anyone who could recommend a good 21" - 22" lcd tv? i just want it for my room.
also capable na ba sila ng full hd? not sure kasi since i'm seeing only 720p.
I'd like to thank all who've tried to helped out on the LG LH70 I was looking for a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, let me narrate what happened:
I passed by a couple more Abenson's branches to check for the LG LH70 in 32", but alas, stil no luck. However, a Salesperson suggested to me that the best LCD TVs, are those with "Motion Adjustment System" of some sort, and started referring me to the Sony models.
I was intrigued, because for one I haven't owned a Sony TV set in a long while, primarily because they were just too damn expensive. One model, though, the W-Series model KLV-32W550A they were selling for a very good bargain. The sticker price was at P47.9k, but the Salesperson told me that they could bring the price down to P39k if I pay in cash, or straight charge by credit card.
The discounted price was still above the budget I set for the new LCD TV, but after looking at the demos, I finally decided to give it a try. The unit had, after all, the qualities I was looking for: It was in Full HD, 32", and had a 120 Hertz screen refresh rate. And its a Sony, a good, established brand name.
After a couple of weeks playing with it, the big question I guess people will ask is, was the higher price, and better specs of the unit really worth it, compared to the Nextbase Devant DP800 I was supposedly "upgrading" from?
The answer is a resounding YES ... but also a resounding NO.
'YES - Digital Signal Processing, and the Motionflow System'
The answer is YES, when it comes to processing DIGITAL SIGNALS, meaning Digital TV (if ever it will be finally become popular here in the country), DVD HDMI inputs, or BD HDMI inputs.
It took awhile to tinker around with unit's settings, because these Sony models seem to have more options in that area compared to my Devant. But I did come up with settings that I was finally satisfied with. So I got the movie "2012" from Odyssey, put it on the Nextbase DVD player, connected the player by HDMI to the TV, and sat back and watched.
And I would have to say that the movie confirmed that the money was, indeed, very well spent.
Sony claims that the Bravia 3 engine results in sharper images and more realistic, vibrant colors, but I think the "Motionflow System" was really the biggest contributor in terms of having a great visual experience with this set.
From what I understand, what happens is that when the objects on the screen move, they tend to blur around a bit. Now, what the Motionflow system does, is basically keep the objects from blurring as they move about, maintaining a consistently crisp, sharp image.
Its kinda hard to describe in words, but the effect is like looking at something near in real life, where the object maintains a sharp picture even when they are moving about.
I urge everyone to try it out for themselves: Go to any LCD TV showroom, look for models with some sort of "Motion Compensation System" (other brands seem to be coming up with it), and then use an action-packed movie like "2012" to see how the pictures are able to maintain their clarity even when moving about.
Take note that my unit only has a 100Hz Motionflow System. Other higher end Sony models have up to 240 Hz systems (and they are also more hideously expensive), more than twice that of mine. This would probably mean that those higher end models can maintain the crispness of the images moving at an even faster rate.
Now, its not that the Devant's picture quality in terms of digital signals is bad. It is in fact, very good. Its just that the Sony's with Motionflow systems are just outstanding.
'NO - Analog Signal Processing'
This is my main complaint about the Sony unit. When it comes to processing of analog signals, like Cable TVs, the roles are reversed between the two brands: The Devant was superior.
I use a boosted Cable TV signal, and when watching the HBO Channel on my Devant, the picture quality was very clear, with the colors vibrant and true. Not so with the Sony. The pictures are definitely not as sharp, and the colors kind of flat and dull.
Its a big letdown, since we tend to watch more TV shows than DVDs.
'Final Thoughts'
Despite the letdown I experienced with watching Cable TV on the Sony, the fact that the DVD signals were fantastic makes the unit worth it, OVERALL.
Take note that I'm only using DVDs on the unit (with upscaling), its not yet Blu-ray, but the pictures are already to die for.
However, Nextbase as a brand, and other Nextbase owners out there should be proud of their units also. Here is a brand that is about 40% less expensive, but already superior to the more expensive brand in some aspects. This, I feel, shows that the quality of the models are definitely world-class also. You also certainly get your money's worth on those Devants.
I feel Sony is a bit too advanced, perhaps, neglecting the unit's analog signal processing in favor of superior digital signal processing. That will work for first world countries like Japan, where they have had Digital TV for quite awhile now, but not so much with third-world countries like ours, where analog TV signals still rule.
Don't look now, but I just took a peak at the nearest appliance store, and it seems that the LG LH70 in 32" is again now available. Same price, at P29k.
i hear this is the one recommended for PS3. gotta get me one of those soon.
bought my mom a sony bravia 32" BX300
I own 40w550a and it works superb especially playing PS3 and watching bluray movies. I could not ask for more. When I tried playing pacquiao fights (HD quality), you can see the beauty of the motionflow, its like you are watching in the ringside.
Tip: dont use the motionflow when you are watching movies.
Guys, i just visited anzon and naka promo yung Sharp LCD TV nila 32" Full HD then kasama na yung HDMI player and entertainment system it only cost 20,000. actually madami nakapromo now almmost below 30k ang mga LCD TV like LG, Sharp, Samsung, Sony kaso maganda promo ng sharp kasi kasama na HD player. which might cost 10k-15k any feedback an comment? 1st HD TV ko ito if ever.
mga peeps masaya ba kayo sa built in speakers ng LCD ninyo? iyong nabili kasi namin 2 years ago na Panasonic TX32LX80M na model hindi eh. hehehe.
maganda ang picture quality pero pagdating sa sounds eh laging kailangan mong mag adjust ng volume at sound scheme (music, news and cinema) para marinig mong mabuti iyong pinapanuod mo. everytime na manunuod ka laging adjust, whether DVD movie, channel ng TV etc..
Ganun ba talaga ang LCD TV built in speakers or panget lang talaga iyong akin? May maganda bang LCD TV na maganda ang picture quality and built in sounds? Naalala ko dati bilib na bilib ako sa sounds ng Sansui CRT TV pati na rin ang picture quality nito.
If you can afford a better HT system and can blast it all the way to the sound level that you want then go for it. If you can't afford a better HT system then go for an HTiB.
