    THE PACIFIC (HBO Miniseries)

    The Pacific

From the producers of Band of Brothers, comes a 10-part miniseries focusing on the struggles of the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific War.

    Watch the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e99B80crU3E

Tom Hanks: "It’s not about maps and tactics or ultimate moments. It’s about individual guys who find out that they can do things when they’re exhausted and that they can do things when they’re scared. Sometimes what they can do is curl up in a ball and not do anything and other times go off and carry somebody to safety or kill a guy. You know, those are all momentous moments in anybody’s life and that’s what the details are…that’s what’s important about any story about, I think, war is that you come down to a moment where some kid has been trained to do something and it’s not a pleasant thing that he has to do."

    Sounds good!

The series is set to debut on HBO in March 2010.

Yes, you could say that - but set in the Pacific theater. Like Band of Brothers, it focuses on the actions of a single combat unit, the 1st Marine Division, and the trials and tribulations its men endured during some of the bloodiest fighting of WW2, at places like Iwo Jima and Peleliu.

I was hoping that HBO would do a "Band-of-Brothers" type of miniseries focusing on the Pacific theater of war.

I do hope that "The Pacific" is worth the looong wait.

But then again, when did the team-up of Spielberg and Hanks fail to deliver?
