? Though I'm not avoiding the Powerclean, the gym that I go to lost their barbell collars and I don't want to do powerclean's without collars (if it's even possible to powerclean without collars).
Some people recommend Pendlay Rows and some recommend pull/chin ups to replace the Powerclean.
Any tips?

^Thank you.
LAGUNAMAN-
I`ve done power cleans zillions of times WITHOUT collars, although its a very rusty olympic bar where the plates move very little.
In fact most every weightlifter or powerlifter hardly ever put on a collar for a LOT of exercises.

@patrickt - Thank you for the comment.
@Lifting Experts - Is it "advisable" to do Powerclean's without collars like what patrickt does? The olympic bars at the gym I go to are not rusty and the plates do move a lot. I really like Powerclean's but I'm a little concerned of safety because of no collars.
I often do powercleans even without lifting collars... but if you are unsure, wag pilitin... especially if you're not 100% sure you get the form down right

Would it be OK to add 1 session of kettlebell training to my 3x weekly Starting Strength?
^What is your goal to begin with??

^ I'd do day 1 and 3 for SS and day 2 for kettlebell training or any other conditioning

I have been doing the basics for some weeks now.
3x5 Squat
3x5 Bench Press
1x5 Deadlift
That for 3 times a week, with a little increase in weight lifted. What should I do next? In particular, should I focus on the same routine but with increasing weights? Or should I start considering doing other types of workout?
Thanks!
