Hehe... but isn't US$175 only a fraction of a CFA's annual salary of US$250,000?Originally Posted by Hulk

BTW, I just read the posts you made previously in the forex forum. Really quite informative. Does AIMR-Manila still conduct the group review for CFA candidates? (because if you guys do.. I would like to attend those group reviews)![]()
Hi guys!
The Association of Investment Professionals Manila (AIPM), the local affiliate of the CFA Institute, is offering ten (10) scholarships for the upcoming June 2006 CFA exams. If you're interested in applying, please post by typing your email address. I would then forward you the scholarship flyer and application form. Deadline for applications is September 19, 2005.

any updates/insights from those pexers who previously posted here and took the cfa exams already? anyone who's planning to take the exams soon?
Anong insight ang gusto mo? There's really no secret to passing it, all you have to do is study, study... study... and answer a ton of sample exams. You guys are lucky, multiple choice na ang Level 2 and 1/2 ng Level 3, time ko essay lahat. Masakit sa kamay magsulat kapag nasanay ka sa keyboard!

well... the info you gave was nice to hear.Originally Posted by Hulk
pero im just a fresh grad so maybe ill take it next year pa. i have plans of taking the cfa exams coz i think it will help my career in Investment Banking (i'll be working under corporate finance). nonetheless, i saw in some posts that it may not be as helpful for corfin people, unlike in equity research wherein being a cfa is really a big thing. im thinking maybe getting an mba will be better. i'm not sure kasi if i can handle taking an mba while taking the cfa exams!
In AIM, students mastering in Finance are expected to pass at least Level 1 to get their major in Finance title. So pinagsasabay ng mga students nila yung Masters tsaka CFA program, since conducive yung curriculum design nila sa CFA program.
Ako I got my mba four years after I've acquired my CFA charter. I took CFA first for the technical knowledge for my work ( I work in an investment house), then I got my mba for general mangement skills. My greatest contribution to my mba class was my finance skills earned from my experience and the CFA program.
Para sa akin a CFA degree helps a lot sa CorFin but as you progress up the ladder, it's your pulse for the appetite of the market and your deal-making skills that becomes more valuable. Kaya ako I'm heavily reading Behavioral Finance material to get into the mind of the issuer and investor. Pero since fresh grad ka, building your functional and technical skills should be your primary objective in the near-term.

wow! guys how much again the entire cost in taking a CFA ?
Bumping this up. Anyone taking the CFA exams this coming december 2006? or maybe the one next june 2007?
June 2007 target date ko.

ako rin gusto ko sana sa 2007, bats, aral lang katapat niyan palagay ko talaga.
Any scholarships being offered for next year's exam?
bump lang po!
Siguro sometime next year I might attempt to get a CFA certification? Can anyone provide me their experiences in obtaining one? I dont have a post-graduate degree only an undergraduate degree in Business Management at DLSU. Do I need post-graduate degree? How about work experience?
Many thanks! Please help an aspiring CFA like me![]()

malapit na yung deadline for the early registration for the June 2007 exams
To answer some of your questions:
There are 3 types of scholarship offered:
1. Scholarship from a CFA charterholder professor (for Level 1 candidates only)
You can apply for a scholarship from a professor (teaching at least 6 units) na CFA Charterholder. Each professor can grant up to 5 scholarships. Some of the profs who can grant this (depending kung naka-worl leave sila) are: Prof. Bustos - AIM; Mark Bautista - DLSU and Raymond Abara - UP.
2. Society Scholarship (all Levels)
Our local society, CFA Philippines grants 10 scholarships annually. I used to head the committee that gives the scholarships out. The things we look at is work experience, educational background, financial need and the ability to promote the program (regulatory employees enjoy an advantage). I believe the process has already started.
3. Professor scholarship (all Levels)
If you a re a finance teacher, teaching at least 6 units, you can apply directly sa CFA Institute for a scholarship.
Tips:
You have to devote a lot of time studying and forego social activities. The reason a lot of people fail, kasi hindi nila sineseryoso yung program. READ!!! Mahirap talaga siya, especially the higher levels. Cumulative yung knowledge, so kung pasang awa ka sa Level 1, malabo kang pumasa sa Level 2.
Your college course doesn't matter. Meron kaming charterholder na European Languages ang undergrad course. Meron din kaming engineer. MBA isn't a requirement. I got my CFA charter 4 years before I got my MBA. But work experience is a MUST!!! Read the requirements for the awarding of the charter!
Based on our survey earlier this year, the annual median salary for Philippine based charterholders is about P1.25MM-P1.50MM. Of course we cannot separate the exact value of the CFA, and separate it from other drivers like experience and post-grad degrees.
