anyway, I'm happy again that a couple of FEU students had recently given us pride in the academe. Congrats!

MassComm students shine in research tilt
March 30th, 2009 by FEU Advocate

Six Mass Communication (MassCom) students won silver in the 2009 Student Research Grand Prix tilt for presenting their thesis about homosexual discrimination at Albertus Magnus Auditorium, University of Santo Tomas last February 9. The students of Department of Communication (DepComm) were Charisse Rachel Concepcion, Katherine Imson, Lovely Rose Magdayao, Luis Recto, Jorelle Robles and Rove Tan.

Their study, “Mariposa sa Likod ng mga Rehas: Coping Mechanism of Homosexual Inmates”, placed second among other universities nationwide. According to the researchers, homosexual inmates remain unheard because of the absence of responsive help desks. They are limited by self-concept and perception, language and culture that male inmates impelled them to obey.

The research under Prof. Joeven Castro, faculty member of DepComm, earned 83.33 percent following University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman posting 85.67 percent; and University of Santo Tomas (UST) ranked third accumulating 70.83 percent.

The competition, with the theme “Media in Asia: A Tool for Human Rights Education and Monitoring”, was sponsored by Asian Congress for Media Communication (ACMC). It is a Philippine-based international professional organization for media, communication, and language education.

UPD presented the paper entitled, “Of Pills and Bills: An Analysis of Broadsheet Articles on the Reproductive Health Bill”, while UST presented the paper “Bridging Multiple Divides: Forging Strategic Partnerships between the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Media: The Case of Armed Conflict in the ARMM.”

The research papers underwent two screenings: paper content, 60 percent and oral presentation, 40 percent.

Regional finalists were from Bicol University, Albay; St. Paul University-Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, St. Mary’s University-Nueva Vizcaya, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Iloilo and University of Immaculate Concepcion-Davao.

    PRC names FEU-NRMF
    "Top Performing School"

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) declared the Far Eastern University Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation as "the only top performing school," when it announced the results of the Medical Technology Licensure Board Examination of March 2006. Of the 115 out of the 134 FEU-NRMF graduates who took that test, 115 (86%) passed. The national passing rate was 46% for that particular examination.

The PRC also sent a congratulatory message to FEU-NRMF and its recent graduate, Kristian E. Marollano, who placed 8 th on the board exam. FEU-NRMF was also complimented when the Chairman of its Department of Surgery, Dr. Kim Shi Tan, was bestowed the PMA Presidential Award in Modern Medicine in the field of Laparoscopy, for being pioneer in this specialty procedure.

Another honor for FEU-NRMF was the acceptance and presentation at the European Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases in Basel, Switzerland, on May 3-5, 2006, of the research paper of Mrs. Magdalena Natividad, RMT, MSPH, Director of the FEU-NRMF School of Medical Technology. This was also published in the May 28, 2006 issue of the Manila Bulletin.

The FEU-NRMF Medical Center has 300 beds, 99 of which are for the charity service.

FEU, at least in the past years, has always been consistent in producing TOSP finalists/ awardees:

2009: Akram (AB), Almoite (Education), Sibug (FEU-EAC Computer Science)
    2008: Uminga (AB), Ramoso (Accountancy)
    2007: Mazo (Nursing)
    2006: Fabros (Nursing)
2005: Mora (Chemistry), Sta. Ana (Nursing)
    2001: Lorenzo (Biology)

I commend Dr. Adelaida Fronda for her excellent work at the Office of Student Affairs.

Wow, congrats sa FEU TOSP finalists, taon taon pala halos meron tayo. Sana magtuloy tuloy to inspire the future sutedents of FEU.

Credits must go to the Office of Student Affairs headed by Dr. Fronda with the able backup of Dr. Marcon Espino. FEU, at least in Manila, has very good student development and leadership programs. Talk about holistic molding.

I don't know exactly their basis of creating a subforum for a certain school. Would it be the number of requests they received? Apparently, they don't have the mechanism to count which among the pexers come from which school.

Exactly, that's primarily the reason why I am not too pushy for us to have a subforum here at PEX. Because afterall, we have a place to call our own online. And that's something not every school has.
