Ateneo law doesn't have essay, I was talking about UP LAE. Frats won't help you *before* you enter law school. Frat people don't have connections to the admissions committee.

LSAT is also okay, pero the UP and Ateneo entrance test has several parts na wala sa LSAT reviewer, like Math.

The exam is really hard and you should probably brush up on the subjects that you would be tested on as discussed here.
I'm just curious but where did you get the idea that joining a frat would get you into Ateneo or UP law school? I think that the safest bet would be to study and prepare for the exam. You would at least get a fair chance of making it to the interview phase in UP where the fun really begins hehehe. Anyway, once you do get into either law school you might be recruited by a fraternity.

    archimedes,

you don't need a frat to get into law school. hindi naman titingnan yan ng mage-evaluate ng records mo at ng magi-interview sa yo. what they will look at would be your entrance exam result, pre-law grades, and how you do sa interview. mag-frat ka na lang when you get in, kung gusto mo. just review well, pray hard, and brush up on your logic and current events.

    good luck.

Yung Princeton may correct explanations to the questions ba ito sa likod ng libro?
By the way eponine san ka naglalaw?

nicomachus, and to all ateneo law students,
i'll be an incoming freshmen law student at Ateneo. Someone told me that it would be difficult or worse, impossible to survive law school without joining a frat? Is this true? I really hope not coz I have no intentions of being a frat member.

    THanks!

    Cool

you don't have to join a frat to survive ateneo law school. in many cases, fratmen get kicked out precisely because of frat activities.

some years ago, several students not only got kicked out but criminally charged for the death of their neophyte, lenny villa. those who managed to graduate in other schools and pass the bar were not allowed to take their oath as attorneys - hence, they can't practice law and cannot put the prefix "atty." before their names. most, if not all, wished they never joined their fraternity.

my advice: go to law school, join "balikatan", refuse any invitation to any frat "orientation" or party, study hard, and graduate frat-free.

Is it still possible to reapply for Ateneo? I wasn't accepted because I was woking. I didn't know that, in Ateneo, you have to study full-time. How about in UP? Can you study while working?

    dredd,

it is still possible to reapply. how did you know that that was the reason why they didnt accept you? in any case, ateneo law expects its students to be full-time students. in other words, if you are a student, be a student, no full-time work. it has a more demanding load than UP. 8 subjects compared to UP's 6 in the first sem.

in UP, there is an option to be a part-time law student. You attend evening classes and you get to finish your law degree in five years, while pursuing full-time work on the side.

in Ateneo, unfortunately, there is no option like this. But the studies in ateneo is faster. You have to finish everything by third year and the whole of senior year is bar review.

You will be happy to know that the norm right now are the people who aren't members of frats. Now, there are several systems set in place by the school and the student countil to make it possible to survive and even excel without the help of frats.

Reviewers, sample exams, transcripts are all over the school, you just have to avail of them in the notes bank or the library. Upperclassmen are helpful when you ask for tips on teachers, classes, etc. Also, the law school community is very small, so everyone sort of "knows" everyone else, so everyone is helpful and approachable.

Since the population is very small, teachers know who are the frat members, and during deliberations (where teachers decide on whether to retain the "nanganganib" students or not) being a member of a frat could be taken against you.

About studying part time, I know several people who dropped certain subjects so they can finish law in 5 years. But the downside on dropping is, Ateneo asks you to pay for full tuition during enrollment, whether or not you plan to drop. Also, you can't get into the dean's list when you drop. Why don't you try it out for a while? I have several classmates who work full time and study full time. It's difficult, but it's quite manageable.

    hi,

I'm a TNT in the oRSEM, but I'll be in section C. Be sure to go so you can get your cases for Intro to Law.

Those who are incoming freshmen in Ateneo Law will be happy to know that our school is the topnotcher in terms of passing rate. 90% of the Ateneans who took the bar passed, 85% of the Bedans who took the bar passed, 70% of the UP students who took the bar passed. Sayang Ateneo de Davao, they were number 3 last year, number 4 na lang this year.

    Hi law students
