now... what are you primarily trying to achieve??
My goals are basically to lose fat, gain lean muscle and build strength. I've been doing mostly bodyweight exercises like push-ups, squats and lunges and would like to progress to additional resistance training. Kettlebells seem to be a promising step up. I eventually intend to start actual strength training with barbells though.

^What are you current stats now??

That will help you decide what program to choose

Before starting any program with a kettlebell make sure you got the basics right. Many people jump way to fast into following programs without actualy knowing how to properly hold a kettlebell. It takes a wee bit of practice to get it right . So guys please, Master your basics first. Better one good rep, then ten incorrect.

Are there any RKC seminars in the Makati area?

^The Phil Kettlebell club has a different affiliation... I'm not sure if we have RKCs in the country

    True.

I thought I was getting better at it because I was able to do most exercises with heavier bells (e.g. 24Kg and 32Kg), but I later realized that I made a big mistake since I was not able to perform the exercises properly and I can't even finish a 30 minute routine with a 16Kg bell. So I went back to basics and trying to perfect my swings and my one arm swings. I even bought pairs of KBs, only to find out that the starter set (16, 24 and 32) I had was enough to last me for months. Working with doubles will only come when I am able to complete 30 minute routines with a 32Kg bell.

I bought my first kettlebell from a sports shop in Park Square 1. Good gawd, this thing really does work your entire body. And they're right it is fun. I hope the PKC hosts a training seminar here in Makati soon.

We are going to hold an Intro session in Magallanes Village very soon. Just ironing out some details. We will let you know once everything is good to go. We are also having an another Intro Session at the Fort exclusively for women. For details, please check out the Philippine Kettlebell Club's Facebook fan page. Thanks!!!

And yeah, it works the entire body. Less time working out, but great results.

^ working out the body is an understatement...

    hahaha! My sentiments exactly.

Indeed! You have to feel it to believe it. I encourage all to try it out and explore what I was made for’ Lifting it of the ground and over your head as many time as possible and make it look easy)
If you practice it correctly below are some more of the benefits you’ll get out of it shortly after

Your brain will learn again about proper force generation, reduction, momentum and gravity. Which in turn will greatly improve your athletic/functional potential while reducing the risk of injury.

And you get strong like a bear in a sheap’s fur ( not sure if I made that up )

On a "rush day" I just do 100 - 2 arm swing and 50 snatch and jerk.
    I hate Turkish getups tho.

In the case of my wife who does, Taebo and Yoga, KB built up her upperbody strength over time. A month ago, she couldn't do a proper push-up, nowadays, she uses the push-up bars to do push ups.

Those will give you a good workout for sure Turkish getups do have their place thou ( not that i like when i have to do them)

Kettlebells will first of all greatly improve hip mobility. Which in turn will give you a much needed foundation to build strength upon. A body is only as strong as it's weakest link. Kettlebell have tendency to root out those weak links and turn them into steel

I have a love-hate relationship with turkish getups...

and yes, hip mobility definitely improves with kettlebells...

I'm trying to work on the proper form for the kettlebell swing by doing sumo deadlifts and the towel swing (around 5 sets of 10 reps each). My question is, like in regular weight training, should I take a rest day in between kettlbell training? Or is it ok to do it everyday?

^ what does your common sense dictate??

an RKC said it clearly... just because its a kettlebell, doesnt mean its an exception to the rule... its a tool, but safety always comes first...

Rest in between. 3 times a week of 20-35 minutes work is good enough.

Failed to get a copy of the Manila Bulletin yesterday. Good thing Manila Bulletin has a website. Article number 5 was published yesterday. This was on the recently concluded Adidas King of the Road. Funny thing is I had the audacity to mention KETTLEBELLS again in this particular article, right after I wrote a full article about KBs and the PKC which was published earlier this month. KBs rule!!! Below is the link for my article

It will depend on the intensity of the work out. The hard style of kettlebell lifting is more tasking on the body. While the fluid style focuses on performing the lifts while Breathing deep, slow, and along with the body's movement, putting WAY less stress on the body as a whole.

Periodization is a big factor indeed in an athlete's full training spectrum. But for most of us peeps who just wanna feel good while breaking into a sweat. A light kettlebell training, properly paced would do more good then none Even on a daily basis. Remember. Just holding kettlebells in your hands while going for a walk does wonders for the posture! And if it does wonders then way not everyday if you feel like. Kettlebells are not just about full blast high intensity work outs. There is just so much more to it!!!
