The List: Top 10 Players in Their PBA Rookie Seasons
In 1999, San Miguel traded its incumbent star Nelson Asaytono midway through the season along with Will Antonio to Pop Cola in exchange for role players Nic Belasco, Dwight Lago, and Boybits Victoria. It signaled that the Beermen were banking on rookie Danny Seigle to take over scoring cudgels.
Seigle didn’t disappoint. He led the Beermen to the championships in the last two tournaments of the season, and was named Rookie of the Year. He was a strong candidate to win the Most Valuable Player award, but fell short after being defeated by the top player on this list.

SAN MIGUEL BEER’S GREATEST TRIOS
WRITTEN BY MAKIE ON 07 APRIL 2012.
by Makie
Danny Ildefonso, Danny Seigle, and Olsen Racela – This trio has won nearly a third of San Miguel Beer’s titles as of this moment. The Beermen won the 1999 and 2000 Commissioner’s Cup and Governor’s Cup titles, 2001 All-Filipino Cup, 2004-05 Fiesta Conference, and 2009 Fiesta Conference with Ildefonso, Seigle, and Racela. The trio has a combined 2 MVPs and 2 ROYs to their credit with Ildefonso winning the 1998 ROY and 2 MVPs and Seigle winning the 1999 ROY award. Seigle nearly became the second player to win the MVP award in his rookie season, finishing second to Benjie Paras in the 1999 MVP polls who, coincidentally, was the only player to do such feat in 1989.
Even though San Miguel failed to win a grand slam with the trio but almost made it in 1999 and 2000, they are still considered as the best triumvirates the team has ever had because of their duration. The trio should have won more titles if not because of Seigle’s injuries.
