based on the story, it seem to be wrought iron. a thin w.i. square bar is malleable and can be bent. normally, grilles are made out of 12X12mm to 20mmX20mm square bars. i heard of a story that a robber used a 2X2 lumber to widen the space between of the grilles by applying weight on one side. the spot welds also gave way.

Pwede naman lagyan ng hinges at lock yan lalo na kung fire escape sa mga upper floors. Security grills like that usually sa ground floor lang. Kung lahat lalagyan dapat may provision na pwedeng buksan lalo na sa second floor.

That's what I did. I installed grills in my upper bedrooms' steel casement windows but retained the safety of the fire exits. All locks have the same combination. And all family members know the combination.

Many of those who changed the windows to sliding ones and installed grills have removed the safety feature of the fire exits.

if bullet proof glass is out of the question, why not laminated security glass?

both options does not use grills and are already being used in banks, fasrfood restaurants and malls in the Philippines.

May alarm and monitoring system naman mga yan. They use laminate as a safety glass in case mabasag they will not fall sa customers as shards of sharp glasses. If you want safety from being shot at a distance then bullet proof glass is for you. Pero kung breaking and entering the best thing you can do is to delay the entry. You can't prevent any thief from entering your house and the best thing you can do is to make it difficult and time consuming. Kaya ang pinakamagandang security measure mo is to be one with the community. We all must look after one another. Ke kapitbahay man yan o yung mga roving na tanod o guards yan ang pinaka magandang security system. Kung mag high perimeter walls ka ok yan as long as may in house security guard ka. Kung wala at mataas ang pader mo kinakatay na buong pamilya mo sa loob walang makakaalam sa sa labas at kapitbahay mo.

laminated safety glass is not laminated security glass. both differs with the type of film. and the latter would stop any break-ins.

okay, just going with the question of the thread. but personaly, if one has to open one's windows then a laminated security glass is utterly useless as a security feature.

A film will make it unbreakable?

To a thief a laminated security glass is useless even when it's closed. It's only safe to vandals.

but again, if you have an open window the security laminate is utterly useless.

One possible alternative is to install an alarm system that fires a infrared beam across the window when activated. If someone breaks in, the moment the beam is broken the alarm goes off. Since the burglar is still outside I would think and hope that his instinct would be to run away rather than push through with the break in.

    Guard Dog

In addition to other security measures mentioned I would rather have a mean dog like Belgian Malinois. You can keep this dog outside or inside your house.
