    Hi Ibex637,

Find inspiration from Leomar Rita Cabarles , 2nd placer in the May 2009 CPA board exam. Like you he came from an "unknown" provincial school. He just graduated this April & took the board this May. BTW, he took an undergrad review at PRTC.

Find inspiration from Reinier Jeffrey Epino Abdon of Phil. Christian University, 6th placer in the same board exam. He reviewed at CTDI-Makati as part of their school's pre-requisite for graduation & at the same time found time to review at CPAR.

Find inspiration from Larianne Kristine Corciega Betancor of Technological Institute of the Phils. - Mla, another 6th placer. He made up for his "weak" foundation by taking multiple reviews, the last one at CPAR where he placed 1st in the final preboard.

These new CPAs came from not so well-known schools, but with long & rigorous preparation while still in college, landed in the top 10 of the May 2009 CPA Board Exam.

There are others in the Top 10 or Top 20 from other batches who came from not so well-known schools. They excelled because they chose to & they put their hearts & minds into their studies. You too can do it. It's a matter of will & determination.

    Sir Larry!

Bakit naman po walang, "find inspiration in Hilario Tan, graduated from a so-so school, stopped schooling and was a bummer for... etc" Peace po sir!

Grabe yun ah, as in grabe naman yun, weekend sabay weekdays? Cool!

Do a lesson plan for each topic/chapter - one at a time. Huwag biglain para di malula. At the end of the sem before your finals, compile mo siya at i-book bind. Use if for review. You will feel proud of what you have accomplished.

I require my students to compile my handouts. They were so proud of their own "MAS textbook" and some used them as last minute review materials before the board. Iba kasi ang pinaghirapan

Very true, my DLSU CPAR reviewees used to bring those bound lecture notes of Anson to my class, I resolved to befriend Anson and get a soft copy of those lecture notes. Maganda talaga, kaso ayaw ibenta ni Anson. Kaya naisip ko ako na lang magbebenta for him.

hahaha, you spilled the beans on me. Let me complete the story, I stopped schooling for two years after High School. Wala lang, wala lang direction ang buhay ko, after high school, I enrolled at UST Commerce, after a month of schooling, I got sick, stress siguro sa adjustment period, after recuperating, I didn't go back to UST. I didn't know what to do, kaya for two years, I stopped schooling, tumutulong lang sa small grocery ng parents ko, taga tinda at taga sukli. Felt depressed, felt empty. Tried to find myself, when I realized I lost precious time, I went back to a less stressful environment, I found myself enrolling at CKSC's college department, akala ko kasi, pumasok ka lang sa class, sure pass ka na. Puro kickout ng good schools naroon, or those na di nakapasa sa good schools mga enrollees doon. Wala pang 150 and college student population. When I was in 2nd year, a recent grad told me maraming di naituro sa college namin, nag panic ako, got hold of my Valix book, hanggang Fixed Assets lang natapos ng professor namin sa financial accounting. I ended up using my entire summer after 2nd year, reading Valix book from cover to cover, preparing my notes, answering review materials of my younger sister who took the CPA Board exam two years ahead of me. Sariling kayod, self-learning. Cost Accounting & Advanced Accounting lang ang medyo matino ang turo sa school, all the rest sariling kayod na.

Buti na lang sa PRTC ako nag review, umaapaw sa review materials, Monday to Saturdays ang review classes, 5 hours a day. Made advance preparation for class, for things I don't fully understand, I repeated the problem solving after class.

I asked Danny Principe, if I can sit-in in his evening class, pumayag naman siya, ako yata ang first reviewee sa prtc na nag sit-in sa ibang class, even asked Principe to conduct a special class for me & some of my classmates.

One month before the board exam, gusto ko ng umatras, sinabi ko kay Principe, sabi niya sa akin, take the exam, kaya mo yan, I believe in you. I took his word, I believed his word. I took the exam.

I studied hard as if everything depended on my efforts, and I prayed hard as if everything depended on God's Grace. Humingi ako ng tulong sa isang santa - St. Claire of Assissi, nagpunta ako sa monasteryo niya sa Katipunan, malapit sa PSBA QC, sa old location nito, tapat ng St. Bridget School, nag-alay ako ng itlog, sumulat ng petition letter (hiniling ko na pumasok ako sa top 10, preferably top 3, ang kapal ko ), humalik sa relic niya, nanikluhod, sinabi ko sa kanya ang nasa sa puso ko, pero pinaalala ko sa kanya at kay Lord, sinasabi ko lang naman ang gusto ko, pero more than what I desired, I wanted to do His (God's) Will, pero if only He will Will it, I will surely make it. Kaya ayun, binigay niya wish ko. Simple lang ang dasal ko, I did my best, but I know my best is not enough, but if only He will help me by inspiring the examiners to choose only the questions that I know, if He will grant me the grace of a clear mind during the exam, then I will surely make it. And I did. I placed 3rd, next only to Douglas Mallillin of SLU- Baguio, now a CPA-Lawyer, and Arnel Atienza of UST. Nancy Valiente of UP-Diliman was 4th. A HS valedictorian of CKSC who is also a UP magna grad was 7th placer. I had my vindication. Wala akong honors sa HS, but I did better than our school's valedictorian.

I was able to use my "magna" honors, my fast promotion at SGV, to get an MBA scholarship at AIM.

Fast forward, I went back to serve my alma mater as dean of its college of commerce & accountancy, at the same time, I was invited by Atty Valix to teach at CPAR, it was my first time to teach in a huge class of 200 reviewees, di ko alam puro pala taga UP, Silliman & LaSalle Bacolod ang mga reviewees ko, did badly during my first term as a reviewer, learned from my mistakes, improved my craft, and presto, I was invited to teach in my other alma mater - AIM.

Now that I can no longer teach sa review circuit, due to my other interests, like consulting & making lots of money, hehehe, reaching out to you guys thru PEX is my way of helping CPA wannabees.

    Mabuhay kayong lahat.

Yes, pinagsabay ni Renier ang review sa CTDI-Makati at CPAR, kasi required sila ng PCU to review during their last sem in college sa CTDI-Makati. If only I accepted CTDI's invite to teach there, baka naging reviewee ko rin siya. Among the topnotchers, si Leomar lang kilala ko, very humble & unassuming, he sits at the back of the room besides his side-kick friend, inseparable sila ng classmate niyang magaling din.

    Hi Meechshane,

The MAS book we are currently using in DLSU is Managerial accounting by Ronald Hilton. We also used Garrison before.

Just curious, which school are you enrolled in?

    Hi Sir Anson!

I'm currently enrolled at St. Paul University Manila.

I've been heard about Garrison and Noreen and they said na ok po na gamitin yung book nila as reference for MAS.

I'm just curious kung yung MAS po is exactly the same as Managerial Accounting? or it has mixed with some other Economics topics?

Hilton's book has more CMA-adopted problems than Garrison, pero long problems/cases sa Garrison favorite kopyahin for MAS Board Exam.

Your generous consideration on this matter will be highly appreciated..

Thank you for making this thread, I can finally share my feelings about the course.

Incoming second year student palang po ako and for me, hindi talaga madali ang Accountancy. It needs your maximum time, focus, energy and priority. Nakakakaba talaga.

I really like this course, I can't imagine myself taking up any other. Some of my batchmates gave up already and some failed.. Hah, nakakakaba talaga!

It is okay if for practice. But sa exams, you might want to write down solutions for reference so you can recheck your answers

Again if it works for you...then it is good.

For financial management, I recommend Gitman or Brigham especially if you dont have a good foundation because their approach is easier to understand.
