we must harness our railways' capabilities to the limit. we can put passengers and cargo on our trains. by doing so, we will not only somewhat lessen the traffic on our clogged roads but we can spur development in areas where our railway system passes.
dual track to bicol - that's another of my dream for PNR. sana nga.

yung dual track ng PNR is only up to bicutan.

again, main concern there is cost. even the malaysia-singapore line is not yet dual track (though may concrete plans na). thailand's major routes are also single track. and they have far more advanced rail systems and di hamak na mas mayaman kesa satin.

not just tourism, pati overall trade and commerce na din.

it's a pain to navigate the national highway to bicol because of traffic and poor road conditions.

i long for the day when people will return to making PNR the primary choice of travel going to and from manila. and for the day when freight from manila to sorsogon (for the jump off point to visayas roro) is handled mostly by rail.

isa pa, ginagastusan na din naman natin ito, bakit hindi pa natin lubus-lubusin? we are spending huge amounts of money on this so i am thinking that we should have prepared for the possibility of getting rights-of-way as we convert the entire Southrail line to Standard gauge from the old Cape gauge.

palace: thanks for the information. all the while, i was thinking that PNR Southrail was dual track until Alabang until you said that it was only dual track up to Bicutan and from Bicutan all the way to Bicol, it was already single track.

the good thing about dual track systems is that both tracks can be used at the same time without any form of interruption. a northbound train can use one track while the southbound one can use the other one. however, just like what you said, going dual track would certainly entail much cost, especially acquiring private property and rights-of-way.

    ----------

AlanNathaniel: i hope there are provisions on the Southrail project for the transition from Cape gauge to Standard gauge. we should all look forward to the time that the entire Philippine railway system will be entirely on Standard gauge or, if the status quo prevails (Northrail on Standard gauge, Southrail on Cape gauge), a dual gauge system.

i am also looking forward to the time when the PNR will make the transition from using diesel multiple units (DMUs) to electric multiple units (EMUs).

San Pedro (Carmona), Laguna has provisions for standard gauge track. But I don't know if the work has been completed upgrading from Narrow track. But the news outlets of the PNR say the station in Naga, Camarines Sur, is being upgraded to standard gauge, with PNR lines to be lengthened from Albay to Sorsogon. But there is still an end-of-line arker in Albay.

So, if the upgrade to standard gauge tracks are complete, yes, you can ride the new PNR.

if you happen to drive by bicutan exit of slex, and when you cross the PNR level crossing there, going to taguig, you will actually see where the dual tracks merge to one, as the track head down to sucat/alabang.

Those reports are misleading (or are you referring to double tracking?). The construction in Naga City is only for the renovation of the station (it's almost complete when i drove by the other weekend). There's no on going construction for gauge conversion anywhere on the main line south. There's indeed a plan to extend from Albay to Sorsogon para may connection sa RORO to Samar, along with plans to convert the whole line to standard gauge.

@info118 : according to happosai, the new DMUs will only be used up to alabang. but i believe there will also be a revival of the commuter service up to calamba, but using the old JR stock coaches. sakay ka na lang from san pedro to alabang on the old coach.

correct. basta may maayos na signalling system, there should be no problem. it depends on the frequency of traffic.

yung mga long range trains naman is only a handful. nung 2006, before the close of the bicol operation, there was only 1 mnl-bicol trip each day so bale 2 trains lang babantayan mo ng salubungan. mas maganda nung 70s-80s where at times there are more than a dozen train sets plying the south line per day.

dual tracking will come when traffic returns to PNR.

    Gooooooo for PNR to NORTH......

yeah, looks like old school pa din ang fare and ticketing system ng PNR. the renovated stations doesn't have provisions for turnstiles. malamang konduktor pa din.

Who is saying that the President is doing nothing?

We can see tangible infrastructures and recent innovations in rail transit system. This gives an alternative but cheap and decent mode of transportation for mass commuters. This instance suggests that the President deserves not to be antagonized but to see through her achievements becoming to be realized by us.
