    Jeff Van Gundy appreciation thread

One of my vivid memories of JVG during his coaching career was him being on the receiving end of Marcus Camby's right hook during a Knicks-Spurs game. Another one was during that unforgettable Larry Johnson vs. Alonzo Mourning rumble where JVG held onto Zo's leg.

    Fast forward
I think he's the best analyst bar-none in the NBA right now whether from TNT, ABC or ESPN. His excellent knowledge of the game is a cut above the rest and not to mention the comic relief he provides, together with Mark Jackson, in the abc/espn games. Good thing ABC decided to do away with Hubie Brown's boring commentating.

I hope he stays on the broadcast panel. Don't return to coaching pls.?

The title speaks for itself. Share the memorable lines of JVG as an analyst.

    on top of my head:
    1) on Brian Scalabrine's headband
"He looks like Will Farrell on that semipro movie."

    2) on Ray Allen's elbow to Varejao's balls
"Wow he didn't even bend Varejao over with that. I'm impressed by Varejao."

    3) on the foul called earlier which many thought was against Gasol (saw Jack Nicholson screaming his lungs out!)
"It's amazing how many players complain and most of them are dead wrong. The percentage is quite high."

    4) on Kobe stepping on the sideline before hitting a tough three-pointer
"That's probably the best turnover I've even seen. He steps on the line, the ref blows the whistle, squares himself up for the shot, and hits that incredible three."

    5) on his own NBA all-star rules
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdsAvUkAOiI

    6) on haircut pricing ethics
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wCh7...eature=related

    7) on Tex Winters
"He's 80 yrs. old and he looks better than I do at 46."

on Wally's block against Boston's Bill Walker

I find this comment of him funnier than the Cavs bench's reaction.

Mike Breen - "He has 159 career blocks before that block."
"I want a list of that 159 and if anybody's on it more than once, he should be banned from the NBA."

Jeff Van Gundy is the best in your face commentator in the NBA. There is rarely a game that he doesn't own or ridicule Mark Jackson.

on his first game as rockets head coach (if im not mistaken van gundy and fratello were considered for the job)... he went to the commentators' table, accepted marv albert's greeting and shook his hand but deliberately snubbed mike fratello's congrats greeting... the reaction on the czar's face was classic and that scene was hillarious.

The thing with JVG is that he combines knowledge of the game with his no nonsense commentary. And his wit is amazing. Him, Mark Jackson and Mike Breen are the best broadcast team by a mile covering the NBA these days.

I agree. Surprisingly this trio now beats the TNT in-game commentary box this year.

TNT though still has an edge in their in-studio show with Inside the NBA.

Nagcomment si JVG tungkol kay Pakyaw after kinompare ni Jax yung Lakers sa laban ni Pacquiao at Oca.

Sabi kamo parang ganito: "I dont watch boxing these days but that Packweyo is good" LOL

Which reminds me of JVG's remark in Game 5 of the Finals.

After Dwight Howard made a quick, pretty move in the post which resulted in a Gasol foul, JVG liked the move and metioned that Howard needs to that more frequently and that D-12 should get rid of the ball "a count quicker". He then metioned how he described "a count quicker" by snapping his fingers to which Mark Jackson replied "I was the only one who saw it".

JVG then said: "Hey, we should have a camera on the broadcasters' table too. We are also eye candy.."
